- Desperate Afghans clung to the side of a moving US military plane leaving Kabul airport on Monday, with at least three people apparently falling to their deaths from the undercarriage immediately after takeoff. Video footage shows hundreds of people running alongside the plane as it moves along the runway of Kabul international airport. A number of people hang on to the side of the C-17A aircraft, just below the wing. Others run alongside waving and shouting.

Absolutely dreadful that people have been driven to this level of desperation to escape their own country due to the Taliban takeover... Can you imagine how desperate you must be to think that trying to cling on to the outside of a jet for the full duration of a flight, at full speed, is better than the treatment you'd get by going home?

If it's inflatable why aren't the panels flexing like a bouncy castle around where people have climbed on the sides? What's stopping it from floating away? How do explain all the videos of it taking off? Why do the markings match up to a registered military plane? Moreover what would be the point of faking this?

Yes, there is a video of the plane taking off, also the windows reflect like that, I've seen several C-17's and that's how they look.

Americans like my Uncle dedicated and sacrificed their lives trying to maintain order in Afghanistan. At least America tried to prevent this. Afghanistan's own leaders and people failed themselves, greed and corruption was (and still is) so widespread, it's like spitting on a housefire to put it out- useless unless your neighbors come with hoses to help. In this case, the neighbors are the Afghani leaders, police, military, lawmakers and citizens, and America is the lone man spitting on the house, hoping it doesn't explode.

Afghanistan has become this generation's Vietnam in that we've been there for so long that we don't get why we're there and had so many die on both sides most of us don't support it anymore but there's no simple way to end it.
It isn't like Vietnam AT ALL. There has been a power struggle between the Talibans and the Afghan state, and the presence of US troops, justified or not, provided some stability. The US troops still there are not involved in any combat anymore, they are basically doing what they can to help the last Americans still there to leave peacefully. So.. Literally nothing to do with Vietnam

Because first its running at Idle and second is perhaps the crew are using the outer engines to taxi... not uncommon for aircraft to taxi just using one or two engines I work on the ATRs and we do this all the time

You can see many people clinging onto the landing gear at the end of the video. Those people flew off the plane at a few hundred feet and many were found dead on the rooftops of houses. Very tragic
