Hi from Devon Chris. Cheers for the upload. A fish a cast, that's how to get youngsters hooked!! I worked in the South Cerney area of the cotswolds water parks, had countless pike that size on Mepps, nothing any bigger than 7lb, there must be some lurking there somewhere!!!! Tight lines
That was great. In the US it's all about slamming big bass and I remember really enjoying pan fishing. Looking to learn some techniques after over 30 years of being away from the water. Many thanks for this!
I apply similar techniques using lures in saltwater and have managed to tick off 30 species. I recently caught only my 2nd freshwater species as well, a decent sized Tilapia/Blue Kurper!
whenever i go ultra light… looking forward to a fun day of catching smaller fish… I nearly ALWAYS hook (but not manage to land) something big like a chub or pike…. which makes me wish i’d used stouter tackle!!!
Great vid as always Chris. Had a session down my local canal evening before last using a Kuying Teton 53UL rod & micro baits. Casting to the far bank and retrieving the lure produced very few follows, but jigging directly under the rod tip, tight to my bank, it was a fish a chuck! Crazy & great fun, with nothing above 4ozs. Just goes to show, you don't always have fish distance, sometimes they are under your feet.
I use ArtherisX. Chinese made. Most Malaysian UL anglers used this. I was curious. Bought it . Got hooked and bought 2 more. 4 times cheaper than Buying. It's so light , gonna buy 2 more for giant prawns bottom fishing. Many use 4-6 rods. The giant prawns is an expensive and good to eat creature. We fished in crocodile water but with care !
I enjoyed that....weirdly enough I'd ordered some micro lures and jigheads from AGM prior to this coming up on UA-cam (they're spying on us perhaps). As for the Tipsy Minnows, I've had quite a few Perch on them in the past few weeks.... Fabulous video as always.
Great vid Chris. I have used AGM for some time now and have always done great with the tiny white ballzy’s ! One quick question though what sort of speed do you retrieve? Do you let the lure sink to the bottom first or keep it mid depth?
3 years late but I have to say i recently bought a pack of both the tipsy and allures and the tipsy I’m yet to have a sniff on but I fished with the allure for about an hour and caught 4 tinkers 1 normal and 1 big perch, absolutely incredible, would recommend!

Does it realy pay off fishing UL if there were no perch and trout in the water? I would like to se a video about targeting not-predatorial fish on UL technique
Went lure fishing for the first time ever the other day with my youngest who's 9, we where on the canal fishing for about hour and a half and managed to catch 2 perch! We where both over the moon considering it was our first time!. Set up wise ive followed your advice and got some size 10, 0.75g tungsten micro jigs along with some 1.2 inch crazy fish worms. Ive got a braided line on the reel, then some normal line on the hook length. Rod wise we're using a 6ft telescopic rod and reel that come with it. The rod and really are really cheap, his grandad got it for him just so he could start off. My question is how do we increase our chances of more bites and catches. We do pole fishing on local ponds near us which we know are full of fish, carp etc? The canal we tried is obviously a different matter, there's obviously fish in there but its getting them to bite. I do love the fact that we just took a ruc sac with all our gear in including collapsable net and walked up and down the canal looking for any signs of fish activity, the freedom it gives you is exceptional! It was my lads first perch and he was literally hooked! Keep up the great content!
That rod and reel sound O.K; they won't be as strong as decent carbon fibre or other modern rods, mind. As for the reel, go for 10+ lbs braid if you have snaggy waters; otherwise, 8 - 12 lbs braid might be good enough. Personally, I wouldn't mind trying those light jig heads on slightly larger lures, especially FFS Lures, or the stuff LureBoi sells. As for the bag; I would use a schoolbag of some kind, myself; still plenty of load capacity, but you can carry as much or as little as you like. I HATE shoulder bags, as they have fallen down my arm before when fly fishing, and ruined many casts.
Use 6 lbs thin mono. If pole fishing use thin prawn hooks. If lure casting,I use Johnson Nettles for decades and managed to catch 120 8" baby snakeheads in 2 hours of fun fishing. Green Chartreuse works great. 4 lbs lines cast further but reliability is not so good. I recommend you Artemis X UL rod. Very cheap.Only @2 bucks. I was curious why so many UL anglers use this. It cast easily and further. Since the rod tip ring is small, I fished without leaders. It's so good, I got three. It's Chinese made.Bought in LA azada or Shopee. But you can try on Alibaba...Stream fishing, better use size 500 tiny reels. If lake or ponds size 1500 or 2000 will let fly much further than 500.
I always enjoy your videos , they’re great but honestly …. How many lures do you lose ?🤷♂️😂 today i had a 9lb flouro leader and a jerk bait for perch on a 2-10g rod got smashed at the side by a 6-7lb pike just cut me off on the strike … put a supple métal trace of about 12lb on couldn’t get a bite … loads of perch follows on rubber shads mini stick baits what’s going wrong …. Visibly quite a lot of fish in the area 🤷♂️
Yeah, I got the link from Chris maybe 18 months ago and have spent quite a bit with them. He’s right, they’re the only place that sells the ultralight stuff in great amounts and a good variety.
I've always used 10lb green olive savage gear braid, but struggle too see tying the knots. Do you think a bright yellow 25lb would be visible(it's sounds a lot but about the equivalent of 8lb mono in thickness)
Just use a light anti-kink vane, and below it, any decent brand of 4 - 6 lbs mono, that you know will be as strong as what it says on the pack. My light setup consists of a 3 - 12 gram ultralight rod, 15 lbs braid (due to snags), an anti-kink vane, about 12" of the same strength of mono, and a light wire trace, about 10 - 15 lbs BS.
Really enjoyed the video as UL fishing is an absolute favorite of mine. Quick question, in the beginning of this video you said you were using a 3lb fluorocarbon leader but you showed a 3lb Sufix mono leader? I also use a 3lb fluoro leader with my UL setup.
I didn't use a leader as rod tip ring is so small, it often foul. It I use high quality 6 lbs mono for reliability .4lbz, lost lures to many times although it cast further. I recommend ArtherisX UL.Chinese made, as most fishing gears are these days, it's so good and bloody cheap ! 12 bucks . I cast with BC . And bottom fishing for giant prawns. It's so strong !

Hell, it was so pretty I even bothered to fotosketch the pic into a watercolor painting image just to show you it's beauty! Even the blades are really well made, sure, they're not of Hildebrandt-level exquisiteness but look at the bead's reflection on the colorado blade, definitely well-made! The only "problem" spot it had was a bald spot in the skirt but it was nothing that I couldn't easily fix with a but of tuggin'n'shiftin' with the strands for a couple of seconds, besides that it is pretty minty!
