We are back fishing together after the lockdown and fancy ourselves some Zander fishing
Best place for us being in Birmingham to catch Zander is to try lure fishing on canals
We are using the Abu Garcia Mcperch lures to see if we can catch any predators
Lure fishing for Zander is pretty tough, we've made a couple of videos of them before, I find it really requires a finesse and patience like no other in lure fishing.
If your new to the channel we are Snagged bro, and we love lure fishing, especially pike fishing in urban areas. We are two mates that have know each other for 20+ years going to as many places, having a laugh and catching some fish, come join us.

I thought the law in the uk required all Zander caught to be killed?

Why kill Zander? Here in the Netherlands they are a well respected fish and always returned. The occasional one may be taken for consumption.

@@barrytaylor9307 Because Zander are invasive to UK waters, so there is fear that if the population gets too high that they may outperform our native predators and endanger other fish populations, potentially in the future our nature may be able to accommodate zander as for example, common carp were introduce to the UK and managed to integrate into our wildlife with little to no harm but only time will tell. (Keep in mind, Carp were introduced during the middle ages, so had plenty of time to adapt).

As the law stands, it is illegal to return a zander or any other non-native fish species to the canal network. This is set out in the terms and conditions of our KIFR permits.
You are allowed to take zander, and other fish species classified by DEFRA as non-native, for the pot.

Hey Guys, love your videos ... I'll be heading out on the Coventry Canal, you've ever fished there and can give tips and recommendations?
For me I find the Zander round here are pretty nomadic. But i find overcast days pretty good. Also don't use lures that are too big. Try dropping it down the side where there is any deviation from the bank such as vegetation over hanging/in the water or shady water under bridges etc. That's worked for me Tight lines.

I fish the Ashby which is connected to cov canal. I find the smaller lures, 8cm and less to be most productive.

Clearly different but also similar to what I catch called a Walleye. Even the technique in which you're hooking up is so similar. Never seen a Zander before. Great video.

Did you ever get the Vid done as to why it OK to return Zander ? As a "fishery owner" it looks pretty clear to me that it is a legal requirement to remove Zander from the Canal network, it says so on the the Canal and Rivers Trust web site ?

I hate people keep asking what are you gonna do with it? Good answer, but i would of said : I'm gonna stuff it in my ass, wanna see? She didn't even knew what a zander is! What can you do with a fish anyway. Either put it back or take it for dinner. Some say : you need a fishing license! Like assuming you don't have one. I don't understand, but anyway that's why most want to fish in areas with not many people around. I prefer night time.
I think some people are just curious and we always get a lot of questions on the bank. People are surprised that we’re fishing for Pike, Zander and Perch and re amazed when they see one

You do realise it's illegal to return a zander to the waterway right.. should have killed them.
It's a big grey area, we wouldn't actually get in trouble, it's the person who owns the live fish permit, and no angler has ever been prosecuted, Zander have been in our waterways since the 70's, and have well established themselves in the balance of our ecosystem. After all carp are invasive... Read up on it. Zander have a bad rep from anglers passing down misinformation from generation to generation... Read up on it.

Nice to watch you guys how you treat and handle zander. It is I'd say the no. 1 sport fish in Hungary but I believe in Europe too. We have catfish, asp, pike, chub and perch also but zander is something else. ;) Best times are at dusk and night with top water lures like Rapala ssr. I remember we were catching at night next to a campfire on dead baits in the river. It's surprising that they are living in canals here, as we known they prefers clean waters. Great video anyway, you guys always make me laugh! 😁🤣

Another nice video lads as a newbie I’m just working my way through your back videos but I thought it was illegal to return Zander to the water after catching, as the Zander were illegally introduced into several fisheries and are a none native fish.
It's a bit of a grey area. If anglers return them it's the permit holder ( who owns the stretch) that can be fined.

We tend to stick with flouro on the light gear, if you play the pike right you should get bitten off.
