I have been a musician/guitarist for over 40 years now and I can honestly say that we will never have bands like this again with their level of talent and originality. Anyone who grew up in the 70's and 80's were really blessed with some of the greatest music ever created.
Well said! 1980 Grad here
Absolutely agree. Born in 1978 here!
100%.
I agree with you 100% 1980 grad here also!
I'm too am from the Southside of Chicago and this band sucks. Try Heartsfield and give up on that lame prog rock
Styx, dear children of 2022....this is what music is, what ACTUAL Bands are....not the trash today...they actually sang...they had talent.
Absolutely !!
AMEN!!!
Effin A!
True raw tallent like no other Styx🥇🥇🥇
PERIOD !
Styx is without a doubt one of my all time favorite bands.
I dedicated this on am radio to my middle school crush ages ago before I knew what a true lady was. I did in a child's way love you Nancy but my wife and the family she has given me for years and years is amazing love. Megan you are my lady
Same here
This is what defined rock and roll, so thankful I was a part of it, AMEN!!!
Yes indeed
A time when we , a chosen generation were and still privileged to hear what music Is and should be!!
Thank you to all the bands that Made our days and nights and who we are!!
Rock on!!
A live performance should truly show off the talent, as they are, not be a spectacle. This is truly what separates the musicians of today from their ancestors. While I don't like getting older, I wouldn't trade my era for youth. Growing up without a cell phone, no internet, going to the record store to find music, having an imagination, spontaneity without parents hovering over you, but primarily enjoying life the way every generation of kids did prior to my existence without being a slave to a device is priceless.
Right on agree
Yes
Super underrated band.
Amen to that
I saw Styx in concert in 1977. It was a good time to be alive.
Ditto. My first concert ever. The coliseum was hushed & dark with anticipation. Suddenly, the ivory’s tinkled as the intro to Lady broke the silence, while a spotlight, illuminated a grand piano elevating from beneath the floor. I was blown away.
same here. In Philadelphia
Saw them back then opening for Aerosmith
I remember my first "steady" girlfriend asking me over to come over and sit with her on her neighbors driveway to listen to a local band in her neighborhood's South suburban town next to Chicago to watch a group practice in their garage. That was the first time I watched Dennis DeYoung and the TW4 sing "Lady". The TW4 latter changed their name to STYX.
I still think of my 1st wife eva. She died of cancer 13 yrs ago. She is still my queen
I lost mine 13 yrs ago as well.... I still miss her pretty damn bad....great song....peace and blessings to ya.
So Sorry...
God bless you...and Eva ❤️
I hear you. Mine has been gone for 16 years after we had 20 together.
My Deepest condolences
There is never trash in styx, its pure talent.
A Rock & Roll Masterpiece. The voice of an Angel. There is only one Dennis DeYoung. ❤
This is back when pop stars actually knew how to play instruments and play music. I guarantee over half the top pop and hip hop people today couldn't play an instrument let alone play something as beautiful as this.... But they may take samples from a song like this.
I concur, well said!! 100%! Hip hop is garbage!!
Couldn't have said it better myself. Music has been effectively removed from the music industry.
Fuck man true so true m every song unique
hip hop idiots don't even know what a key of music is
@MACABRE L.A. plus there's a difference between creating real music with real instruments versus a theatrical performance that depends on visual performance and aids in conjuction with the noise they make to create a combined effect thus calling is music. I'm sure real genius musicians like Mozart would would find what we call music nowadays very cacophonous.
I sing this wonderful Melody to my Beautiful Wife.... Everytime l do karaoke on a cruise ship... and it Never gets Old and she always cries... because she is a true... Lady and l am the Worlds... Luckiest Guy !!💖🎸😎
Wow ❤
Yep. Wow❤
This has ranks the highest of all piano rock bands
Absolutely one of the greatest voices of all time, and still listening to this awesome band in 2024!
Me 2
Styx were so talented, yet so underrated. Hope people appreciate how gifted they were now that we can compare through the means of the internet.
Agreed. They should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
@@1minnowsI am surprised they are not.
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a..... Joke.... They took the "Rock"out of it a Long time..Ago..... Just ask...Gene Simmons and Mr Dilly 😎🎸😡
1-28-78?! I gad just turned 18 on the 21st! 45 years later, and im still loving this song!!
Same age as me! My heart still skips a beat 45 years later hearing this song and its harmonies ❤
I'll be 71 the first of July and I am still loving and listening to this song.
No Styx without Dennis!!!!!
Well said !!
Agree, all members important....not the same without him
absolutely right on
Dennis De Young is a bad ass piano player and singer! Wow!
Remember kiddies, bands wrote, played and sang!!!!
They're never going to get it. Music is totally lost on Generation TikTok, they literally don't even know what they're listening to anymore.
Those were the days, awsome memories lots of really good canadian bands
Nowadays you're not required to have any musical talent whatsoever. Just push a button or two on the synthesizer, dress like a prostitute and shake your butt around and suddenly you're a big star. What a joke. Kids these days have no idea. I'm so glad I grew up during the era of the real music, the real rock and roll, the real talent. 🎸👍🥁🎷🎺
And did it well!!
Real bands!! Not the garbage today!!
The general song, the lyrics, the melody the performance.... powerful. Just heard the song again after many years on a very good sound system. The base playing underrated. One of the best base lines ever.
bass playing
My all time favorite Styx song
This and Sweet Madam Blue are My Favorites 💕
I remember it like it was yesterday, my 9 year older brother Julian came home from the record store with this album with what looked to have an old theatre on the face. It was the Paradise album. I was just ten years old then, and when he put that album on, I swear I felt my head had just exploded. After that he got every Styx album he could get his hands on, and through him playing his albums I learned so much about what good music was about. Today I'm 52 yrs old, and I've been a professional musician for more than 30 years, I've toured the world over with many artists, many styles of music, and the music of Styx still resonates hard with me. I'm just thankful I got to grow up in the golden years of American Rock. Funny story is, in 1996 I moved to Chicago, and one of the first places I visited was the old Chicago Theatre on State street, took a bunch of photos, and sent them to my brother, The Best of Times!!!!
The 1st ever power ballad! Saw Dennis DeYoung 2 years ago he still sings great for 75 yeah!
The Carpenters had the first power ballad.
@@lisahertel2415 ah no Carpenters are not rock nope!
Lisa wins. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goodbye_to_Love
@@bertbecker7532 That link says Goodbye to Love was the first power ballad to have a fuzz guitar solo, that's all. (Power ballad is a nebulous term anyway, pinning down the first one is hard.)
I was there that night at Winterland SF, I remember it like it was yesterday. STYX (Elgin Ill) also played at my brother's graduation dance (1972) in St Charles HS. Illinois when they were nobody they skyrocketed to the top!
LOVE THEM!!!
I was there too bro. Bonus points for remembering the opener??
Legs Diamond. 😃
Amazing
Winterland was such a historic venue. That same year, 1978, Bruce Springsteen held a radio simulcast there that was (and still is) legendary
Thats koowl.. they from Chicago suburbs 👍👍
They were TW4 when I saw them in Calumet Park. Think they announced their new name that night or shortly after. Still have my Dusty pink hip hugger pants. Didnt say I can wear them...!
Saw the Kilroy tour in ‘83 before I shipped off to boot camp.
It saddens me to listen to what passes for music now.
I know those who grew up in the mid 60s to the early 90s were blessed with bands that actually had musical talent.
high school. just got my license. and this was always on the radio late at night. great drive and jam tune.
This is the definition of classic rock, incredible harmonies on vocals, Classic Rock at it's finest.
This version is the absolute best to me. The extra warmth from the old recording and how the piano sound here is just of the chart
Dennis piano and vocals are bad ass
You Had to be there! Amazing, you guys will never see this again. The 80's were so great musically. Especially Live.
Um... 1978...
Um... you're both wrong - and I was there with my Panasonic AM radio listening to it in ... 1973!
Such a classic song. Always gets me in a good mood!
Dennis DeYoung is Styx!!!! I refuse to see them without him! But I will see Dennis DeYoung’s band performing Styx music
I absolutely agree. No one like Dennis.
I miss real music like this ! The world sucks now
Mr. Roboto sucks now
I know right! I totally agree with you
@@starpowermike2846sucks ad infinitum..........
DOOMSDAY 🔥
You could not be any more right, everything just lacks everything, ha, so true!! The End
My very first concert was Styx. Detroit state fair, 1981. 5 bucks to get in. They have always had a special place in my heart and was so sad to hear about the split with Dennis.
These were the good years that we will never get back.
Heard this in 1972 in my parent's basement in a jam session with my brother.
The classic musicality Dennis DeYoung had was apparent and spoke to the romantic in every girl's heart
And THIS is why LIVE music is always the best !
Wow! That was great! I remember when I first heard this song, I must have been probably 9 or 10. I felt how love could be from a man to a woman. I loved it.. very powerful and how I would want a man to think of me. Yes I could feel those feelings at that young age because I really listened to the lyrics of songs..
Dennis DeYoung played so great to boredom! He could play his Steinway backwards facing away from the keys! Doing that to boredom, he learned to play backwards and spinning! Not missing a note! All members of this group greatly exceeded their playing and performance abilities!
This is a song that I dedicated to a girl loved in high school. Every time when I hear it it takes me back to those days. We eventually got married but ended up going our separate ways. That was back in 93. But it's now December 20th 2023 And we are still great friends. So Lorry you have my love forever and a day ❤
Marylin was my best friend, my everything, my all. She was the song in my heart that filled my days, then one day my world came crashing down when her husband found out.
😂😂😂😂😂
Dennis is just as great as Billy Joel. Very under rated
Actually Mr Leon Russell is also underated
Actually...better.
On piano? Billy Joel leaves Dennis in the dust
Not really a competition. I can enjoy both Joel and Styx and whatever flavor I've got a craving for at the moment. Sometimes I order Chicago style pizza and sometimes New York!
Better voice than Joel by a country mile,.
I love how Dennis looks around at the reaction!
"Lady" by far their best song. Just Beautiful
Yes. Definitely. Can’t believe Dennis was kicked out of his own band he started
I sang this to my wife on our wedding day 12/11/10 !! I had help from my buddy thank GOD !!!!
My first concert I went to see Styx, my mom got me tickets for my 13th birthday
Yes I saw Styx in concert with my best friend Kathryn from H.S. 1970s great decade for concerts!
I was at this concert!!
A masterpiece of a song
So beautiful ! Real music !
The beginning of this song on the piano reminds me of rain falling on the window at night.
The year I was born.......One of my favorite songs....Didn't realize Styx had been around so long
Can I get a big Amen!!
Absolute perfection! What a masterpiece!
the local station in Chicago WLS played tjis song and the demand was great and the rest is history
My favorite Styx song 😢😢😢🎉🎉🎉❤😊
was born in these awesome era of rock and roll, these guys kill it!
He could play piano anywhere, so talented!
I still get goosebumps at this 🎵
As of last week this band is still fantastic
I believe it was nineteen ninety six. Sticks reformed to do a reunion tour. The very first venue on this tour was in pine knob michigan. All the band members were still alive and played. What's gotta be in my opinion? The greatest concert i've ever been to. After seeing that concert I said I never need to see another concert again and I haven't.
Styx is my favorite band since 1983, when I was 12 years old. An epic and very powerful song.
Right on nice fellow 50 something
Beautiful song 🎵 🎉awesome lyrics 🎉
"Ok it's workin'" haha! He is fabulous!
Man, guys, i get the nostalgia, but dont miss out on good stuff just because you gave up looking decades ago. Its work but there are still good musicians out there.
Back when music was basically talent and performance, not smoke and mirrors and dance numbers .... it was just ..... music.
Dennis was tge master. At writing hit songs... almost everything that was one of their greatest hits was born in dennis overcooked musical brain ❤❤❤❤❤
Im listening on beats headphones.. and the sound these guys are playing is amazing and awesome 👏👏👍👍
Is there a better live version than this? Because this was amazing. The piano though, just wow.
Always loved this song. Wow his voice is incredible! My only complaint with this song is its too short. Lol
Love Styx!!! Awesome band saw them play live at The Hollywood Sportatorium back in the day remember it like it was yesterday great show had a Blast!!!!
love this song
This makes me sad.... the power of the 3 in front is amazing when they are together, DDY is obviously the lead here, but when TS and JY come in together at the break @3:18, it is perfection.
JY is the secret sauce in Styx’s vocals, and the main reason their vocals are still great
I really want to watch more live videos of this great band. I have no idea why it's too hard to find.
Seen styx in paradise theatre awesomely awsome
Wow! That was really something! I mean, the late 70's was an absolute beast of an era for really excellent rock n roll. And Styx, although they got plenty of recognition at the time, they kinda had a *lot* of competition at the time too. Does that make sense?
Came to my High School in 75. Tickets were $4.
Classic Rock at its finest ❤ ty 4 the memories
The ONE and ONLY; often imitated, NEVER matched......EVER.......
Incredible voice.
Dennis was a pianist, great one at that. I was lucky enough to see them in concert when i was young. His voice was wonderful.
Saw Styx in concert and they are an amazing group
Another great band from the 70s.
I’m glade I got to see them in concert in Bangor Maine 9-18-2022
BEAUTIFUL SONG STYX
One of the best harmony vocal rock bands.
LLOOOVVEE THIS VIDEO
Now this is a great song. Piano, vocals, bass, guitar and drums.
They used to always play this on FM Radio WSHE Miami Florida
Perfecta interpretación, parece que fue ayer, otro de los grandes grupos que dejaron huella y que coordinación en los coros.
if not for this song we may have never heard of STYX.
You said it all absolutely spot on
One of the greatest bands and notice the lack of flashing lights and bling? That's because they were actually singing and playing instruments, cuz that's what music used to be, talented musicians sharing their art with the rest of us...very few 'famous' 'recording artists' of today could ever compete with real talent.
Yep in Sw Mich we got WLS 50k watts AM from Chicago #
So I lived this song & had the Song on 45 on Wooden Nickel label
So much better than the studio version that was rerecorded for the greatest hits album
Such a beautiful song.
That’s why music was so much better then
That piano man he's great omg
Great one
Nothing hurts worse than feeling exactly like this but it's not reciprocated.
Suck it up buttercup ,we men are just not allowed ,I have to remind myself.
STYX is two bands...
Tommy was the rocker...
Dennis was the ballads.
Between those two, just enjoy an overflow of pure talent.
Dennis Deyoung the keyboard mistro!
Tommy's mic sounded way louder when he kicked in, drowning Dennis out badly. I would be pissed if that was me. Lol
Amazing
