He has the stock on but there rarely ever is one over the stock ones on these builds. I have seen some slightly bigger that his but not many the car is pretty well planted and has a great power to weight ratio as is. Man I miss my 03 😅 😢 😭
I'm thinking about getting myself an Audi A5 Cabrio TFSI (as my Mk5 GTI is dying) because I want to try having a sport convertible but I don't want to part with one of the best engines ever made... Then I see GTIs here and there and I'm not sure of what to do anymore. :D
If you can afford it, keep a known good and maintain it, especially if it's a long-term thing. If you're bored with it and/or it's cheaper to get something else than to fix/improve what you have, then go for gold. I've a feeling it'll be a whole lot cheaper to keep the mk5 and give it some tlc and it'll be a more involving drive. The a5 will give you good looks, more comfort and probably less fun in spirited runs + higher upkeep costs and that's not even counting potential mods. My 2c 🙂
@@papapetad yeah, the fact is that It's starting to fall apart.. interiors are completely disintegrating, engine has ok-ish performances (after a 3k€ trip to the mechanic) but they come and go and now it started vibrating a lot at low rpms and making strange noises. Fuel trims are always all over the place and every mechanic I go to seems to implicitly tell me "what do you expect me do to on a 230K Km car?". At the end they make up something else to look into and just don't check the fuel trim problem... I'm used to keep my cars until they die, but I'm not sure this time it will be worth it...
If you don't have an airbag you should not use the stock seat belt. In case of an accident the seat belt load limiter will release the pressure and you will hit the steering wheel. The seat belt is designed to be used with the airbag at the same time. Without airbag you should use arnes always. Anyway nice car and nice lap
Yeah, not got a gti myself but heard it’s all centered around ‘component protection’. This basically means the dsg won’t downshift to the redline to prevent any mechanical damage/issues that might occur.
As a mk7.5 GTI owner idk how much suspension work can be done to mitigate that rubbing at those speeds, maybe it was truly soft suspension like Misha said, but I used to run 245/40/18 Falken RT660 Tires on that exact setup and rub like a MOFO. The moment I went 235/35/19 for a daily car setup I never rubbed again. I think the tire and wheel combo is just too aggresive for the stock fender (which has a stupid screw placement that rubs the tire which you can roughly see at @0:26 ) that carves up the tire. Anyways Misha wasn't fazed by it and it was a great lap for a GTI.
As a m7.5 gti owner myself, you should have no problems with scraping if you do the fender screw removal mod, have a stiff enough suspension, and have enough camber(most likely anywhere from -1.5 to -3 degrees). It looks like his suspension is too soft and he doesnt have enough camber. If you want to know more just ask, as i have my gti set up for track right now and its pretty dialed in.
I honestly think its a bit of a mix from the GTI's long gearing which sucks honestly as it should have ratios more similar to an a45s and the fact depending on what he did for the stage 2 tune, If hes running the highest octane fuel for the map and has an intake or intercooler he may just be making closer to 300hp.

Only 1, technically - the airbag light because of the aftermarket steering wheel. Other lights - Sensors not operational (bottom left, because esc/tcs is off), esc off next to that, tcs off to the bottom right, yellow triangle shows when any other light is on as a general warning.
These engines doesn`t smoke from 2018 year, when it got new PCV unit (part number end on "BL"). I also have IS20 stage 2 built on coilovers and racing brake pads. Never saw smoke behind, never had an oil consumption

@@M3LLO_10 That will allow you to adjust ESC options, including being able to "disable ESC" and "anti slip regulation" but it'll still kick back in if you break traction hard enough so it's not "completely" off

Because this guy had the stock turbo. Great for around town but terrible up top. If he fitted a stock golf R turbo Misha would have enjoyed this car pulling to redline

This GTI is a ripper, but yeah. Suspension is way way too soft. Too much rubbing and dancing around. Owner needs to dial that in a good deal. I always love seeing GTI content though, and it's a 2dr to boot. 2dr's are best!
Gear feel very wrong, from 4 up all useless, someone messed up and very bad, when you have more gear, you generally want to short them. And the car feel restricted.
gti´s can be great and fast all they want, but i think you can allways tell when a car does not wake any real emotion in Misha...gti´s are far and many and Misha has driven them all and his face when driving one says it all...its that ok another one of these bored to d*ath expressions! and whats up with all the bots in the comments???
Agree, you can almost predict what the review is going to be after a few corners. It must be tough to remain positive for expectant owners, when the car has been made worse with mods
@@_DutchFox_ yeah despite the suspension being way too soft. This GTI handled the lap really well considering. FWD can be very capable. It's why the MK7 Clubsport GTI has faster times on this track than the 7R.

"Bad" seems a little harsh. It just wasn't optimized for the racetrack. I wouldn't want mine to be, either, unless it was a dedicated track toy.

IS20 standard Golf GTI gear ratios are very long. A popular conversion is to do the Golf R / Cupra gearbox that has the shorter ratios
