- Soak, Clean & Grade!
This was really fun to work on. I’m still learning and practicing on more modern era cards with injuries on the back. I know this video is almost 10 minutes long but I tried to be as detailed as I can.
If you have a card with big issues on the back with a plastic front, like Bowman Chrome, Prizm or Optic, I’ve had success. Enjoy the video and make sure you stay to the end.

Fantastic video. And I believe in magic that I looked at this video
Great stuff Kurt thanks man!
Lovin these card soak vids - thank you!
Glad you like them!
Go Kurt! great video
more like Merlin's Card care. ;-) nice work Kurt. looks great!
YOU THE MAN KURT! Nice work. Got my humidor all setup today. Letting it set over night. After church it’s go time. (Josh)
cool, supportive of what you do and share TY
The reflection of your lights predicted the 10. 😄
what are you soaking it in? the card spray? sorry if i missed in the vid
Yes, card spray
HOLY COW!! Gem mint 10!?!?🤯 from those crazy damages that would definitrly drop it way down in grade, to getting it like that, thats just damn incredible 👏🏽 im so glad i found your channel and am looking forward to getting a kit of yours and a humidor to really start restoring a bunch of cards that really need it. Vintage don mattingly's, ryne sandberg's, mark mcgwire's, jeter's, etc. Cant wait to see them come back to life!
Sounds like you have some great projects. Check out my vintage playlists here on UA-cam, I have a lot of cool stuff you can do with paper cards to bring them back to life.
Wow thats great
You beat the system. That's awesome. PSA are such sticklers for perfection and they are so quick to either ding minor blemishes or hit you with an "altered" designation. The way you got rid of the "zipper dent" on the back was nothing short of genius.
Eventually, PSA wi'll find ways to disqualify "card cleaning". But for now, keep fighting the good fight.
I hope that I have showed enough videos that any grading service should be able to see that there are simple and effective ways to take care of cards that don’t screw them up. My goal is to make card care the standard vs something you shouldn’t do. One day at a time. One video at a time.
That didn't take long. I think what your doing is awesome. Hopefully they see it that way soon
The Wizard!! 🙌🙌
What are the plates and clamps you use called? Thanks Kurt!
I have them linked here

Is there a way to flatten out warped/bent prizm cards? Like when they get that annoying bend to them, most the time right out of the pack they are like that. Do you have any vids on that issue?
I just put them in a penny sleeve and a top loader, or a semi rigid. Unless the curve is more severe than usual, that should do it.
If a card split or a corner split, is it still fixable? Also do we have to use card spray for the soak? Would there be an alternative?
It depends on the card, if you’re on Instagram, you can send me a picture
It's okay for a printing company to produce that but not okay to fix?? Gimme a break
I’m gonna tell you it’s OK to fix 🤙🏼
Not only to produce it, but to SELL it to us
Did you dry the card in the humidor or just let it air dry between the two plates & pads?
Good question. Between the pads for the first day and then I started putting it on my desk for a couple hours at a time and then back to the pads and did that rotation for several more days until it was dry. Then I put it between the plates without the pads. I have it in the video. 👍🏼
Absolutely loving the products from your store and significantly increasing my grade values. One thing I have been struggling with is reusing the wax applicator and microfiber towel. Can you give a piece of advice on cleaning these tools to be able to use for a longer period of time. Thank you for all your knowledge 🙏
Great question, don’t try to clean them or reuse them after they get some buildup. Just throw them away you wanna make sure you’re always using nice clean ones. Good news they’re not expensive and I get them all on Amazon. I’ll drop you a link. I really appreciate the message, keep up the great work.

@@kurtscardcare this was extremely helpful thank you for the links. They are greatly appreciated!
I’m trying this on my Joe Burrow 2020 optic but only half the scratches are coming off. Do you think I should resoak it in after it dries?
I would be cautious to do it twice. I wouldn’t want you to make a mistake. But I did a couple with sharp indents in them and they only reduced a little bit. The smaller and deeper the indent the more difficult so far
This man is a genius! #CardGuru
What’s your suggestion with numbered cards like this?
I’ve done two so far with no problems. So that’s not a ton of data but so far so good.
Just Pulled a cool mcgwire insert from a 91 upper deck box. Same zipper mark. Going to try it since the card isn't worth a lot but it'd be cool for my pc if it was better than it is now.
This method will work when you have a sturdy plastic front like this card. I think the 91 upper deck is not going to be strong enough to take this type of treatment. You can send me a picture on Instagram if you want. I don’t want you to mess it up.
@@kurtscardcare thank you. Right now it's in my junk card pile so it'd be no real loss.
@kurtscardcare I believe 91 is the year that splits and separates
wow
Is that water? Or your card care spray? That it’s soaking in?
It’s my card spray
For vintage is it also about the same time to soak like time lapse?
Pretty darn close, usually 20 minutes will get a card clean from the vintage era. Check out my paper/vintage playlist if you wanna watch some vintage stuff. 🤙🏼
Hey Kurt, do you have a video of how to get rid of the same kind of surface damage on Pokémon cards? I’m pretty sure we can’t soak but maybe I could use the spray you sell for certain areas?
Unfortunately, not, my products are good at cleaning them and making the surfaces look great but creases and dents are too challenging when it comes to the rigid materials Pokémon cards are made out of. I haven’t quit. I’m just not there yet.
Does anyone know if this can be done on 1994 topps finest cards, or the 90’s, 2000s, chromium type cards in general??
I haven’t tried anything from the 90s yet. But I promise to do so ASAP so far I’ve had success with Panini optic, prizm and bowman chrome
Is there any way to get those roller lines out of the back? Even after the soak they're still there.
Not these ones. They were embedded into the surface. Sometimes they are very light and you can get them to clean up.
@@kurtscardcare I figured as much but thought about asking anyway because do many moderns cards ship with that defect.
HEY KURT! Is there anyway you could show fixing surface scratches on the clear Rookie ticket autos? If possible? Great videos! Keep it up! 💪😎
You can definitely clean the card, but I don’t think I could get scratches out of plastic. Any light abrasion or something minor is possible but scratches suck. Usually permanent.
Awesome I’m going to soak all my cards in water!
Any comment on the jackie getting decertified ? Interested to know your feeling as my full time gig is comic pressing and ive been doing it 10 years now. Great videos very informative... if i would give u advice its to probably always stay side of caution dont push envolpe of the graders our industry is going through a change as we with stain removal techniques im not a huge fan of chemicals and peroxide and lights being used it make the paper quality feel and look unnatural.
This is Amazing! I have a Ja Morant Select Auto with a similar problem. What can I do to fix it? Can I soak it with the sticker Auto?
I have soaked several Prizm auto stickers. I haven’t had any issues. I make sure I don’t touch it or wipe across it.
Had some edges splitting around the card but still followed the steps and after a day between pads and then a day between just the plates it came back to normal! I even tried pulling the edges back apart by dragging my thumb across them back and forth and they were solid and wouldn’t come back apart! This was on a base card for practice people of earth! Don’t try on a Mahomes rookie first try like the guy down there 👇 did
I'm new. What did you soak it in? Your cleaning solution or plain water?
Good question, I use my card spray solution for this
What kind of water did I soak it in? Distilled water? Or the liquid from your spray
I used my spray. You can find it in the shop at www.kurtscardcare.com
So scared to do this. Lol. Hit a 2014 Mookie Betts /50 and it has a dent on the front bottom left corner.
I think we spoke on Instagram. When you get the card, show me a picture I’ll give you some options.
Is there anything i can do for a vintage beauty with, what i believe is, a water mark on the corner?
Yes, usually your gonna have to use a little bit of card spray and let the area dry evenly, not too wet . Check out a couple of the videos in my vintage playlist, look at the top view. If you wanna send me a picture and Instagram Instagram, I’ll take a look.
What do you soak the cards in? I just got a kit
For this, I’m using card spray
@@kurtscardcare thanks Kurt secondly if I’m using a humidifier it should get out a small dimple without me using the edge thing correct
@@daddy8154 it depends on the type of card. Dimples are typically permanent because they’re deep and so small. If it’s on the front of a plastic card, it will not go anywhere. If it’s on a paper or soft material, you might have a chance.
Bought my first shipment and received it today. Looking forward to trying it myself. Could you do an autographed sticker card? That's what I have the most of right now that I would attempt to grade.
Hey Duane, you can work on your sticker autos. I would avoid touching the autograph, but the rest of the card is totally fine to clean up. If you need to soak a sticker, I’ve done it twice and I haven’t had an issue. If you’re on Instagram, feel free to show me a picture. I’ll let you know if I can give you any advice.
Wow
Do you use a pseudonym to grade your cards
Sorry , I'll never do that in a million years . Mine are all old vintage . I'm sellin like they are
What are you selling?
Would that work on tcg cards
Unfortunately not it will ruin it in about five seconds
What did u soak it in? Water?
My card spray. It’s in the shop at www.kurtscardcare.com
@@kurtscardcare ok thank you
@kurtscardcare what that did to that card was magical
Can wait to try this with my 52 Mantle
I have videos for that card too. Sounds like a great idea.
what did you soak it in...
This is using my card spray
@@kurtscardcare kk thx
Do u soak in distilled water?
No, I’m using my spray. You can see it here: www.kurtscardcare.com
Thanks doing some practicing while watching the game. When u have a stubborn little mark u just use polish a few times
Ya I had some little scuffs and a little scratch. Got it looking nice with a little polish
What kind of glove u use just Normal neoprene gloves?
@@jesseprather906 yes
Didn't work, my card got absolutely destroyed genius!
Good thing you did a base card first
Did you practice on the base card like I suggested? You gotta make sure you follow all the steps.
he probably soaked the card too long 😢
Kurt please don’t make the mistake I did and soak a normal rated rookie card that’s not optic. I ruined a Patrick mahomes rookie card by that. And please don’t make the same mistka
That sucks. I totally understand how that can happen. You need to have the plastic rigid front
If you’re on Instagram, shoot me a picture, let’s see if there’s a way to get it any better
Would that work on the chrome front the same way? I always seem to find a few Panini cards with factory roller indents.
I'd love to know this too. Does it work on the front?
