    I dont think its double every atmosphere its every atmosphere is equal to the na power. 1000hp na would roughly be 2000 at 15psi then 3000 at 30psi bumping to 45 would get you 4k and 60psi 5000hp at that math you are perfectly inline with power. Obviously pushing the turbos will raise back pressure and drop efficiency so it might stop gaining at some point

    Steve can you go over turbos and how they can be angled, I’ve always heard that they need to be level to ensure proper oiling to the journal. Or if there is another video you have explaining that already.

    • @dbjunior1238
      @dbjunior1238 2 роки тому +6

      Different types of turbos have different oil needs. Ball bearing vs journal bearing is totally different. Too much oil can be a bad thing for ball bearing turbos as it actually slows down the ball bearings having to push fluid rather than just roll. Part of why they restrict oil on ball bearing turbos. Journal bearings require they float on the oil so a lot more oil flow is needed. lower oil flow and odd angle can lead to odd wear on a journal bearing turbo but not on a ball bearing turbo.

      In addition to your question, how long should the engine idle after a hard run to allow the turbo bearing to cool off.
      Though completely different animals, I have a friend that put on a big turbo on his Cummins truck motor and the turbo seized. I'm not sure if all turbos benefit or require 30 seconds, or even a minute or more to idle and allow the bearings to cool.

    A lot of people forget about the first atmosphere, zero boost. 15 psi is the second atmosphere and 30psi is thrird atmospheres. The engine makes about a 1000hp per bar. Running boost in PSIA rather than PSIG would straighten that out.

    • @oldscratch3535
      @oldscratch3535 2 роки тому +1

      Technically, one atmosphere is 14.7 psi. Every engine has 14.7 psi of pressure pushing into it. 2 atmospheres would be 29 psi. 3 would be 44 psi.
      15 psi of air from your power adder is just on top on the 14.7 psi already pushing into it. You're also increasing air density. I get that you're strictly speaking about what the power adder is producing, but just in case there's someone out there who doesn't understand, all engines run on 14.7 psi of "boost". Or, as close to 14.7 psi as engine vacuum will allow.

    Just a joke, but would love to see the HP numbers on it with the Cleeter eater NITROUS SPRAYER through the turbos for Denver 5,000 ft elevation power adder system, a horrible idea that actually worked, getting him the number one spot with Mullet for that drag and drive event.
    Only a guy with more dollars than sense would do that with a Steve Morris already twin turbo boosted engine. But, it did almost work to perfection, wound those babies right up to get them up to speed fast. Massive altitude, matched by a nearly instant wind up. Got him right up on the chip. Ziiiiiiiing.

    Do you think that the 12 magnet dampener could be what's causing Garrett's problems with Ruby? It has that front mounted crank trigger setup with a holly, and ever since they've switched it to that type of cps it has broken up and looses rpm/crank signal. It's been like 2 years, and they still haven't gotten it right.

    I’m late watching this video, so maybe someone else has commented, but you said doubling boost from 15 psi to 30 would not double horsepower. The answer is you left out the first 15-ish pounds of boost from the atmosphere. If you think of that 2100 hp run as somewhere over 2 atmospheres, then go to 3, the math works out almost exactly. In fact you showed the NA engine must be close to 1000 hp, then 2000 at around 15 and 3000 at 30. The old reference 1 or reference 0 error… Regardless, an interesting display of “effortless” horsepower! Thanks!

  • @totensiebush
    @totensiebush 2 роки тому

    regarding power doubling... if adding an atmosphere added NA engine power, and you're at 2100 at 15psi (1atm boost), I'd expect 1.5x that at 30psi (2atm boost), 3000 and change, and a little over 1000 NA.
    Not saying it does, but nobody is suggesting going from 15psi to 30psi doubles your power - it increases it by 50%.

That would make me truly happy if i could say something like that was mine.

    Remember if your engine makes 600hp n/a it should make 1200 hp at 15 psi if turbo and engine support it will make 1800 hp at 30psi all math is done by the base hp horsepower of engine n/a meaning if I make 600 hp the math works off that on your engine please correct yourself

    Hp vs boost is roughly right, but it starts with 0, not atmosphere…. So that thing makes ~2000hp at 15 psi, which means it’s probably ~1000 naturally aspirated. So then 30psi would be in the order of 3000hp, 45 psi around 4000, 60psi around 5000, 75psi in the 6000 class.

    Do you have to remove one magnet on the trigger wheel to make it work with the Fueltech system? Ty.

    Is there a specific brand laptop that you have had the best luck with for tunning?

      Looks like Windows 11. Brand of laptop probably doesn't matter as long as it is one of the major brands.

    Steve, I turned one of the other racers onto you and your products and sense of duty to your customers. He’s having all of the problems you have fixed. He’s running somebody’s CBB and having the the oil shortage problems you solved in the SMX. I pointed out with all the stuff he was having trouble with (oil staying in the top of the motor, spun bearings an needing new rod {thinking about aluminum} lifters getting too much oil and heads also that they realized they had around 3qts in the pan fo the run which caused bent forged rods an also the crank balance weights were drilled down straight in the crank a came out! The dad asked what the mullet was running and I said SMX BY STEVE MORRIS!! Gave them you UA-cam and told them to look around and see the whole operation you’ve built on meticulous tuning and craftsmanship!!!❤️💜😎

    Your comment on doubling boost may be flawed, maybe gpsi

    In your opening run down you mentioned trying to run a 4 magnet crank wheel but it didn't work to your satisfaction. I have a twin turbo 555 bbc with a FT600, coil near plug, 4 magnet crank wheel. At 6300 rpm acts like it hits limiter. 15 psi boost limiter is 7000. Could this be a 4 magnet symptom? Plugs gapped at .016, msd coils 5ms dwell. A/F 10.8 on E 85.. Probably the wrong place to ask.. But thought I'd try anyway. thanks

      i would ask Fueltech, normally you cant get them to start. Use the cam sync to start only too.

    Doesn’t anyone make an automotive air conditioner style clutch that can be used on mechanical fuel pump? I am at 5 minutes in on video just in case something gets mentioned about pump drive options.

    I think instead of Steve Morris engines, you should call it Chuck Norris engines because after your done with them, they look like Chuck Norris got a hold of them. And you know that the energy of a chuck Norris roundhouse kick is equal to that of the sun.
