I posted a comment 11 months ago. I have since made this waistband for many pair of pants and they are so comfy now. I agree it does not work for jeans. Lighter weight pants or knits are good with this type waistband. I am using a rib knit fabric 95% cotton and 5% spandex for the waistband and it works great. Thank you again!

I think you have solved my pull on pants that are too tight in waist. I have severe pain in my right rib that ALL pants hurt it. BUT I think you hit the nail on the head!!!. I am going to thank you ahead of me fixing the ew pants I just bought that about two inches to high in the crotch area. Ill let you know how it turns out😄😁🤗
Nice and simple....before I tried-maybe it was not my sewing day today! Just made a waistband. It turned out way too wide around the waist. Also I had difficulties, with the raw edges of the waistband, because fabric was shifting and the raw edge of the pants rolled up Another challenge was for me, to get all 4 parts even. They seemed never to be even, I will try again with less sstretchy fabric....you might have sad something in the beginning, how much strech is actually recommended. I still love the idea, so thank you
I have found that with jeans, adding elastic (maybe 3/4 inch) inside the top of the waistband, in the fold, gives the fabric the strength to support the weight of the pants. Of course, using a slightly heavier knit also helps.
Could you explain how to do that please I need to let mine out some I've gained some weight and have fibroid tumors and need a total hysterectomy have so many nice things but just can't not fit into them
Oh. My. Gosh. I knew there was a reason I loved you. How many pairs of Levis 505's did you have? Lee never fit me and it's because I am exactly like you - bigger waist, smaller hips. I've never had that flat tummy or the abs everyone else has. In the past couple of years I've just been getting my shorts at Sam's and Costco, since they have the pedal pushers with the yoga waistband. But I'd love to change up some of my regular canvas shorts so thanks! This is a great tutorial - here's to 2020, the year of comfy waistbands. ❤️😘
I love this video. I may actually be able to do this! I have a pair of jeans w/zipper & button. Too big and button pokes out. I'd like to take the wide waistband off an old pair of jeans to replace zippered waistband. What do you think? I AM NOT A SEAMSTRESS!!! Thank you!
Hi Mimsy, you might want to try it on a pair of lighter weight pants first. Jeans are kind of heavy and so you need to adjust your band tight enough to hold them up, but not so tight that it defeats the purpose. It’s worth playing around with it until it’s just right!! Good luck!! Stephanie
I have inflammatory bowel disease and swell up like I’m pregnant a lot so this exactly what I need to escape my leggings! Now I need to find some trousers in the sale to experiment on.
This will help me fix a pair of pants that are too high rise If I take the waistband off and the zipper out I’m able to pull them up with putting an elastic around the top great idea thank you
You can actually shorten the rise on pants by sewing the crotch and upper leg area, crosswise. In other words from your abdomen to your butt. Make sense? If not, reply. This way, you don’t have to take the waistband off and the rise will be shortened without having to rip open the waist band.
Hey Stephanie, I loved your video, thank you so much for sharing this amazing idea! I loved how passionayand bubbly u were and are! I was in search of how to turn my regular pants into something comfy like my maternity pants. You know how maternity pants stretch right around the belly all the way up to your underbust, which I thought I would hate but I actually LOVED! I was wondering, using your idea, would I be able to make the stretchy knit go all the way to my underbust? Not for pregnancy just for everyday. Would u recommend putting elastic up the top (in the underbust) to stop it from falling and if so, how would I attach the elastic? I mainly want compression on my lower tummy (after a C section I like compression) but would still like the fabric to go all the way up, I find it more flattering on my body
Yes, it would be easy to make it wider and that would still be so comfy. If you decide to put some elastic, try just putting it in the back and not in the front. For me, this is more comfortable. Good luck!! 🥰
@@FarrellFocus that's a good idea! Thank you. 🙂Do you have any tips on how I would measure the elastic to make sure that it is actually going to stay up? 🙉
I can't wait to do this to a bunch of my pants, including scrub pants i wear for work! But, why not just cut your fabric on a fold so that you only have one side seam. And then when you tried it on and reduced it, why not just cut all the excess off one side? Just a timesaver.
New subscriber everything is too tight in the waist have the exact same problem but I don't know how to sew with the sewing machine could I possibly hand sew this somehow I am willing to take hours on one pair help please Love your channel forever grateful that I found you God bless bless
I have done it on denim. Make sure your knit is not too thin and stretchy, and make sure it’s just tight enough...other wise the denim pulls it down. I have done it and I like it. But I do have to pull up my pants a lot. It’s worth it to me. Good luck and let me know how it goes. 💙
I have done that. If they are heavy, you might feel like they want to pull down, so it’s trial and error. Better if the pants are not tight, works great on flowy pants. Hope that helps. 🥰
How wide should the waistband be? I have a pair of safari pants that are too small in the waist. I can;t wait to try this. They sit below the waist......so uncomfortable. Hopefully this will also help with that. Thanks you.
Thank you. I'm also larger in the middle. I think with my gut, my waist measurement is slightly larger than my hips. When my thyroid messed up, I put most of my weight on my middle. I like the waistbands on yoga pants but I don't like stuff tight to the rest of my legs- especially my calves-- I have thick ankles and calves. I only like stretch fabrics now. I find that the gathers dig into my skin and leaves marks and makes me uncomfortable. I actually want pockets on my pants. I've started getting men's pants because they fit me better than women's pants and they have bigger pockets. I showed my brother how small pockets were on women's pants and he was offended that they were that small. LOL. Anyway, I wear 1x pants but 2x to 3x tops (depending on how much stretch they have or sizing variables). I feel the same way about the waistband on the zippered pants. Always feels too constricting. Those pants do look nice! Hmm.. I got a lycra sports bra that was too small and I'm wondering if I can somehow convert it to a waistband. Fake pockets on pants absolutely enrage me. I wonder if I could just take a camisole and leave it sewn together, cut a strip out that is twice and tall as I need it, fold it over, and make a waistband that way (I could use the finished hem part as the top). Although, that hem part might not fit right... I could always make adjustments though.
I get it! And yes, a stretchy camisole can make a great waistband. It can be hard to find comfort. You night want to explore learning to sew your own clothes, there are some really easy patterns and you can make them fit you the way you want. Good luck! ❤️
@@FarrellFocus I am researching patterns and hoping to learn to sew. I took HomeEc back in the 80s but I haven't sewn with a machine since then. She only has one cat and two dogs. I do hope to eventually build my own sewing desk and get a good sewing machine. I have sewn things by hand but it takes awhile. I'll have to check a Walmart in a different town bc my local one doesn't have much. LOL. I might also check local thrift shops. Ill let you know how it turns out😄😁🤗
What a great idea! I couldn't quite make out how wide you cut the waistband- was it 10 inches? Thanks!
Thank you!! This is exactly what I was looking for!! If this works out, it will be life changing!! :D
😀
Oh yes!! I get it! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
@@FarrellFocus It worked!! 1st pair of shorts converted to comfy!! Working on second now! Thank you!!
Oh how I would love to find someone to do this for my jeans!
Nice and simple....before I tried-maybe it was not my sewing day today!
Just made a waistband. It turned out way too wide around the waist.
Also I had difficulties, with the raw edges of the waistband, because fabric was shifting and the raw edge of the pants rolled up
Another challenge was for me, to get all 4 parts even. They seemed never to be even,
I will try again with less sstretchy fabric....you might have sad something in the beginning, how much strech is actually recommended.
I still love the idea, so thank you
Hang in there, sometimes it takes a test garment to figure it out. Good luck and let me know if I can help.
AMAZING….U R SOO SMART ❤
I need to try this on my jeans. The fly sticks out and causes me to have small holes in my tops. This looks like the perfect solution!
I have found that with jeans, adding elastic (maybe 3/4 inch) inside the top of the waistband, in the fold, gives the fabric the strength to support the weight of the pants. Of course, using a slightly heavier knit also helps.
That’s great advice Leslie. Jeans are so heavy. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Could you explain how to do that please I need to let mine out some I've gained some weight and have fibroid tumors and need a total hysterectomy have so many nice things but just can't not fit into them
Have you used rib knit (like the cuff on sweatshirts) to make these waistbands?
No, I haven’t. If you have some, you could experiment. Good luck! 😊
Oh. My. ❤️😘
Hi Jen, yes!! Yoga band on everything!! And yes, I had those jeans. Lol. 💙💙💙
I sure hope this helps!!🥰
This is awesome
Thank you!
This is a great idea. Any chance this would work on denim? I always have the muffin top problem with my jeans.
I have done it on denim. Make sure your knit is not too thin and stretchy, and make sure it’s just tight enough...other wise the denim pulls it down. I have done it and I like it. But I do have to pull up my pants a lot. It’s worth it to me. Good luck and let me know how it goes.
💙
@@FarrellFocus thanks for the tip
Thank you!!!
Could you put a yoga band on a woven pair of trousers?
I got a pfaf overlocker off fb marketplace that I want to use. Problem is finding space and keeping my 15 cats out of the way. LOL. But I definitely want to do this. The camisole thing is awesome though. I'll have to see if I can find any or find equivalent things.
@@catsmeow5566 lol. Cats…we have a lot too…maybe we’ll catch up with you! For the camis…try Walmart. I always find them there for waistbands. Keep in touch! 🥰
@@FarrellFocus Thanks! I have a friend who sews who is setting up a sewing room and I'm going to see if we can work together on stuff. I can provide materials and patterns for her. She only has one cat and two dogs. I do hope to eventually build my own sewing desk and get a good sewing machine. I have sewn things by hand but it takes awhile. I'll have to check a Walmart in a different town bc my local one doesn't have much. LOL. I might also check local thrift shops. I do have a nice oak desk a late elderly friend built but I need to clean it up and clear space. Any suggestions on sewing machines and other necessities? I have some sewing supplies, but not a lot.
@@catsmeow5566 well I have one that I bought on amazon, brother project runway, really inexpensive, but my favorite is from Craigslist, janome, nothing fancy but it gets the job done. Let me know what you find! 🪡🧵
Thank you !! I’m planning on putting yoga band on my leggings because they fit but the waist is bulky :/
That should fix it!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
What kind of fabric content and % of spandex are you using?
Is there a recommended height for the band fabric? I know it’s folded over so, that’s double height, but is there a standard up and down measure so that the band is comfortable and usable?
