Lack of communication or miss-communication has been one of my pet peeve tropes my whole life, in all media formats, so I totally feel your foot tapping state of being. I find myself literally or mentally shouting "JUST TALK TO EACH OTHER" a lot 😆 It has only gotten stronger as I've aged as well
i think us adhders are mood readers by definition. even exciting reading plans usually end up feeling like demands 🙃always tweaking toward the middle ground between 'let the soft animal of your body love what it loves' and 'still achieving, still pursuing, learn to labour and to wait' 😉this year it's gonna be reading challenges, but different short ones every month!
It’s a bit more subtle in Jingo, but when you get to Monsterous Regiment, you can really feel Pratchetts anger about the fact these conflicts repeat over and over.
The reason that The Immortals Quarter is better paced is because it was planned as a quartet. Song of the Lioness was going to be a single volume, for adult readers, but it was suggested she re-wrote it for teens/YA and that's why (while fantastic) the pacing is less good because it was refactored.
LMAO the Shion Miura book, thanks for the heads-up, LOL. I just got that and hearing you describe him as a creeper is hilarious and also makes me aware of the most likely translation issue (I HOPE). Also if you read the challenges Tamora Pierce had getting Song of the Lioness published you'd kind of understand why it is why it is. It's amazing but she originally wrote it for adults and had to scale it back when YA became a thing
I am truly hooked on progression fiction so you may have completly sold me on unsouled. Edit: the night circus is truly a book full of magical writing that had me fully transported to another world from start to finish
My goal in 2024 has been t read books i own. I lost sight of that a bit and bought a lot of books that i read lol, so like halfway. I recently stumbled on your self challenge of reading the books you own and that reminded and encouraged me to get back to my original goal. I'm currently reading The Great Library series by Rachel Caine.
I think the tone of the Green Rider series really shifts over the course of the books, in part as Karigan matures, so keep that in mind as you think about continuing! You also get more time with the other folks, in the future books.
I’d also keep in mind that book was first published in 1998. So when it reminds you of other books really they remind you of this. But she definitely matures as the series expands and the world expands greatly.
I loved The Sword of Kaigen, it’s probably the best book I read last year. It made me ugly cry. Sorry it didn’t work as well for you. I’m going to be starting Cradle this month and doing a book a month if I like them. Happy new year! 🎉
I read all 12 Cradle books last year and it was an amazing experience and I highly recommend and hope you keep going. You’ve yet to meet the best character in the whole series and I’d say by the book Ghostwater, you will be beyond hooked and flying through them.
I’m glad to hear your opinion about the new Heartstopper volume, i’m been feeling the same way about YA books as you for a while and it kinda feels lonely since these books are the most read or at least the most mainstream on social media
@@Ezeekatyeah and this miscommunication trope always drag on and it kinda ruins the couples for me, creating problems just for the sake of it never sticks out for me
Im so excited to hear you started Full Metal Alchemist! I don't usually read manga, but I was recommended that one by some friends and I really have loved the story so far (I just finished the omnibus vol 4). I hope you do a video on it - I know it's an older manga so I don't know anyone else reading it now haha.
So excited that you’re going to do more UA-cam videos. I absolutely love your videos on Instagram and your delightful humor! Thank you for your great sense of humor and creativity. Happy New Year!
Happy & healthy 2024! Love to hear you will post longer content here on yt☺️ I really enjoyed your rivendel lego builds. Would love to watch more coziness with you💛
I love the Chronicles of Prydain, but I first read them in 3rd grade and they basically were my entry into fantasy books in general so they will always hold a special place in my heart. (Also yes early Taran is rather insufferable but the supporting characters make it worthwhile)
The Green Rider series is one of my absolute favorites. The next books for sure delve deeper into the stories, and Karigan goes through some SH**, and there is a lot with the other characters. Also, going from light east reads to heavy intense reads can definitely be jarring. As a fellow mood reader, I have had to put books down and start something else before finishing an intense book of I am having trouble connecting..
I really love this youtube channel and CAN not waig for more content from you on here. Its longer form and a little bit more relaxed! I love your personality in these. I am 10000% a mood reader and have found that i do not enjoy books i feel forced to read. Also miscommunication trope is my absolute least fav. I also hate hate 3rd act breakups. I love storygraph much more then goodreads, but the fact that my kindle auto syncs to goodreads makes storygraph not as convient..
Have you read the Codex Alera series by Jim Butcher? Based on a prompt of Pokemon with the Roman Legion? It's a fantastic fantasy series. 6 books, completed series.
Watched this video yesterday for the first time & then today, I had to go in to town & actually saw The Night Circus in Waterstones for £9.99 so I picked it up & I'm very excited to read it after your recommendation. I've just started Impossible Creatures by Katherine Rundell which was recommended to me by the staff there in December & I'm like 3 pages in after reading about the creatures & I haven't felt this excited about a book in a long, long time. Have you read it or is it on your to read list?
Hello Ezeekat...i want to ask a question, you love to collect novel, love to read and you have a library i guess!! Do you rent books also to others? I want to know, what do you do the rest of the books that you are not currently reading......,
Ah, Green Rider is so frustrating. I read the first book when it came out and loved it but the romance and the pacing in the later books were so unsatisfying I gave up on the series 😖
Hi. Just came over from IG. I really enjoyed your reviews. I would love it if you could mention if the books have spice in them. I'm not a prude by any means however, I do take off months at a time from spice.
Just curious because my reading memory is shit. Do you actually remember all the plotlines and names of characters and stuff when doing the wrap up or do you have to check notes/refresh your memory before talking about each book? Because if you just remember all this I am both so impressed and incredibly envious.
Erin Morgensten as an author is a Goddess. Starless sea is my favourite but The night circus is also completely mind blowing. I asked her at Instagram to please write another book and she told me she’s at it, only progressing slowly. At least there’s another masterpiece in the works! I love her so much.

Miscommunication is my LEAST favorite trope too lol
Definitely paused this multiple times to add books to my StoryGraph tbr
Yay!! Hope you found some good ones!!

Every time I reread The Night Circus I worry it won't live up to my memory of it, and it never disappointed. I just find it wonderful everytime again.
It’s a bit more subtle in Jingo, but when you get to Monsterous Regiment, you can really feel Pratchetts anger about the fact these conflicts repeat over and over.
Oh boy, I'll have to prepare for that one.
As someone who loves the Tortall books and is a life long horse girl myself i really need to pick up Green Rider!
I see Ezeekat, I click!!
Thank you bestie!! 😭🥰

The Night Circus was my last read of 2023 too! I loved that book😩 And i loved listening to your review of it😄
It's SO good!
Some of my favorite reads 2023 was Stephen Frys Heros, Mythos and Troy.
I love these longer form videos.
Glad you like them!

That's helpful. I read Green Rider many years ago. So long ago, I didn't know there were more books. I need to re-read and continue ✨
I didn't realize we liked so many of the same books! Definitely going to have to try a few of the authors I haven't read yet (Tamora Pierce)
Lloyd Alexander will always have a special place in my heart because those books are the ones that got my love of fantasy started.
I could totally see that. They feel like a great place to start for younger readers in the fantasy world.

I got bored with Sword of Kaigen but absolutely loved Blood Over Bright Haven.
Alrighty, I guess I will finally pick up The Night Circus. Hope you had a great New Year!
Hope you enjoy it!

honestly that intro was so funny ksjdjdjdj
With The Easy Life of Kamusari … you have to remember that it is written by a different culture as well
Heartstopper:
I think if Charlie and Nick had just talked sense to each other, it wouldn't even have needed a third volume. :D

If you don't want to actually talk about if there is spice or not maybe a simple symbol on the screen that would indicate it?
In general I don’t read much spice so unless I mention a book has spice, it probably doesn’t. None of the books this month have any.
Good to know!!

Marco's a red flag 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
And remember, there's no one book for everyone. My favorite book is absolutely someone else's least favorite and that's totally okay!
