For anyone new coming into this - at 21:48 when talking about First Strike, a party can only utilize First Strike if all members of the Party have First Strike.
It's crazy how many bad tutorials there are for this game. But this one in particular has been the only exception. This is by far the best one that's been recommended. Thank you for ACTUALLY putting effort into your tutorial, unlike the rest.
This is by far the best tutorial I found on you tube for this game. Even the official Square Enix video was nowhere near in terms of quality and how well this video explained the rules.
around the 25:37 mark where paine defended doesn't first strike deal the damage first before it's calculated, so i don't think you can distribute that damage when blocking cos your getting destroyed before you even get to block
To be sure, the Summons can be played at any given time right? So for instance, let say the enemy attacks with a 7k, can I say "I dull my mage / discard a red-card and summon ifrit which inflict 4000 to your attacker, which I then block with this card with 4000 power, it has more than the remaining power of your attacker so it dies"
I started buying the starter decks so that I could get a feel for the game and I like getting precons anyway. I will probably just play those cause I don’t care for tournament play.
Loved the video!!! Did you do the editing for the video yourself? I'm interested to learn how its done if you could give me any pointers it would be appreciated.
Thanks. Yeah I do it all myself. I record using my phone (Samsung Galaxy) and recently started recording the audio with a Rode Lapelmic. I then just drag and drop the clips into Adobe Premier Elements (mine is ver 13 - before yearly subscriptions). Hi great vid very helpful. Just a couple of question if you can help me out with 1) is there a limit to the number of fowards and backups you can have on the field 2) can you still active abilities even if a card is dulled?
Sure thing :) 1. There's no limit to the number of forwards you can have on the field. You are limited to 5 backups however. 2. I believe so - providing the ability doesn't require you to dull the card of course :)
So first of all I wanna say THANK YOU that starter deck instructions were a joke, and ive been playing almost every TCG for long time now(at some point in time or another)I do have a question that no one has gotten back in touch tho and I don't remember seeing it done in the video---- Can u play more then one backup in a single turnor ---- can u play more then one forward in a single turn I know youll still have to generate the CP if u can
Thanks for the feedback. Glad the vid was useful. You can use abilities on or dull as many backups as you like in a single turn. This can be done in different phases. Use can put as many forwards as you like on the field in a single turn but, as you mentioned, you will need to generate the CP and (unless they have haste) you cannot use them on the turn they are played
You can but if the card has two effects, the first won't trigger Example: Zangan (from FF7) EX BURST: When Zangan enters the field, search for a [card With the "Tifa" name in it] and add it to your hand. A [card With the "Tifa" name in it] that costs 4 or less that you own gains haste. If Zangan is revealed when you take damage, the EX BURST triggers and you can look for a Tifa card in your deck and add it to your hand then give Haste to a Tifa card on the field. If you play it from your hand, only the "A [card With the "Tifa" name in it] that costs 4 or less that you own gains haste. " effect triggers.
I also have a direct question. If you are going to use the special ability of a card, you need to discard a card with the same name. Must that discarded card be in your HAND, can it be on the field or even still in the deck?
Can you form a party to defend from an attack? Or are you limited to one blocker per attacker/party? For example, if someone attacked with a 2000 power forward, could I block it with two 1000 power forwards to kill it? Or if someone attacked with a party of two 2000 power forwards, could I block it with two 2000 power forwards? Also, when forming a party, is there a limit to the number of forwards you can use in that party? For example, you used 2 here, but could I use 3 or more?
You cannot have a party of blockers. Only the attacker can create a party. The attacker party can consist of any number of forwards as long as they are of the same color. For the first strike ability, all cards in the party must have the first strike ability in order to do first strike as a attack party. There are three strategies with responding to a party attack. Strategy one is to let it through as it's only 1 damage and the forwards in the party cannot defend on the next turn. Strategy two is to block with your weakest character, leaving your powerful ones to block additional attacks that turn (or deter the opponent from doing another attack that turn) or use the other forwards to attack on your turn. Strategy three is to block with a forward that has just enough power to kill the opposing forward of your choice. Keep in mind that you can cast a summon when blocking (your dulled characters will ready at the start of your turn and you can still discard cards to get CP to cast summons if you need more CP).
Questions about summons! If I were to use a Cyclops to make the opponent lose 3000 power this turn, can he use 2 Golem to give a certain card the effect or he can only use 1 golem over my cyclops? Still trying to figure out how the summoning stacks stuff on either attack or block works!
Both players can, basically, summon as much as they can afford. The attacking player can use summons/abilities before the attack or when declaring it. The defending player can use summons/abilities before the attack or when blocking. Summons are played and then immediately discarded so your opponent can counter your summon but not really use a golem specifically against your cyclops. Does that help clear it up?
on your opponents turn can you activate cards from your hands if you have the cp for them like in response to a action your opponent does also could you discard cards to give cp on your opponents turn in order to use effects and or activate stuff or summon a blocker
Shame that there's not been a responce to this, to answer it, On your opponent's turn, you may discard cards for 2cp towards summons or abilities. you cannot play characters when doing this however
@@Agniratha thanks for clarifying this, I was confused and curious how it was done when he said give your opponent chance to summon or use abilities; yet he didn't say how the opponent can generate cp.
I've got a question. Your opponent attacks; you elect to block, and are allowed to use a summon to help defend. Do you need to create the CP for the summon, or can you play it straight from your hand?
Julian Gold Yeah you need to raise the CP for any summons or abilities you use in defence. Same for attack which is why it sometimes pays to hold onto s
Hmm, it cut off the end. The rest was "which is why it sometimes pays to hold onto cards in case you need them. You can always spend them again in main phase 2 if it turns out you didn't need them when attacking"
Question about first strike: If the DEFENDER, with lets say 5000 power points, is First Strike, and defends against a party of 2 cards, 4000 and 4000. Would the defender defend everything without problem? Technically, its gonna deal 4000 to one and 1000 to the other, killing the first one right away, and then take only 4000 from the second one, being left with 1000 points?
Once a Forward card is sent to the cemetery, it does not generate crystal points right ? other stupid question.. the card you discard, they generate cristal points only once ? you can not "activate" them like terrain in magic during the next turn right ? thank you for your help
Forwards don't generate CP when killed. The only ways to get CP is dulling a backup or discarding a card. When you discard a card, it generates 2 CP once. You can't "activate" a discarded card to generate more CP.
i have a question on 15:10 you say when a card gets dealt damage the power geos down? is that true or just not not spoken very wlel. When my oppenent has a 5000 atack i use a summon to deal it 2000 Damge, can i block then with my 4000Power unit and my unit will life casue the power of my oppenent gets down to 3000? or did the units just gets destroyed when they get damage equal to theyre power like in all other tcg ?
Are you asking if a reduction in a units health means a reduction in power? Or just not writing your query very well? :) Snarkiness aside I didn't explain that part aprticularly clearly now that I listen back. Summons, abilities and combat deal damage to cards which is carried over until the end of the turn. This doesn't affect their attack power which remains the same. So, in your example, if I had a card with 5000 attack and you used a summon to deal it 2000 damage it has been modified to attack 5000 / health 3000. Then, if I attacked with that card and you defended with a 4000 power unit then both would be destroyed (put in the break zone). My card would deal 5000 damage to your 400 health card and your card would deal 4000 damage to my 3000 health card. Hope that clears it up a little
I absolutely hate that the instructions that came with the game didn't go into more depth of how to use CP. It said how to generate it, but didn't detail how abilities cost is different, how you have to pay to put cards into play, etc. Thanks for the vid.
Quick question I hope it can be answered : when you discard a card for CP does that CP stay with you the entire game and get replenished your next turn or is it just for one turn only for each card discarded for CP??
If I was to discard a wind card; then use a ability that costs 1 wind crystal, does the remainder get wasted or can I use it to summon a 1 crystal card or use another 1 crystal ability?
Can you block witht eh same forward twice? For example, they attack with a 5000, you block with a 6000, then they attack with another 5000. Can you block with the same 6000 and still destroy their second 5000? Does it work like P/T in magic, where the power does not reduce, but the toughness does, or is your 6000 now only going to deal 1000, if it can even block again?
By that point your original 6000 would have 1000 HP (because when it defended the first time it receive 5000 damage). so if you choose to defend with it a second time, it would win and break your opponent 5000 card but it would also break/lose because this time it had 1000HP instead of 6000 HP.
@@AngelusKnight-r6z let´s say you succesfully defende an attack. You are left with 1000hp, that health stays until the card is defeated or it fully recovers hp at the end of the round?
Any number of cards with the Common Soldier icon can in play at the same time. That Common Soldier icon would appear on the top left of the card. It shows 3 cards stacked on top of each other. Typically Common Soldier cards that don't have specific character names on them (ex: Bard, Black Mage, Monk). Two cards with the same name can't be in play at the same time if they don't have the Common Soldier icon. Another thing worth noting: You can only have 1 light card or 1 dark card in play at any time. You cannot have both in play at the same time nor can you have 2 light or 2 dark cards in play at the same time. Discarding light or dark cards don't generate CP. To play them, you can use any color CP.
Can you use summons after you declare an attack but before your opponent declares a defender? Also can you use summons after your opponent declared a defender before damage is dealt?
As an MTG player, I kinda feel bad seeing cards played without sleeves. Does FFTCG has the same size as the MTG cards? Im really interested as soon I see this.
The FF TCG cards have a more "plasticy" feel than the MTG ones so they're more durable. That aside I'm just not a fan of sleeves :) To answer your question they are exactly the same size. Here's a pic to show them side by side - anotherdungeon.com/PublicFiles/MTG-FFTCG.jpg
So say if my card had 9000 power and it attached a card with 6000 power. So does my 9000 now have 3000 power? If so, when does he go back to 9000? Can only one card attack once per turn
I'm not a fan of the card artwork. I figured since this is a simple game coming from a huge franchise and has already been out for the last 5 years overseas then making an English version they would of hired some new artist and create fresh glorious artwork for the English version. Instead they use game art. Game art is fine... in games where it belongs not on a card for a card game. Game art on anything else beside the game itself looks cheesy. The card itself and its design layout is too generic. Not in the sense that it has the same elemental layout as every CCG and TCG card does but how they put it all together. There's no custom elegant frame around the card, on some of the cards they used the same image twice. The picture on the front and a transparent version behind. Others they simply copied and pasted on the card from the game. The description box is just a transparent box with no pop. I find it sad when you got a kickstarter game that can only produce as much as people give in money have far better artwork on their product without any franchise to back them up and is basically a nobody company in the industry, yet they produce a better product visually. Big franchises sometimes cut too many corners. I heard the artwork for this game was great then I saw myself and was really disappointed. I'm not the biggest fr fan but a good card game is a good card game and if it is I'll try it out. If I like it I'll buy it even if the art isn't the greatest. I've yet to try this game but I do want to give it a go. Fantasy is in the damn game name, so there should be some dope fantasy art to look at as you play lol.
I agree 100%. The card stock is nice (feels almost like a plastic back) and, personally, I love the look of the cards with the dual image style - however the lack of consistency and use of game art does feel very lazy... especially coming from a company with a size and fanbase such as Square Enix has! The game itself is really fun but I think, as you mention, the mish-mash card art will prove a deterrent for any considering it who are not FF fans
Agree about the artwork. Characters are just standing there against a white background exuding no charisma. Its boring to me that know what i am seeing so i don`t know how it can appeal to anyone that isn`t familiar with final fantasy. The reuse if in game imagery tries to capitalize on nostalgia but feels lazy. I worry that Squareenix is just making some money with ff but nor really invested in making a great new tcg that can withstand the test of time. i dont think the simplicity of the game( only 3 card types), and the use of the whole forward/support characters system seen it many card games originating from japan (naruto, vanguard, fire embem) are good signs. this said,i would love to see the game be successfull. the first card games i created were based on the final fantasy games
Thankfully they have very much improved the card aesthetic. Still no border or anything, but more original artwork that's framed a bit nicer and more consistently
Somewhat true though I like how the cards can be used as mana resource. It eliminates the mana flood problem in magic and in other similar games with resource as a card type.
I love FF but this game is shit. Waaaaaaay to many things that come into play, more than magic. Game is poorly put together with crystals and all that bs. Bummer was hoping this was cool since I just found out about this
Hey guys I'm trying to get into this too so if anyone has discord and tabletop simulator I'm down. I'm still learning as probably are most of us here but yeah.

Quick question, can you use EX cards without getting damaged like a card?
Sorry I'm not sure what you mean
You can but if the card has two effects, the first won't trigger
Example:
Zangan (from FF7)
EX BURST: When Zangan enters the field, search for a [card With the "Tifa" name in it] and add it to your hand.
Very helpful! Thank you!
Nice! Would be really helpful for you to play through an example game
I'm sure we can arrange that :)

I also have a direct question. If you are going to use the special ability of a card, you need to discard a card with the same name. Must that discarded card be in your HAND, can it be on the field or even still in the deck?
Also (sorry!) there was that "stacking" thing which I just didn't get. Can you shed some light on that?
Sorry for the late reply. I didn't see the notification until just now. Yes, the card must be in your hand
Looks like a fun game.
Can I play summons when defending? If yes can I play the cp cost by discarding a card from my hand or must it be paid from my back ups? ?
Can you party up to defend?
Can you form a party to defend from an attack? Or are you limited to one blocker per attacker/party? For example, if someone attacked with a 2000 power forward, could I block it with two 1000 power forwards to kill it? You cannot have a party of blockers. Only the attacker can create a party. The attacker party can consist of any number of forwards as long as they are of the same color. Keep in mind that you can cast a summon when blocking (your dulled characters will ready at the start of your turn and you can still discard cards to get CP to cast summons if you need more CP).

Questions about summons!

Great! A few days from now it will be sold on our local game store, thanks for the info.
It says on the official rule sheet that a Summons goes into your break zone after you have used it.
Does anyone know if this is correct?
Yes
Do you or your opponent have to reveal 7 cards or reveal cards until the crystal equal 7?
Once a player has 7 cards in the break zone, the game is immediately over. If there is an EX on the 7th card, it does not trigger.
So say if my card had 9000 power and it attached a card with 6000 power. So does my 9000 now have 3000 power? If so, when does he go back to 9000? Can only one card attack once per turn
No, Power and Damage are different
It will still have 9000 power, but only 3000 health left
What is the difference when a card that says damage until end of turn vs a card that just says damage ?
Like in Magic: The Gathering, all damage lasts until the end of the turn.
Can you block with 2 characters?
No. Only the attacker can create a party. You cannot have a party defense.
Anyone here because of that sephiroth playmat?
Traits are almost the the same ones from Magic the gathering
I started playing this a week ago. I thought some of the artworks are not really attractive, but the gameplay is fun and the card quality is good
I'm not a fan of the card artwork.
This has gotten a lot better in recent sets - much more original stuff!
Thankfully they have very much improved the card aesthetic. Still no border or anything, but more original artwork that's framed a bit nicer and more consistently
Oh, so it’s like Vanguard x Yu-gi-oh
More like MTG x Yugioh
This sounds like vanguard?
It's more like Magic than anything else
@@Agniratha with a bit of Naruto TCG
How old is the game
Came out in Aus a few years ago but it's still active and has new expansions

You wouldn't happen to know of a store I can get them from. Do you

Colored Mana. Attacking players directly and having defenders declare blockers....this is Magic. Blatantly Magic.
Somewhat true though I like how the cards can be used as mana resource. It eliminates the mana flood problem in magic and in other similar games with resource as a card type.
this is pretty much vanguard but final fantasy edition
I was thinking about start playing bit it looks awkward to play
This seriously is like magic and vangard together.
Vanguard+Magic+WoWtcg= final fantasy😂
Or Yu-Gi-Oh.
I cringe not seeing cards in sleeves
If I put them in sleeves it makes it harder to write my name on them so I know which are mine!
Another Dungeon this is the best answer I have seen after watching about 1000 card game tutorials! Awesome sauce
Colored sleeves :) Just make sure u get your buddy to buy a different colored sleeve, lol
This game is kind of like magic the gathering
im stupid after watching this i still dont get it
It can be a confusing beast :)
uhm... why cannot ewe use the original card game from ff7?. BS
Triple Triad was in FF8 btw.
U forgot monster cards
I love FF but this game is shit. Waaaaaaay to many things that come into play, more than magic. Game is poorly put together with crystals and all that bs. Bummer was hoping this was cool since I just found out about this
It's basically magic.
Quite different but yeah, most of these trading card games could be compared to MTG in some sense :)
In many ways (like haste/first strike) but the cost of play and ex burst systems are something like what youd find in duel masters/kaijuto
But not run by a crap ass company.
geezzz... how to f up a cool card game.... a simple card game....
it feels like a ripoff of vanguard card game.
Point system seems convoluted and impossible to keep track of. Also the card art is boring, and recycled. Kind of disappointing.
Hey guys I'm trying to get into this too so if anyone has discord and tabletop simulator I'm down. I'm still learning as probably are most of us here but yeah.
