I will admit that the snow did look beautiful but I think I would have had to take a Xanax before being a passenger on that drive. As a life long Michigander you would think I'd be used to it.😁

We always pull over asap when people are behind us and it's safe. Makes for good relations and a lot less concern. Nice photography though

Have you ever looked into a product called "FrostGuard'? It covers the windshield and mirrors so that you don't have to scrape the windshield when it snows or freezes up. I have one and love it.

Winter weather like at the 6:00 minute mark, i always pull my wiper blades off the glass windshield. It protects them and the wiper motor.

    Looks like a nice trip.
Warning: For those with diesel trucks. DO NOT use tow-haul mode and DO NOT engage your diesel exhaust brake when you are on ice and slippery snow. The momentum of your rig can cause a jacknife event under exhaust brake conditions because the trailer brakes are not engaging. Drive extra slow and be soft on the brakes.
Your truck manual likely has this warning written in it.

Love this! You make such great videos. I think the best. You have a wonderful combination of talk and music with all your video. I also have a heated vest. The vest is amazing. Enjoyed watching BO in the snow. I was born in Grand Rapids and moved at 16 (dad got a job in oregon). Also lived in Saginaw. Family in south haven. Thanks for your videos.

Thanks for sharing this story, truly beautiful. I agree regarding the cold, if you dress in layers and hike you stay very warm and comfortable. For your hands, the small hot packs on your palms do a great job. Love seeing Beau in his natural environment, you can see how much he loves playing in the snow and trees.

I'm curious. I know about winterizing an RV for storage, but if you are using one, whether traveling or parking overnight while you stay in a hotel/motel, what do you do about the water in the rig when there is no electric hookup?

This video was like a good meditation, a beautiful, peaceful way to wake up this morning in my own winter wonderland! Love how much time you spend out in nature and also with other people. Also appreciate seeing other older folks who are still very active. I tend to stay away from lifestyles (like rv's) that are dangerous or unsustainable if complicated systems fail, but you both are clearly prepared in your big parkas and wool sweaters. Thank you!!

    • @jennifera4350

You might do well to get warmer, lined boots. Some kind of Sorrel pacs or similar, ie like boots big enough to fit with 2 pairs of wool socks. You'd be surprised how much that warmth that adds to your body. Course when you drive you'll need to take them off! :)

Snow is so pretty….I’ve hiked trails at the Delaware Water Gap in 16 degrees and was actually hot once I got movin! Our water in the NJ pine barrens has the same tannins - forms lots of pretty bogs.
I will be sort of near the UP in May at a birding festival in Magee Marsh, Ohio, but don’t have an RV. Yet.

Mike and Jen hats off to u both. Your braver than me. Not familiar with the driving habits of the Northern Michiganers or how congested the roads. I would never drive a fifth wheel or a TT in snow conditions in the Mid Atlantic region where we live. Drivers are inconsiderate and drive bad enough in dry weather. Snow brings out the worst habits. Enjoy

we are NOT fully seasoned RVers yet, but have made some trips. We currently reside in CO and plan to begin to do much more traveling this year. Husband is concerned about towing our travel trailer over mountain passes in icy and snowy conditions. This trip looked do-able and the advise about going slowly if the road becomes more icy is good and what we plan to do.
BUT, I'm wondering if you have thoughts about high mountain passes as we travel. We'll be going over Monument Pass and Raton Pass on I-25 this week and Husband is thinking of cancelling the trip due to the upcoming snow.
I want to go but I'm not the driver (with good reason)
Please let us know your thoughts. If any of the video viewers see this I'd appreciate the helpful advise. Thank you!

great video. I see others have asked and I am curious too. How do you handle your water and sewage situation? We do have "heat pads on our tanks" and an enclosed underbelly, but does that really cut it? Heating would be no issue when parked, especially if you are in a site with electric, but .... any updates you have on this subject would be greatly appreciated... As always, safe travels......

You two rock! We live in the Midwest and are taking our trailer across country in early November. We don't want to stay months on end but we are concerned about returning when there is ice and snow. . I don't think it's impossible to travel with a trailer in the winter, but we have never done it before, even though we are seasoned RV people (just not in the winter). Is it uncommon for people with travel trailers or 5th wheels to travel in winter like this? Obviously, its not impossible. Your thoughts?

You really should consider a warmer climate during the winter months. Your views of traveling on snowy and icey interstates is very sketchy for elderly and retired folks----it is just plain dangerous!!! I am elderly, and certiainly wouldn't put myself in that situation, and believe me I am very familiar with it----lived in the northeast for over 65 years. Please take care and consider the alternatives!!
