  • On May 5, the Institute of Politics and the Department of History welcomed Academy Award winning filmmaker Oliver Stone, director of films including JFK, NIXON, W. and the upcoming SNOWDEN, to campus. Stone has described his body of work as “controversial versions of recent American history, some of them at deep odds with conventional myth.” The event began with a screening Episode 3 of The Untold History of the United States; which explores the strategies behind the atomic bombings of Japan. After the screening, UChicago professor Bruce Cumings interviewed Mr. Stone and Peter Kuznick, historian and writer of the Untold series. Kuznick is Professor of History and Director of the Nuclear Studies Institute at American University.

On the other hand, we get Soo much trash thrown at US by china- if not SKorea, IT IS a china made: sex toy, blow up doll, et al.
I saw, in a Walgreens in SF a sales fixture- a barrel, with a bunch (12±) of already rusting, cheap steel 'back scratchers' with glittery, sparkling, bright metal flake paint on a bent fork-like piece of BLISTERING painted bimetal, rusting away attached to an oblong piece of wood that was splitting, cracked up- like a piece of driftwood but smooth and about 10" maybe 15" long. "On sale! $3.99" in green, red, blue colors of glittery sparkling paint flaking away, or blistering off the handle that had a weird shape to them- each like nothing I've ever seen before and corroding metal that you were going to scrape against your skin‽ A deal?
      Here, America- buy this one!
We are paying for china's overpopulation so they DON'T JUST ROLL INTO CONFLICT WITH EVERY NATION THEY SHARE A LAND BORDER WITH OR A SEA BODY ACROSS THE WATERWAY (IE, ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WATER). NOW WE AREN'T EVEN GOING TO STOP SUCKING THE PIPE FROM china producing garbage like formaldehyde soaked wood for 'flooring' planks (hardwood floors, quick cured by formaldehyde at season it'll evaporate enough so it passes inspection at the port of entry here. When it doesn't, they take it back to sea & let it air out until it's at the acceptable level for YOUR KIDS TO LAY ON, LICK AT (AS KIDS DO), & BREATHE DEEPLY! UHMMMM AHHH, UMMM AHHHH.
ALSO, I GUESS WE'VE FORGOTTEN HOW TO GROW PEARS AND PEACHES BECAUSE WE'VE BEEN BUYING FKG FOOD FROM china- THAT'S AS FAR AWAY FROM THE USA AS CAN BE TO SOURCE A CAN OF PEARS IN A BIMETAL CAN, WITH A METALLIC TASTE OF THE INGREDIENTS IN THE CAN- OF THE CONTENTS MAKING THE CAN.
DOES THAT MAKE SENSE TO YOU? AT ALL?
THAT'S NOT UNLIKE US BUYING CHERRY TOMATOES FROM OCCUPIED PALESTINE- DID WE FORGET HOW TO GROW CHERRY TOMATOES TO THE POINT OF IMPORTING THEM, A CASE OR TWO AT A TIME FROM WHAT USED TO BE CALLED PALESTINE, WHILE THOSE PEOPLE- WHO NEVER GOT UGLY WITH THE JEWISH POPULATION IN PALESTINE ALL THROUGH WW2. NEVER. BUT ONCE THAT LAND WAS STOLEN & GIVEN TO THESE PEOPLE, THEY TURNED INTO WHAT THEY'RE CRYING ABOUT TREATING THEM WRONGLY.
I'VE A GOOD IDEA THAT STARVING PALESTINIAN PEOPLE COULD EAT CHERRY TOMATOES & THEY WOULDN'T HAVE TO BE FLOWN AROUND THE WORLD TO GET TO THEM EITHER. WHATDYA THINK?

Harry Truman was the launcher of the Korean War, decided to unnecessarily drop 2 atomic bombs on Japan, started the Cold War, refused to assist the Soviet Union after that nation had lost 27 million people and had totally destroyed cities and towns. Truman also started the weakening of the union movement in the US with his support of the Taft-Hartley Labor Law and started the so-called McCarthyism atmosphere as soon as WW2 ended.

Why focus on Japanese war crimes. The war movies and history books produced in the US, UK, etc, aren't likely to report their own atrocities and war crimes. They try to keep them hidden. Their war criminals all live comfortable lives while the people who expose them end up in jail like Julian Assange. Steven Donziger exposed the atrocities caused by Texaco and Chevron in the Amazon and he is now facing a prison sentence.

That was U.S. and NATO propaganda. Russia found out that they'd rather have Capitalism than Communism. Both wars, if you will, had U.S. companies that were heavily vested in them. Same for the military. Testing grounds with REAL targets of steel and flesh and bone. Any conflict involving the U.S., Kuwait and Irag for instance, in the Middle East will involve a very big worldwide product. Oil. And that too, just plain sucks.

We just have better government forced, a little bit more, to listen to the people. The cheap quality we are able to create now through modern machinery is a worry. The argument that after all no one knows about tmrw so why buy quality today if I dead tmrw , is a worry The cabals that exist in corporate head offices is a worry. Given the choice I don’t see why we couldn’t return to old ways. But I will warn, production is hell. Someone has to do those repetitive tasks, sometimes at great speed. Did my time in my own hell. a simple ditty from the band CRASS.
The reality is frighteningly that simple.
Bill Hicks said something similar in a few minutes of standup where two soldiers are casually discussing what effects each type of the many available at hand does what exactly.
    Sick but very amusing.
It's just fireworks to these Soldiers .
I really believe that is how removed a soldier gets.
Of course Drones under Obama the drone king took the disconnect to new levels.
Now the drones have been requested to pick targets so that PTSD doesn't trouble any 9 -5 office worker /soldiers in a tower block in Cleveland.

Talk about UN Permanent Members; the Top Five Countries. Who are they? Do they all possess nuclear bombs? Do they share nuclear researches? Why do they called it the ISS? We are not sheep.

Personally conservative (as appropriate I think, for my age group), I love all our presidents and their wives. This has to do, not with agreement with a package of policy or opinion, but with the fact that, so far, all have preserved the clime in which we watch and are able to benefit from, this video.

I live in China and I can watch this documentary, it seems a low bar. American presidents have been responsible for the indiscriminate killing of millions of people around the world.

Oliver Stone never met a conspiracy theory he didn't like... he made two or three good films (over 20 years ago) and is becoming more and more irrelevant and crazy as time goes by.

He was ousted from Hollywood, for truth telling.. basically he didn't get any jobs for breaking the Hollywood golden rule, of making American sugarcoated movies.
