Your video is just what i needed! I bought a faulty pcb with some broken trails... Is it ok to solder the p12 and p13 directly to the contacts in the same way you did with your custom pcbs? My start and select contacts are fine, but their trails were damaged due to corrosion. Great video by the way!
That should work as long as P12 and P13 are still connected to the CPU. You can use a multimeter to check continuity between the test points and the vias I pointed out to confirm. Good luck!
@@leggomyfroggo my problem is in the trails beetween the button contacts and the cpu. Based on your response i think i will need to repair them somehow.
@@leggomyfroggo i was mistaken about the broken trails. I tested continuity between the probes and the vias as you mentioned and both were fine. Does this means that the buttons should be working or there are other connections involving them that i should be checking? Thank you for your time!
@@samuelfreitas277 If you have continuity between the button contacts and those vias above the cartridge connector, there are two possibilities: 1. The problem is higher up. Above the vias I solder to, there's a duplicate set above that takes the lines back to the CPU side. Check continuity to there. 2. The traces are fine and the issue is somewhere else, like dirty membranes or contacts.
@@leggomyfroggo i found out that all the connections are working fine. The problem is in the old button membranes. They arent conducting energy when they touch the pcb. Thank you for your time, i appreciate it a lot! I'll keep following your work here since I'm just getting into electronics and retro modding. Keep up with the good work!
How does the tactile dpad feel compared to the SP? I'm getting tired of having to push harder for diagonals to work, looking for alternatives and thought this looked cool!
It feels a bit different because of the membranes. Little more travel, little bit of squish, but it still has the solid click, and diagonals feel more sure because of that. I like it and put it in all my GBCs, but of course your mileage may vary.
@@leggomyfroggo Thanks, sounds great! How does it feel with a custom-printed bracket instead of the membranes? Larvesta10 has public files for an adapter compatible with the GBA but unfortunately nothing for the GBC.
@@DisneyTLK110 no access to a 3D printer right now, so haven't been able to do much on that front, unfortunately. When I did have access, I printed what amounts to a shim that goes between the d-pad and membrane that works great in a Pocket, would probably also work in a color. A lot of the squish can actually be eliminated by putting a shim -- I've heard of someone using double sided tape on top of the switch with the top paper left on -- between the switch and the bottom of the membrane, to eliminate the air gap.
Sweet, I may test that out in the future! I’m going to order a set of these PCBs for my project GBC as soon as your Etsy shop is back open. Thanks for the reply!
I’ve got one that the “b” is acting like the start button! Can’t forgive it out? It’s annoying as with any action that takes the b button acts like the start button. When first turned on it doesn’t do it but within a few minutes it start doing it. Can’t figure it out to save my life. It was a board I trimmed the cart pins to use a laminate ips mod on.
@@leggomyfroggo after watching your video it hit me and yes it was exactly what you just said I had somehow shorted out the two via. Just went back and wicked up everything and re soldered my wires and boom work perfectly now. Was installing the q5 laminated kit and doing the wires for the start select function and the b button via is also right next to the start hahaha. Watching your video showing the spots made me think hmm I bet the wires or a tad bit of solder is touching on the back side where you can’t see! Totally was.
Worked great. I had podged this with some copper tape at first, but naturally this works and looks better. Thanks!
Just got my delivery from you of these, cant wait to install them!
Brilliant video, just ordered the flex PCBs!
Thank you for this! I've been looking for a fix for my contacts! You're a life saver!
I lost my b button from battery corrosion. I was able to patch the traces, but its wearing out, I need to get one of these!
This is a really cool way to save corroded boards! Is there anything like this out there for other systems like the GBA?
Awesome thanks, feeling happy of being in the first subscribers!!!
would love this for gba!
I have been looking for a way to fix buttons!

I know this is an old video but, do you still sell these PCBs in your etsy store? It only shows 2 items available and this is not one of them.
I just bought a set last week and it came with the start and select buttons included.
I'm sorry, I bought the tactile buttons. You're right, the set in the video is not available.

Hi, do u still sell these
Anyone done a repair on the B and A buttons that retains the ability to use a power adaptor?
Have you tried installing the FunnyPlaying button led mod over these? Would that be possible you think?
I haven't, but I suspect it would fit(without tac switches), though that sammich is probably getting to the upper range of workable thicknesses.

Do you have anything soldered to the button vias? Start and B are right next to each other, and if you short them, that's going to happen.
