We had an API console in Channel One studio in Jamaica, nothing has ever matched the playback sound from it, the guy who owned it, a Chinese Jamaican, used to say to me " its a Godley Sound ". Any recordings done there were and still are instantly recognisable.
I worked on api consoles several times over the years, as well as other major boards, and api has always been my favorite. When it comes to my own studio though, i cannot afford one and i have to work in the box. Thankfully, api and UA came out with their Vision console emulation for Luna and, although it's not the same thing, it gives me a satisfactory slice of that experience.
@@RealHomeRecording I mean - anything is better than plugins at this point... And something affordable with API parts, would be sweet. I would love a 1608 but I don’t have 50k for a home studio monster LOL 😂 Surely they can come up with something.
@@TheSteveKinney That's what the 500 series and The Box is all about. But yeah if you want 16 channels of API preamps and equalizers you're going to pay for it! That's why I'm personally looking at probably just getting two channels maybe four. The API preamp alone is a great investment from what I hear. That's if you are earning a living from audio engineering that is!
@@RealHomeRecording I mean. I’m already earning a living from it - just don’t have 30-60k to drop on a console LOL 😂 And they definitely could make something’s more affordable. There are a LOT of designers who swear by API and recreate their circuits at affordable prices.... looking at you CAPI.. I’m not asking for their console recreated to be cheap. I’m asking them to create a new design, something that makes sense for the format.. it’s totally possible. That said - I do love their 500 series stuff for sure. And I think it’s at a great price. They are the standard for everyone else to meet. Just wanna see them venture and create something new. I guess they don’t have to - but it would be really cool. SSL, neve - they’ve done it and are trying it - why not API, I bet they would out do everyone. Just my two cents. Cheers brotha!
The console does look great, I think the end of the day it doesn't matter what console you use if the mixes sound good to people that's the important thing. But for me it would definately be Neve 5088.

Chad is such a cool dude. He has done fantastic work with John. Also, API Audio is just a pleasure to work with. Thanks for the video!
That’s JUST the board for demos. Guys livin the dream
Would be SICK if API put out an answer to the BIG SIX.
Great idea!
And outsource product duplication to China? No thanks!

Just get both
Dear API. Could you do a video on integrating a 1608 (5.1 console) into an ATMOS mixing setup?
very cool, but the real miss here was playing music from Sob Rock using the API.
Nothing beats an API. Nothing.
Amazing man 👌
I dont understand anything but i understand
Hi API. Why aren’t you communicating with your customers you have 5.1 consoles so you can print stereo and surround in one go?
Super interesting choice
Yeah those intro riffs, typical JM haha
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
