My sentiment, exactly. It is our money, so we are the final judges on what we like. Everyone has different things they like. If you like it and it falls within your budget, get it. WT101 is something that the wife won't object to at that price point. I've had more expensive Bourbons that didn't give me the same Price-Value Ratio as WT101. It is nice to splurge, now and then, but for an everyday drinker, WT101 is fine.
These distillery reviews are awesome! As a very much new beginner it is great to see and hear the differences in the lineups rather than being confused at the store!

I know this is youtube channel but im sure that the both of you cherish the time and fun that you both have together more than the drinks, and it shows. Keep up the awesome work on the channel and enjoy your time together gentleman! Thank you!
Please don't drink every day because it can creep up on you, it happened to me.Now if I drink I use a measured shot glass and I pour in what I want to drink, then let it rest a few minutes, take a sip then add ice cubes and or a little water and if I want more I have another half a shot.No such thing as a daily drinker unless a person wants to die of organ failure.
Here in Chicago I picked up a bottle of Rare Breed for $57 and Russel's 10 for $35 this week. Really liked the Rare Breed but I think it'll taste better on ice as noted. Thanks for the recommendations, Kurt! Keep 'em coming!
Great video, thank you. Matthew McConaughey had a Very heavy hand in the Longbranch creation and while Eddie Russell reeled him in a bit when he wanted to add things that they didn't agree with, he helped create a unique and flavorful, entry level product. He wasn't one of the many that simply slapped their names on a product to make a buck; I give him credit for that.
Recently started drinking RareBreed because of your recommendation and it’s my absolute favorite now. Thank you for that! Also picked up Russell’s 10 year and Single Barrel and love them both as well. Would like to know more about the Kentucky Spirit and the differences in warehouses. I’ve seen A and B but haven’t pulled the trigger. The flavor profile of E sounds right up my alley. Would love to see or hear more about Kentucky Spirit if you had a different warehouse to compare.
My local store always seems to have Longbranch for $30-32. The other prices you mentioned seemed on par with what I’ve seen. I really enjoy Longbranch. It’s milder because of the lower proof but it’s still quite full in flavor. I agree with the evaluation of it being sweeter with notes of honey.
Just picked up a bottle of the rare breed tonight from watching one of your other videos. Thanks for the knowledge you share due to me being a beginner in the bourbon world. Keep making these great videos I will definitely keep watching!!!
I have RR SiB, KS, RB (bourbon and rye), and 101 on hand pretty much at all times. Same with Knob Creek, the 9 l, the 12, the SiB, the rye, and occasionally the 15. I've been drinking the WT and KC lines for 25 years with only occasionally diversions until the last 5 years when a friend and my BiL started introducing me to the wider world of whiskeys. Now I probably have too much bourbon, rye and Scotch but I'll always have WT and KC.
One of my grandfathers turned me on to WT over 50 years ago and I have never looked back! I have not tried the entire line-up yet, but thanks to this review and the knowledge that Jimmy and Eddie would not let an inferior product go out the door, I feell safe in branching out! Excellent review! Thank you!
I dont know if id say jimmy and eddie would not let a bad bottle out. Ive heard people say they got bad bottles of russells 10. Kurt just said he got bottles of kentucky spirit that werent so good. I have a russells single barrel store pick thats not all that great. Especially for $82-83. The regular russells single barrel is better, especially for $20 less
Spot on reviews. For me, Rare Breed is the best value in bourbon. Period. It competes with (and is often better than) bottles 2-3x it’s price. WT101 is a staple everyone should have. It’s one of the best bottles under $30. I have a store pick of Russels SB and it’s excellent, although maybe not as high a value as the Rare Breed and 101.
Just opened a bottle of Kentucky Spirit last night. I enjoyed it. After hearing what you said about certain warehouses, I had to check. Mine was bottled on 7-26-21, from barrel # 2536, warehouse E, and rick #11.
RB > 101 > all the others. I think the Longbranch is underrated and over looked because it has a celeb attached to it. Also, it's only 86 proof. At 33$ in OR the price isn't too bad.. It doesn't have the rye kick that 101 has so it makes a good beginners bourbon for someone coming from sweet cocktails and rum drinks. The KY Spirit is $65 and more or less a single barrel version of 101. WT is probably my fav overall distillery. The 101 Rye works so well in cocktails.
No time to discuss the rye WT ryes but they are good! Price was my biggest issue with Longbranch. If you can purchase for closer to 30.00 and the proof is in your wheelhouse I think that’s a win!
I'm going to have to revisit Russells reserve, I have only got one bottle and I feel maybe I got a meh pick. Mine just seems like I get so much ethanol/heat upfront I can't really get any flavors. And I really enjoy barrel proof bourbons the most so I'm not afraid of a little burn. My other problem is Rare Breed which I Absolutely Love is about $48 in my area but RR has climbed to $70 at total wine. So I can get about 1.5 bottles of rare breed for same price. I think WT101 is best value in bourbon,I have been getting 1.75L of it for as low as $30, I drink it neat and it's my bourbon for cocktail drinks . Last thanks for the fun fact about Warehouse E! Every review of kentucky spirit is usually not a great one so I have never bothered picking one up.
The Russell's single barrel is leaps and bounds over Russell's 10 , and better than rare breed imo.. it cost a little more ,but damn it man worth every penny..
Just moved to Bardstown about a year and a half ago and have been getting back into the bourbon game ever since. Picked up the Turkey Rare Breed today for $51 at the local Kroger liquor store. It's a win Just for the flavor on its proof damn good bourbon. I've been digging hard into 1792 since it's local and Turkey Rare costs a bit more but will be putting it into the mix.
Okay I’ve had 3 of them 101, Russell’s 10 & Long branch. Russells 10 is an all time fav as is Longbranch. Got a bottle of Russell’s 10 on clearance at my local CVS for $25.95!! At my local quality liquor store (Mission) in Pasadena CA Longbranch is $32.95 and Rare Bred is $69.95 I’m 5’ 5” and 150 lbs and anything much over 100 proof puts me out after a couple oz’s. I find the Longbranch at a lower proof is a very tasty sipper, especially for the price. Also read up on how Matthew McConaughey came to work with the Russell’s to develop this bourbon. Interesting collaboration. There’s a video on You Tube about it.
I absolutely did like the Longbranch flavor profile just thought for 40.00 it was just overpriced. Closer to 30.00 the better! I like the way you pinpoint what you like and for the reasons you like it. Kudos to you!
I had not seen this video before today and I am watching it as I am enjoying Longbranch. I like it and will buy it again. You feel it is a beginner bourbon but higher priced than one. I had tried many bourbons (not as many as you) and I don't knock it as beginner. But, as you say, different palettes do come into play. I did make note that the 3 lower priced ones are worth buying again and I will get the Rare Breed that I have not done so previously. Thanks for this video!
@@slbdrinks It's not a knock on you guys. I know your preference is in the higher proof ones and anything lower than 100 is going to be categorized a certain way. That's okay. I have heard your upper limit is 120 - 130. And I get that as it's nothing but burn.
I've just started drinking Bourbons this year. I started with Buffalo Trace at Christmas and have just finished the bottle. I really enjoyed it and plan to buy more since in the UK it's only £20 a bottle. I'm onto a bottle of Wild Turkey 101 now and I have to say, what a step up from Buffalo Trace that is. I have bought a bottle of Rare Breed but for £54 a bottle I'm keeping that for special occasions. I want to try Four Roses, Makers Mark and Old Forester as they're all affordable like Buffalo Trace. £20-£25.
I was given a bottle of WT101 8 year as a present. This bottle has to be at least 30 years old, it had a tax stamp! Best bourbon I've ever tasted. I wonder if a modern bottle of QT101 tastes the same?
@@slbdrinks I will pick up a bottle of WT 101 next time I go to the liquor store and will let you know! Had two fingers of the 30 year old WT 101 last evening and yes, it is the best bourbon I've ever tasted!
@@slbdrinks Update: picked up a new bottle of WT101 and compared it to the 30 year old bottle. The new bottle is not quite as good as the 30 year old bottle, but it is still an excellent bourbon.
I keep several bottles of all of these except the Longbranch, the 86’er, and Kentucky Spirit (can’t get it in PA). The 101 rye and RR 6 rye are also mainstays in my cabinet
After that sip-a-thon, I’ll BET you had a good time!! Thanks for this fast moving, yet thorough tour of the WT lineup. As a 2 year beginner, I’ve yet to purchase a bottle from this line. Will so soon enough.
I currently have 101, rare breed, and single barrel. Agree with all of your points. Rare breed is a no brainer. Never had Kentucky spirit but I will defintiely look for warehouse E next time I'm out.
I don't know if a year has made the difference or not but we just got a Kentucky Spirit from wharehouse A (before we knew about E) and wow is it ever so good!!!
I have them all except the basic WT & the Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit Single Barrel. IMO the Rare Breed at 116.8 proof and (said to be) six, eight, and twelve year at $51.99 and the Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit Single Barrel 101proof and aged between 8.5 and 9.5 years at $59.99 puts the Rare Breed on the counter every time whenever Im at the liquor store looking for WT, with the RB you know what you are getting "every time" you get a bottle as with the nature of the beast with any single barrel if you really enjoy it you better savor it because you just dont know if you will find another you like as much? Great review as always guys 🥃Cheers!
Great review!...very helpful to decide which Wild Turkey to try next. I currently am loving the 101...next up will be either Rare Breed or Russell's Reserve Single Barrel. So much whisky out there to try...on a budget, it's reviews like these which really assist in narrowing down the next pic.
Great Video. I love your distillery reviews. Of the seven bourbons reviewed, I am unclear as to which you would drink regardless of cost. Which one of these is your favorite? I'm 70 years old. Grew up in New Orleans when the legal drinking age was 18. I did not develop a taste for "sippin" bourbon "neat", until my youngest son gave me a bottle of Jefferson's reserve (very small batch) for my 65th birthday. At this point in my life I want to find the best bourbons out there for my taste. So I watch this type of video to try to glean what I might REALLY like. Since trying my 65th birthday present and discovering the wonderful complex tastes of bourbon "neat"; I have watch various videos discussing the various aspects of many bourbons. The way you do it is as if you and I are sitting at your bar discussing and sharing bourbons. I like that. Looking forward to more Distillery review videos. That Buffalo Trace bourbon that can be seen behind you at your left elbow . . . . . is my current favorite of all bourbons. It is hard to get here in north Georgia.
Thank you sir for taking the journey with us! Wild Turkey 101 is the best bargain in bourbon imo. Past that I would say the Russels Reserve single barrel is my favorite of the group.
Hey Kurt! We had this bourbon share tonight in Dyer, IN! If you want, we can let youknow of the next one, and maybe you, Trenton, and Michelle can join us! Wish I could share the pic, but Russell Reserve 10y was in the mix!
Recently puchased RR10 not too long ago. DE-Lic-OUS! And for $35....shut the front door!! I tell all my whiskey & bourbon drinking friends to pick up a bottle. Have had the 101 and enjoyed it. Looking to try Rare Breed soon. Have heard very good things about it.
A newcomer to bourbon, I’ve been drinking 101 for awhile now as a daily, Rare Breed occasionally. I like both a lot, but thanks to this review I picked up a jug of Russell’s Reserve 10yr today. You and Trenton are SO right! I’m beginning to think that Russell family really knows what they’re up to.
Love Wild Turkey! I use 101 for cocktails, and Russel Reserve 10yr is one of my favorite bourbons I’ve had, and at 30-35 a bottle it’s become my standard daily drinker
I was lucky enough to work with Jimmy and Eddie ❤ for a few years. Your review is spot on! Watching it made me miss those days, actually visiting warehouse E.
I like the 101 and I’m cool with mixing the traditional 81 proof but for the life of me I cannot drink the Russell’s 10. There’s something off on the taste for me. I’ve given a try on multiple occasions but can’t do it. Nice review.
Awesome tip about the Kentucky Gentleman. I've actually been to the distillery (twice), taken the tour, and this is the first time I've heard to look for warehouse E. Of course now we have to go back again and find that rickhouse!
Wild Turkey 101 is my default bourbon, but, these days, I think the $22 price tag is only if you can find it on sale (the standard sale price near me is $24, with the shelf price being $26). I think Wild Turkey 81 is primarily for mixing drinks (and to have a full line to promote to bartenders) and not for drinking on its own. I made a bottle of 50-50 WT 81 and WT 101 so that I would have the right proof (91) for making Mint Juleps and Whiskey Smashes for the Kentucky Derby. Longbranch is probably intended to compete with Basil Hayden's, which is not a connoisseur's whiskey, either. And I think Kentucky Spirit is intended to be purchased as a gift and not for personal consumption.
Had to look up this video to comment. Normally do not see Russell’s Reserve around here for some reason. Grabbed a sandwich at a small variety store and liquor was in back. Mostly cheap 18-30 bottles but in corner a small shelf with several really nice bourbons include 3 reserves. Since I never have tried it grabbed a bottle for $60 usd
I had my first experience with Wild Turkey tonight before watching your review. Luckily I picked up a bottle of the Rare Breed and was blown away by how good it was. Can't go wrong with Rare Breed.
I love the 101 as my daily sipper. I have tried others (Angels Envy, Elijah Craig, Woodford Rye) and I enjoy them but I always end up back with the 101. Now that it is turning winter I occasionally add a cinnamon stick for added spice. Great review. Keep up the good work.
Infinity Bottle! You mentioned your infinity bottle. How about a video discussing the selection, feeding, and care of the infinity bottle? And thanks for the Wild Turkey tour.
101 and Russell's 10 have been staples for me for a while. Long Branch I doubt I'll buy again because it just didn't appeal. I really need to try that Rare Breed because everyone seems to love that stuff.
That's unfortunate news on the Kentucky spirit. A friend of mine sent me a picture of it recently saying it was the best whiskey he has had from wild turkey. I got him a bottle for his birthday next month. After watching your video I went to his picture and sure enough his friend bottle he tried was warehouse E. The one I got is CN-F which means it wasn't even aged on the same campus as warehouse E. Hopefuly it holds up.
Perfect timing as always. I picked up my diet bottle of Rare Breed this week, and I’m very impressed. Everything about it is top notch, even the price, for $46 at my local store ain’t bad!
I just recently got a Russells single barrel store pick from total wine. Its ok. For $82-83 its a bit of a let down. Think the regular single barrel for $60-65 is better. The store pick jus has an off note to it. I have rare breed rye which i really like. Kind want to get a Kentucky spirit single barrel. Thanks for the heads up on warehouse E.
Ive put the Russell’s 10 in a few blinds and it always ranks high. It’s been my go to for over a year now! I would recommend blinding it against eagle rare and the McKenna 10yr bib, it was a fun “Battle of the Ten Years’.
I'm not sure how much difference a year makes but we just picked up a Kentucky Spirit from Wharehouse A (it was our first one of KS) and wow is it ever good! We did a blind against Russle Reserve, Masters Keep (the rye blend) and Rare Breed. I had a feeling what would win going in and I was correct. KS eaked out the win over Masters Keep and Rare Breed and Russles was a distant 4th for me. I've yet to find a bottle of Russles I particularly care for though. The KS is so good I plan to hunt for more of it now!
Nice video, fun to watch as I remembered some previous pours and looked at my tasting notes. Wild I was not crazy about 81 proof. Not crazy about Russell's 10, thought it was watery thin in taste and mouth feel. The price point put me off as well, for what I was tasting. I liked Kentucky Spirit, but I had an older bottle that sat on my shelf for years. Rare Breed is my favorite Turkey product. Turkey 101 is one of the best values inside and out of Bourbon. Haven't had Longbranch or Russell's Reserve.
And this is where we will differ my friends! I have never been a Wild Turkey fan. I have had a Russell's Reserve 10 that I liked, and one that I didn't, so that is is up in the air.
The answer to your title question is, of course, "Yes." Same with "Is Old Forester worth the money?" Yes. I find WT to have a very straight-ahead bourbon profile and OF to have a sweeter, creamier profile. I have been drinking a 50/50 blend of WT101 and OF100 for a while now, a crushable sipper with the best of both worlds. I am going to try 50/50 Rare Breed and OF 120 next for a little more robust experience.
Just bought and tried the Russell’s Reserve 10 year. I like mine over a little ice. Head over heels love the taste. Had an old fashion with this bourbon and it was great. I did get a hint of oak on the back end, I will definitely buy this again. Thanks for the recommendation.
I'm relatively new here, so I'm working my way through the videos, but this one was extra fun because I have all five available to me. I will eventually try them all.
I just realized you have over 50k subscribers now! Congrats and well deserved!! Great comparison. RRSiB is $43 in my neighborhood. It's my daily - so good!
I took my first taste of Wild Turkey Bourbon 101 during the New Year and ii was All Right... Matter of fact I'm having a little sip tonight. Guess I will have a bottle next to my Wild Turkey Rye 101.
I quit buying the 101 because I'm a whiskey snob now, but Rare Breed, Russell's Reserve 10 and Single Barrel are always on the shelf. I'm not a rye person usually, but the Rare Breed Rye is not bad either.
My very first Bourbon was Wild Turkey. It was a nice taste for me. It may have hooked me then. Now I consider myself a Bourbon lover and enjoy sipping great Bourbons. This one is great.
On vacay, brough 12 bottles with us & gonna blind that single barrel against the 13 (found one for $70, straight MSRP!) and see how it goes. Thanks for the inspiration!
The look you gave Trenton when he said he has never tasted Russell Reserve 10yr almost made me spit my coffee out!!!!
Lol what was up with that??!
@@slbdrinks Sorry to let more family disappoint but I haven’t had it either. 🤦🏻 I have all but the Longbranch and the 10yr.
What????!! Shame…
Same lol

I really appreciate your opinions, I love this brand as well. Hard to beat the 101 and the Rare Breed.
Agree - Longbranch is a different story, wont be buying that again.
Russell’s single barrel does beat it though
IMO Wild Turkey bourbons are some of the best values out there, period. They’re fantastic and the prices are very reasonable.
Agree 101%

Glad you enjoy Longbranch! Far be it from me to say otherwise!
@@slbdrinks It's not a knock on you guys. I know your preference is in the higher proof ones and anything lower than 100 is going to be categorized a certain way. That's okay. I have heard your upper limit is 120 - 130. And I get that as it's nothing but burn.
Wild Turkey 101 is my favorite mixing whiskey and I'd say Russell's Reserve Single Barrel is as good of a sipper as I have on my bar.
I commented on the “only keep 5” videos that a fun idea would be only keep 1 distillery. Wild Turkey would be mine! Great episode.
Great choice!
I was given a bottle of WT101 8 year as a present. This bottle has to be at least 30 years old, it had a tax stamp! Best bourbon I've ever tasted. I wonder if a modern bottle of QT101 tastes the same?
Boy what a treat to have experienced that bottle! Would have no idea if it would taste the same or not but would love to hear your opinion!
101 goes in my book as a top bang for the buck. A must keep on the shelf
We don't get any Russells or WT single barrel offerings so I go with WT101 and Rare Breed. Both are winners in value and medium complexity categories.
Both fantastic picks and best bang for the buck!
Had the Longbranch. It was a little softer on the taste, but nice. I did pick-up a second bottle to make a final yeh or nay.
I did enjoy the pour but just thought it was a bit overpriced.
Meijer around central Indiana have that Russell’s 10yr on sale right now for around $30. I stocked up!!
Another great show! Thanks for your advice!! Love Wt 101..my daily sipper! Keep up the great work guys
Great review!...very helpful to decide which Wild Turkey to try next. I currently am loving the 101...next up will be either Rare Breed or Russell's Reserve Single Barrel. So much whisky out there to try...on a budget, it's reviews like these which really assist in narrowing down the next pic.
The answer? Absolutely! WT is IMO the best, accessible distillery.
RR single barrel is sooo good!
Crazy viscosity on that stuff and a sublime mouth feel!!
Sounds like fun! You can get me on Instagram or FB messenger or email Trent at SLBdrinks @gmail.com.
got longbranch on sale for 27 in CA, cant complain at that price, but agree with what you were saying
That’s a great price!
I am the rare exception then on Kentucky Spirit; I absolutely love the stuff!
That’s awesome! Nothing wrong with that! I do enjoy the bottle I have now.
I think that’s the logical step in your case. Hope you love it!
I think they do lol!
My 3 Favorite WT products are Russell's Reserve single barrel, Rare Breed and RR 10 yr. I also always have 101 🥃!!
Heck ya!
Just tried the Rare Brees and all I can say is WOW. I'm not a bourbon expert but the Rare Breed just took my number 1 spot
Love Wild Turkey! I use 101 for cocktails, and Russel Reserve 10yr is one of my favorite bourbons I’ve had, and at 30-35 a bottle it’s become my standard daily drinker
I had the old flat bottle of Kentucky Spirit, it was excellent.
Ya I loved that bottle!
As a beginner in whiskey buying. You guys are the bomb! I have taken your suggestions and had nothing but fun.
There is a tobacco or bitter note towards the finish so I can see how that would turn some off. Keep drinking what you like!
Great idea mixing the 101 and 81 for cocktails!
Another great video! Hope to see this style of video with Buffalo Trace products.
Yes!
Will have to try some ,had a regular wild turkey and really liked it,never had bourbon before as I normally drink scotch 😊
Probably best bourbon review finally someone who actually enjoys drinking bourbon
Same same
Rare Breed is my favorite bourbon (thanks dad), but for an 86 proof party night bourbon Longbranch is just fine. On sale at my local for 38.00.
Much better price than what I see here. Good for you!
Infinity Bottle! You mentioned your infinity bottle. How about a video discussing the selection, feeding, and care of the infinity bottle?
And thanks for the Wild Turkey tour.
Great idea I have to say!
Thanks for doing this distillery review series. Very informative.
Early in my bourbon quest, Rare Breed is by far one of my all time favorites!
Great choice!
Failed to say thank you Kurt. This was one of your best videos.
Thanks so much!
I just grabbed wild turkey 101 and really enjoy it. I'm a bourbon and Coke guy and it's pretty good
Awesome video once again! WT products are one of my favorites!
Perfect timing as always. I picked up my diet bottle of Rare Breed this week, and I’m very impressed. Everything about it is top notch, even the price, for $46 at my local store ain’t bad!
Not at all! One of the Best Buys in bourbon imo.
@@slbdrinks it really is! It's so soo tasty!
Finally found a bottle of Rare Breed. About $68, but it is the only bottle I have found in the area. Love it.
Awesome! I love the reviews of a full product line!
Going to check out the single barrel for the warehouse if mine is different I will go looking for a warehouse E , so thanks for the info
The one I have now is pretty darn good! My last one, not so much.
Yep. Totally agree with you guys, that RRSiB is fantastic.Always a buy for me when I see it.
Battle of the 10 yrs! I like it!
cool!
I was lucky to discover 101 early in my journey. Has been my go-to for 15 years or so.
There are some that do not like the 10 yr. IMO if the 10 yr would be 50.00 it would be a no go for me. Good option at its current price point.
And this is where we will differ my friends! I have never been a Wild Turkey fan. I have had a Russell's Reserve 10 that I liked, and one that I didn't, so that is is up in the air.
No worries here my friend! Stick with what you love! That’s what it’s all about!
Love that blend idea!
Just bought and tried the Russell’s Reserve 10 year. I like mine over a little ice. Head over heels love the taste. Had an old fashion with this bourbon and it was great. I did get a hint of oak on the back end, I will definitely buy this again. Thanks for the recommendation.
Excellent! Glad you liked it!
Thanks for being with us for the long haul!
RRSB for that price is a steal! Enjoy!
I took my first taste of Wild Turkey Bourbon 101 during the New Year and ii was All Right... Matter of fact I'm having a little sip tonight. Guess I will have a bottle next to my Wild Turkey Rye 101.
WT101 is regularly $20-22 where I shop. And it’s damn hard to beat. Like it more than quite a few bourbons that are double the price.
I quit buying the 101 because I'm a whiskey snob now, but Rare Breed, Russell's Reserve 10 and Single Barrel are always on the shelf. I'm not a rye person usually, but the Rare Breed Rye is not bad either.
Nice! I do love the Wild Turkey Master's Keep, but for the price I'd pick Basil Hayden 10 year over the Russel 10
Been quite a while since I had a pour of the BH10. Need to check that again.
I keep Russels 10 yr, WT101 & Rare Breed stocked!!
Holy cow good for you on the 13!! Plz let me know what you think of it.
