I recently got these scales for my Native 5 LW. That knife feels amazing now! Real premium. My Manix 2 LW scales will be here tomorrow. Can’t wait to feel that transformation.
The OEM scales are pretty thin, hence the LW designation. Good video. Gonna pick up AWT scales for both of my Manix 2s. I just ordered of GPKnives REx 45 versions.
Just got mine. Still trying to decide what color AWT scales to go with. I’m leaning towards the burnt bronze against that black M4 blade. Wish the scales weren’t $100 though. I’ve got several knives wearing AWT scales, and I love them, but the Manix 2 LW scales are the most expensive for some reason.
If you’re using the knife like it should be used, even to the point of hard use, the FRN handles will never fail you. I don’t think that’s an accurate representation of its strength. You can do that with pretty much any of the “plastic” handle materials.
The frn breaking is not really surprising, you’re bending the thing. They both broke in the same spot on the scales though so there is a weak spot. I doubt that would happen if they were on the knife. I preordered the og scales for my manix but still wanna try awt.
I only ever go with AWT scales Got a PM2, Para 3, Bugout, Mini Presido 2, Native 5LW, Mini Adamas. If they offer the oversized washers with the model you're looking to upgrade get those as well. does wonders for blade play. The company is legit one of the greatest scale makers out there.
Awesome Manix 2 Wayne! Trying to decide between these and the Original GOAT scales for mine in rex45. I do like how the OG have some extra grip at the bottom of handle for fidgeting.
cant wait to get my manix 2 curwear to mod when it drops. going for a forrest green flytanium ball cage and thats it. in the long run may rit dye the micarta scales. but gotta wonder and wait until she drops.
Totally changes the manix 2 in a lightweight with some her premium scales that feel pretty darn good . This and the GP rex45 lightweight are my favorite manix 2 s . I tried a deep clip then went with a ripps style titanium clip and she’s perfect . Them screws they make are top shelf too , well done . They make the spyderco ones look bad , lol
What!!? Didn't know these would work with the LW. I have AWT aluminum scales on my S30V g10 manix and did not know they would work. Hell I even took my MagnaManix apart and from what I can remember the piece around the ball cage was shorter/ different. Heck, I been waiting for OGoat to get their scales ready. That's fantastic to know because I agree with you these scales put the Manix in my top 3! Wish u would have done an install video.
does the cage ball handles feel like its shorter when pulling down than with stock scales? That's the only way i can explain. It's like its missing a bit of room pull down a just tad bit more.,
I just got a satin Rex45 manix 2 Lightweight from GPKnives. I want to do charcoal grey scales with bronze hardware (when the hardware's available in the future)
@@shaggy_e210 I took an adjustable wrench and put the screws in with the tip up, and heated them like that. Doesn’t take long either. Was going for a “Industrial Heat” like Lynch clips but they kinda bronzed.
I (somehow, it’s kind of embarrassing 😂) have never owned a Manix 2 but stumbled across the gpknives satin Rex 45 model the other day and grabbed one. I haven’t owned one but always wanted one, and thought they are the best value for money Spyderco offers. For some reason they let these go so much cheaper than other models. The Rex LW is less than $130. You barely get Seki stuff for that, the k390 stuff is more! So USA made knife in a (hopefully) awesome steel for $125 is a steal these days. I’m ready to see what this thing is about tomorrow.
FRN I’m amazed at how cheap and brittle I’m supprised Spyderco would cut costs like that ! I just started collecting Spyderco knives and I will not buy no frn scales
FRN scales are for their LW versions. For the vast majority of knife owners, they’ll last the life of the blade. Can you break them? Sure, you can break anything. Will they break under normal/everyday use? Absolutely not. Seems like you just don’t like LW knives. Lucky for you, they offer plenty more over built and robust knives. The fact that they try to appease all of their customers by offering various styles of the same knife is great.
That's because they are just junk plastic ! All those plastic scales with glorified names are cheap junk ! Just another cost cutting scam , thanks for sharing bro ! From Florida 😮

I’ve been thinking about getting new scales for my rex45 manix 2 lw
Me too!

I have the Rex 45 version and really like the look of the white FRCP. You may change your mind.
@@R4NDLLthey do look cool. I bought 2 by mistake so I may keep one stormtrooper and buy 1 set of AWT scales.
@@MrBowser2012 I misunderstood. One of each will be very cool!
Not a big fan of FRCP, but I love the Manix 2 and I wanted to try some Rex 45.@@R4NDLL
@@akquicksilver It's a lot better than the FRN, that's for sure. Enjoy the Rex 45, it's terrific steel!
I did this with the BladeHQ Exclusive Spyderco Manix 2 in CPM M4.
Me too!

Any difficulty freeing the body screws on the FRCP handles? Im trying my best not to strip the screws on this swap
@@Alexjaeger1024 The new LW is better. I got a doner Manix 2 and used those parts. Expensive way to get it done.
The Native5 scales are very epic by AWT
I have a set on my Magnacut native. Holy shit they're great 🤘🏻
Applied Weapons Tech 😃

There wasnt that much strength applied to break those is what made me so curious
Just did the red awt on my spy27 second. Agreee, Very nice upgrade and much better color.
I'm gonna buy some for my Manix in Rex 45, just gotta decide on the color! Edit: I went with brick red
Years ago, I had filed down my Manix 2 scales, for a better fit. This one intrigues me, esp in Mag.
The frn breaking is not really surprising, you’re bending the thing. They both broke in the same spot on the scales though so there is a weak spot. I doubt that would happen if they were on the knife. I preordered the og scales for my manix but still wanna try awt.

Very nice knife. Thank you very much for sharing.

Much better then the stock scales. I just think they look plastic cheap, the stock ones
The lightweight Manix 2 in magnacut is out of stock everywhere but I'm hoping to scarf one up when they're available again.
I went with Original Goat scales for my Manix 2 LW. Pre-ordered so they’re about a month out.

No problem 👍
Like the looks of the scales, will check out some for my Rex45 LW. Thanks for sharing Wayne!
You bet 👊🏼

There are lw and reg versions now. The cage back spacer piece is different. Make sure you get the proper scales.
@manuelacosta4495 OH ok.. I must have the older version. I bought the purple aluminum for my regular g10 manix. Thanks!

Maybe a little.
That would look better with the black coated blade
It's sweet! Would love to do a similar build!
Go for it!
My MLW has BD1-N steel.
How does yours have MC steel?
Edit: oh, it’s the Salt series.
I just got a satin Rex45 manix 2 Lightweight from GPKnives. I want to do charcoal grey scales with bronze hardware (when the hardware's available in the future)
You can “bronze” the hardware with a small butane lighter. I did a set on one of my Native Chiefs and they came out good 👍🏻
@@DuhYaThink I'm halfway tempted to do that for the time being, I'm also worried about overheating it and running the risk of stripping hardware.
@@shaggy_e210 I took an adjustable wrench and put the screws in with the tip up, and heated them like that. Doesn’t take long either. Was going for a “Industrial Heat” like Lynch clips but they kinda bronzed.
Manix LW scales are FRCP not FRN. They do feel different than say a Para 3 LW

What the hell does “clutch” mean? Is that what the kids are saying now?
What a great sacrifice of an FRN scale for science. 😂 We all got to see how easy they break.

Going to put a Magnacut Blade on my Rockscaledesign scales 🤌
