I wish the handle material was like the chaparral. Tai Chung does the lightweight handles much much better imo. Wish I got the G-10 Manix 2 instead of the LW.

I have a sage 5 lw and it is flawless but the handle does have a smoother less grippy texture and my dry old man hands slide on it but not with my manix 2 lw it has deeper more emphasized grip grooves that lock my hand in. I love both knives of course but might need some g10 on my sage 5 and don't feel the need to upgrade the manix.

@@DustinFlu interesting, I have a Sage 5 lw black and a Manix 2 lw translucent blue. The Sage is way grippier, the Manix is much smoother. Maybe the translucent scales are a different texture. I don’t like it at all, feels cheap and the checkering is too much. Perhaps the solid color Manix lw has a different texture. The Sage feels nice. Having said that, the G10 models feel far superior imo.

One drawback for me on the manix LW is the lock mechanism is very stiff. This causes me to use the wire pocket clip under my fingers (3rd, 4th and 5th fingers) to get leverage to pull back the lock mechanism. I’ve put so much force on the pocket clip I ended up tweaking it just a bit in the first 2 weeks I had the knife. Now the pocket clip is not tight against the scales of the handle, making it somewhat loose in the pocket. Also, it can’t be removed to be bent back into position. This alone makes me wish I had gotten the G10 version instead.

For anyone that doesn't know! DLC is not for corrosion protection contrary to a lot of people's thinking. It does have some corrosion protection but very little at these ultra thin levels. This has been well documented on the syperco forums and in industry outside of knives. I live in florida and spend a great deal of time in the keys. Dlc knives in nonstainless steels will develop corrosion spots just about as quickly as the same steel in a satin. If your in a corrosive environment don't depend on DLC to protect from corrosion. A quick wipe down with bees wax once a week and your solid!

Have a Endela K390 FRN scales.
It feels also because of the handles like just a very solid tool.
Only difference which I do notice with your knives is that the scales aren’t chamfered at all. In contrary to de Endurance/Endela etc. series.
Guess that’s a real difference in comfort when using them.

I’m excited to get my Rex 45 manix. I paid $80 more for my 940 in S30V and was not impressed. Sharpness out of the box and centering were poor. The omega springs also broke on me in a couple of months and Benchmade customer support left me holding the bag when I asked them to send some out. Ended up buying some from Etsy and solved the problem. I doubt the manix will have any of these issues and the steel is better.

You won't have any of those problems with the Manix especially the lock, instead of omega springs the Manix uses a coil spring, imo Spyderco is just a better company I've never had a QC problem with any of my Spyderco knives and I've owned and still own a decent amount, Benchmade on the other hand I can't say the same for. Congrats on the new knife I'm sure you're gonna love it 👍⚔️

Spyderco does a great job with their lightweight polymer scales, i just don't like polymer scales, i know Spyderco's polymer is plenty tough but it just feels cheap to me no matter what company's it is but i have to say that feeling cheap does not make it garbage, it's just personal preference, but i do have a Manix 2 LW in S110V that i use at work, it's comfortable to use and it performs great and i think most people will be more than happy with Spyderco's LW line because they really are great knives

I don’t think light weight has much relationship with “cheap”, as in poorly made”. Somewhere along the way, it seems some folks are connecting dots that don’t belong together.
Poorly made knives can manifest in many ways, regardless of weight or bulk.
In the same way that folks think that plastics make a knife cheap, yet the same folks who are into firearms have no issues with weapons that are partially made of plastics.
There is no real relationship other than personal preference.

Lw means it has a specific reason.... not cheap or not.... it's simply fitting a use case. Spyderco has LW down to a science and does it right. If your buying a FRN model over a G10 model for the cost savings and don't expect it to lack some of the higger end feel then your gonna be upset. It's LW not to be cheaper, it's LW to be lighter weight for people that don't want a 4oz knife in them gym shorts pocket or hikers counting ounces.

I believe the G10 Manix with S30V steel is the only one that doesn’t have milled liners- all specialty steels/sprint runs (except the Cruwear/Micarta combo, I believe?) have them milled out. I don’t know why they don’t do the same on the standard model.

Great video. I am looking at 3 Manix 2 blades. The BD1N S30V and the White REX 45. In your opinion, which steel is the best overall for retention and ease of sharpening? Thanks!

    • @raydens_armory
      @raydens_armory 9 місяців тому +1

Awesome dude! Yeah all those will serve you well however, for the value, dollar for dollar the Rex 45 is gonna be your best bet. Plus it will hold a long sharp edge for a really long time, and with its pretty good toughness it will do well in a lot of different cutting tasks. Me second choice will be the s30v cuz it's really well rounded with good corrosion resistance and good edge retention, but kinda chippy. So I'd say rex 45 man, I think you'll enjoy that one the most. As long as it's kept with a thin layer of oil on the blade to prevent corrosion, since rex 45 is not at all stainless lol. Appreciate you tuning in! God bless you. Numbers 6:24-26
