I am dealing with GPKnives right now for the same knife. I ordered a Black Rex45 around Christmas and just now decided to unbox it and carry it. I found one of the scales has a crack in it. Contacted GPKnives to see if they would sell me a scale since it was months ago and they told me they will warrantee either way. Customer for life!
I just did the exact same thing with my white Manix 2 LW using OG aluminum scales. I really don't like FRN or other plastic scales so I'm on a mission to slowly mod all of them out of my collection. Next up is my Microtech MSI - such a beautiful knife, deserves better than injection molded plastic scales. OG scales should be ready to ship in August, can't wait.
Thanks very much! I have several M2 from GP and have thought of replacing the scales so this helped me to understand the dynamics of the LW better…very helpful!
I have both of the LW Rex-45 Manix-2 knives, one in DLC, the other plain. The DLC version i stole the blade out of the frn scales and put it in the regular Manix-2 titanium scales that would be for the G-10 knives and it fit perfectly. The other one i haven't unboxed yet...i am deciding on which schale I want to get for that one.
Have AWT’s on several Manix’s waiting on a set of these for my LW Rex45 from OG hoping soon! I change out the cage and ball as well and use Lynch clips
I didnt know this but RGT has been making wire clip replacement 3D clips for a while. Listed under Techno clips. Fit way more than all the wire Spyderco too.
I just put some AWT bronze scales on my stormtrooper manix lw and it is a whole new knife. What an upgrade! I have some OG scales for the MSI on the way and cannot wait. Thanks for the discount code!
Took my Rex45 blade out and put it in the standard g10 model. I think the MagnaCut blade will be going in the new crucarta manix for a “MagnaCarta” manix 👋 good work as always 👍🏻
MXG has a great deep carry clip for the Manix 2 that doesn't hang over the edge. It uses 2 of the 3 holes, but that has never been an issue for me. I have them on my S110, 15v, and Crucarta Manix's.
I have a manix 2 seconds that I didn't really want to put too much money into. I got a set of carbon fiber 3d printed scales from HiPolyDesigns and was super impressed with their offering. I swapped out the scales blind just like you did about 2 weeks ago.
I have my Manix 2 LW in magnacut in hand as I type this. Instead of Original Goat scales in ti, I went with the AWT aluminum scales in cerakote charcoal green and I REALLY LIKE them. Actually , I sorta' wanted the OG scales in ti due to the ability to ano them but I didn't want to wait til the middle of May for them to be shipped. After getting the AWT scales installed and in hand, plus with AWT's deep carry wire clip installed, I'm glad I got them. Also went with the Flytanium black anodized aluminum ball cage kit, which I picked up through OCD4EDC, and with the provided lighter weight spring, the action is really sweet. Much less resistance while pulling back on the ball cage. Makes a world of difference... also, I found out that Spyderco's magnacut will magnacut the f**k outta' ya'.
Ordered a set of these scales (the gunstock pattern in matte black ceramic coating) for my Manix LW just now. Gorgeous looking scales and a major upgrade for these knives...
Also put a spring and ball kit in. With the light spring there was ZERO detent. Shake open. Left the ceramic ball and cut a coil of the factory spring and it’s great.
One of the things i like about the Manix is the snappy detent, I just wear that spring in and get used to it. Many of my Taichungs are pretty weak but weakest of all is a Crucarta PM2 that bounces on close unless I button push and intentionally use gentle closing or do an exaggerated catch to close. I wish that PM2 had the Manix 'problem' people are trying to fix.
It was smart to tape up that blade. Since you are replacing the scales, have you given any thought to replacing the plastic ball bearing cage with a sturdier aftermarket metal one? Definitely enjoy these disassembly videos.👍
Very nice but way to shiny for my taste - I went with the cobalt blue AWT scales after I ruined the original plastic ones in a disassembly attempt. I had them within a week and installation was fairly easy even for a noob like myself. I hated spending the $100 bucks but the result was stunning and the scale swapping was a great learning experience. Thank you Stassa for the inspiration.
Applied weapons tech (AWT) has really nice scales for the para3 lw I jus picked up a pair for my knife joy exclusive para3 in cruwear and I absolutely love them!!!
Thanks for this video. I have been trying to decide which Spyderco to go with, the Manix 2 either standard or LW or the Para 3. I think it's going to be a Manix 2, probably the lw, and then customize it with some scales.
I went with ATW scales for my M4 manix 2 personally. They claim they don't require any liners for the bushings. But still waiting to get them in hand. Been about a week since I placed my order
RGT universal clip for the manix 2 is really nice. Put one on my g10 s110v and it’s not too deep like a Lynch clip on it. A little pricey but a great fit 👍🏻
Do you likespydercos k390 or magnacut better? I want a spyderco endura in k390 but never had experience with the endura. I have a manix 2 lw in spy27 and want to get a magnacut blade but hate yellow scales on it. Im most likely gonna get a kershaw launch 7 in magnacut and the spyderco endura k390. I was just curious about how edge retention compares with spydercos heat treatment for both the magnacut and k390.
As to the clip, well, the original wire is probably the best. However, you can also get the Lynch clip that fits the wire clip attachment. I just have a problem with all the companies that charge the price of the knife for just replacement scales. If China can do it for $20 they don't need to be charging over a hundred just because its stamped Made in USA.
I love my lw scales from them I now have their scales on my hogue deka my hogue msk m1 my mantix lw in m4 my ad20.5 and I have a set coming for my microtech msi also lol needless to say I love original goat
Awesome video👍i would like to swap blade from manix 2 lw magnacut to liners version. You mentioned that the pivot ( in magnacut LW blade) is pushed in blade hole. Thats why I m affraid does swapping blade from LW to liners version is possible Guys if someone of you know such a topic please let me know
I don't like the feel but beyond that when i have gloves on it wants to jump forward too much when opening, unless I think to hold the front. I really tried to like it though, but I need more substantial grip. My G10 versions are heavy but don't have this problem one bit.
I bought an original benchmade mini freek with the black rubber scales and grey plastic inserts ugly a.f I carried it once and hated it .bought some black aluminum scales from awt about 3 months ago and have carried it every day since I love it now. always loved the blade shape and material but those original scales sucked so bad. if you have one buy some nice ones it will change the entire knife! 😊
do you want to sell the yellow scales or any plastic ones you might have? I messed mine up trying to get the pocket clip off and really don't want to spend 100 bucks on metal scales...thank you.
Unfortunately for me, the Blade HQ Exclusive Manix 2 LW that I have has RIVETED construction, so no scales for me!! They realized that that was a boneheaded specification in today's market, because they make a big deal over Torx hardware on the new version with the DLC coated blade. I really like that Axial Alpine V2, it's one of two small fixies on my Wishlist, ahead of a Bradford Guardian 3.5 in Magnacut. A 3D printer is ahead of both though...
I can kinda see what you mean on some of them like I wish I would have either went with a different scale texture or got them coated because these can become slice since they are almost polished
Well Stassa, after all these years, I never woulda thought you’d make the move toward bougie. But with your fancy screwdrivers (and your plug for the manufacturer) you’ve proved me wrong. Disappointing.
I have a Spyderco Domino with the paper thin cheap bushing grooved. Spyderco refuses to send me a simple set of cheap bushings. They want me to spend $30 to send the knife in so they can do it. That is sh!tty customer service, and a company with that kind of service is one to be avoided.

The Manix-2 is probably my favorite Spyderco as I have four of them.
I have both of the LW Rex-45 Manix-2 knives, one in DLC, the other plain.

Yea, I wanted the goat scales but I wasn’t going to wait 2 months. Picked up the AWT in teal.
Patience is a virtue but lack of it means you get stuff quicker 😂
good things come to those who wait.
@@lovescamaros1 Not necessarily.
I truly enjoyed this topic content and I’m glad to see you doing it. I would enjoy seeing more videos like this in the future. Keep up the great work.
Have AWT’s on several Manix’s waiting on a set of these for my LW Rex45 from OG hoping soon! I change out the cage and ball as well and use Lynch clips
I had communicated with OG a couple weeks ago they said the manix scales should be on time.
Good to know thank you!
I didnt know this but RGT has been making wire clip replacement 3D clips for a while. Listed under Techno clips. Fit way more than all the wire Spyderco too.

Nice! I've got them bookmarked from another one of your videos and I'll have to get a closer look at the models they do. Looks like fun to me.
Yes, I like these types of videos..
Thank you for showing..
I ordered the gunstock for my manix it's coming in May I can't wait thank you for video
I have the black and white one.
I absolutely L O V E that knife!!!!!
I switched out the factory clip with a black titanium clip.
Looks nice! I like the Stormtrooper pattern on my Rex45 LW, though, and honestly don't mind Spyderco's FRCP.
Thanks, Stassa!

I’ll definitely be going with AWT scales for the manix 2. OG scales look very busy, just a bit “fancy” for my taste. Nice job though 👍🏻
I like the video. I love doing upgrades and watching others do them blind. Always fun to test yourself. I might try to get some of those scales.
I have OG scales on my Engage and I can attend, they do a wonderful job milling them out. The fitment is great. Love them
Ordered a set of these scales (the gunstock pattern in matte black ceramic coating) for my Manix LW just now. Gorgeous looking scales and a major upgrade for these knives...

Don't know much about copper washers. But I think while I had it apart I would have put some oil on them.
Bronze, and yes polish and oil.
Scales look amazing. Probably going to get some for my manix lws

The new scales are beautiful but I can't believe you don't like yellow!
Definitely enjoy these types of videos
Great video Stassa/ I'm waiting on my GOAT scales for my Manix 2 X45.
That blade is very sharp!
looks great. I wish OG woulda made para3 LW scales too.

Same knife, black gunstock ceramic coated, love my GOAT! Lynch makes a wire replacement clip for Syderco if I decide to change it.
Thanks for the video. Very helpful.

I'd combine the black blade and hardware with the yellow scales and call it the "Hornet".
Mxg makes a clip that fits good on the manix and doesn't stick up past the scales. I have one on mine and it has worked well.
I have the crucarta manix 2 pre ordered n i cant wait

Nick I’ll purchase the yellow scales if you are disposing them. Nice video, I’d like a source of slightly weaker springs-cheap.
So is this harder to do with the lightweight scales?
Very cool video thanks.
Mine locks and clicks when opening, did I do something wrong?
Stassa questioning if he can put the scales on..😏

Damn I want to do the scales on my manix lw but it doesn't have screws it's just together with pins so I have to buy another manix just to do the swap
AWT has the 2XL scales. Looks like the installation is a pain on the XL manix
So we know who we can send our knifes to get our scales replaced lol.
As far as I know my og’s should ship tomorrow for my manix
Sweet !
