    • @nicelady51
      @nicelady51 3 місяці тому

      @@jaju123456 Geez. He's homeless and has no medical insurance. He needs and is entitled to medical care. Medicaid is not the do-all tell-all people think it is. I have Medicare and Medicaid. The Medicaid does not pay unless I have spent $1371 in one day. That would be like a couple expensive tests, like MRI or CT scans. If Medicaid happens to kick in, it picks up the rest of your coinsurance and copays for the rest of the month. Then the cycle begins again the next month. These #'s are according to income. It's a complicated deal to say the least. Probably easier for illegals than for citizens, though.

    I applaud you and respect you my man and this is coming from a 63 yo who recently retired. First off, you are aware of your expenses and budget. CHECK. Secondly, you are taking responsibility and are aware of your situation. CHECK. Don’t concern yourself with the naysayers if you can. Those people are likely jealous of your situation and certainly don’t help you. Keep positive and lean on those of us who have been where you are and know with the discipline you are demonstrating you will be on top before long. $600 car payment? Well, still cheaper than rent for most parts of this country.
    And you're right ... making extra payments on the car is a great idea. We paid extra on our mortgage every month and saved over 10 years on it. It wasn't always easy, but we just never thought about it ... that "extra" was just a scheduled payment, just like the mortgage.
    Geez ... the pay/earn and risk/reward cycle in this country is crazy .... if you're already rich, no problem ...the issue comes when you try to build wealth with honest labor.

    After my wife died of cancer in 2013, I didn't file taxes for 4 years. Man that cost me a lot of money. So I ended up on an installment plan. Pay that sucker off and free up some money. Next I would pay off the car. I always buy new and pay off within 3 years. I just don't like payments. My house and vehicles are paid off and no CC debt. So I pay property taxes, insurance, utilities, groceries and can live on SS and my small pension. Congrats on doing what you need to do to live and take care of your son. You are a good dad.

    • @raykrv6a

      @@cometasporelcielo I buy new at 15% or more discount to MSRP. Plus I have a nice Trade-in. It's about bargaining. Most people don't. I would rather pay for new car with full warranty, then dink around buying tires, brakes, or having a tech put the used car up on a lift so I can inspect the car for previous accidents. Nope I used to drive crap cars and either fix issues myself or pay a shop to do it. My 2014 RAM HD with Cummins paid 51k for it which was 10k under MSRP. Still worth 38-43k trade-in last time I checked. I still have a RAM Max Care warranty on it which costs me $32 a month. That covers over 5000 items. $200 deductible. Haven't had to use it yet. Bren did well to buy new because of the work he does.

    Bren, have you considered joining a Credit Union and Re-financing your car loan with them for a lower interest rate? Also, if you have an Aldi's in your area they have Kombucha for $2.89ea, with Kombucha the fermentation process turns to alcohol because of the sugar, so from what I understand it's still better for your health, with that said, you should probably still avoid it because of the 0.5% alcohol. I switch from Geico after 25yrs to Progressive and save $80 a month.

    Hi Bren, spend some time with a tax consultant as I'm confident you can write off a percentage of your car payment, insurance, your cell phone as you're a in theory self-employed. Therefore things needed to keep your business afloat (such as the car, insurance, gas, maintenance & cell phone-internet-hot spot) are what is known as "non reimbursed" business expense.♥

I've made mistakes like you too. Be kind to yourself. Thank you for your honesty but you don't owe anyone any explanations. Enjoy your new apartment and that big bathtub. You're an inspiration. Geico did me dirty the same way, I'm 61 years old, no wreck in my life, some dimwit short brakes me and I bump them, minor stuff as you would say, they upped my monthly $100 immediately, I left them immediately for a lower rate that Geico had me at before the bump.

    Bren, you are implementing a solid plan. I hope once you pay off the car loan and be on top of your taxes, you would start to feel more freedom. You are your own Ramsey and do not need any financial coaching to focus on your debts. By the looks of it you will be debt free before the end of 2026. Since you are keeping $400 for car maintenance for a new car every month, any major breakdown can be met. Subarus after 2017 model years have come out to be more reliable than RAV4s specifically for engine and transmission issues. I also work for the apps for food delivery services in Canada and use a Prius, no savings as it’s ground clearance sucks scraping icey roads and having to replace lower / upper control arms, ball joints and tires once in a while. Have to drive around 8000km a month on average to make $5500 income. And Prius has less cargo space than a Subaru. Great value video. Wish you a happy new year. Thanks for sharing for your every day life with us.

    You're feeling what we all feel!
    I might also mention that unless I missed it you haven't included things like clothing, random "stuff" purchases such as Amazon, and as you briefly mentioned saving each month for holidays/occasions. It's really crazy how things add up.
    My only suggestion would be to seriously consider the difference on a lease payment of a brand new vehicle. I know, I know... but I bet you could lease a worry free vehicle for HALF of your car payment, and then you wouldn't need to save anything for maintenance either (total savings $500-700/month). It would basically be like a monthly business expense that's predictable and stable. I also understand that you may go over the mileage limits, so that's a factor. Regardless, you're doing awesome and making lots of very smart choices!

    • @StevenProulx-t6c
      @StevenProulx-t6c 3 місяці тому

      Doesn't a lease only allow so many miles driven?? As a gig worker we jack on a good amount of miles..

    • @BCTCanadian
      @BCTCanadian 3 місяці тому

      @@StevenProulx-t6c yep usually. But the rates are so much better. What you can do is use a line of credit to buy the car out at the end of the lease so miles don’t matter, and then immediately sell it for usually what you paid or very close. Then you just rinse and repeat. The whole point is the rates and low monthly payment for say 5 years while the lease is going on.

    As a suggestion, when you make early payments on your car, write on your check or somehow convey "apply to principle". I shortened my car loan significantly by doing this. Because otherwise they apply the payment to the interest. Just one sneaky way they extract more money from u.

    Thanks for sharing that info Bren. It's a struggle out there for just about everyone. Imagine if you tack a 1300 dollar a month rent payment on top of that. One serious issue is that your car is deteriorating and you need a big chunk of change for the next one. Gig work is a double edged sword in that you're beating up your vehicle. Maybe better to drive to a job that offers overtime and work 45 hours a week.

    Thank you for this information. With your maintenance savings on your car, I would take $100 of that and put it towards your car or IRS whatever % rate is more especially if your car is less than 5 years old. That $400 a month is almost $5,000 a year. My car is going on 4 years old and I just had to get tires for it as a major expense. Otherwise it's 6 month oil changes and regular maintenance (air filters etc.) For your taxes, since you don't have your income withheld, 40% of your earnings should be set aside for taxes. Good luck to you on your new apartment.
