- Trick to improve Marshall Code 50 Tone , if you have an marshall Code amp then this trick will help you improve your amp tone. This is a simple trick that will just make a big difference to your sound if you are playing at home or at a gig.
Marshall CODE amps always feel too bassy and overdriven to me so this trick helped to take the edge off some of those Marshall code tones that weren't usable to me.
You can see more videos on guitar apps and other guitar gear at www.bestguitarapp.com
The gear I'm using in this video:-

Four and a half minutes to say "Lift your amp up"?
Seriously... I don't often dislike videos, but holy crap what is the deal here?
Angus Young 😂😂😂😂😂😂
yeh...and 1 second to say ...do 2 LPs with axl and call it a day ...you silly little fucka
Dude I watched this video in 2X speed because it was so slow and I was shocked to see he spent 4 minutes talking and all he said was to lift it up xD hahahaha
saved me 4 minutes, thank you
What an amazing tip, guy! Thanks for the video 🤘🏻
We have been tilting our VALVE AMPS back for DECADES !
Same here; i thought it was for me to hear it better..... With my MM 130 I would take the back wheels out; like forever; since 1972. Twin reverb the same, i guess
Such an interesting tip! Thanks man!
It’s a great idea to do this with 12” combo amps, especially if you’re playing in a band with live drums. I used to put mine up on the furniture or the bass amp!
Holy crap,it does work! why didn't I think of this? Thanks!
+Michael Skewes glad it helped
Thanks man, i appreciate it!
Seems to work :) However the top-back control panel gets even more difficult to reach and controll than. Hard choice on cobos in this price range, each has some gliches.
It does improve the sound indeed...thnx,mate!!
Very interesting! I really like my Code 25, which I purchased a few months back, but I do agree some of the tones sound a bit flatter than expected...will definitely be giving this a go, so thank you :)
I've got the 50 and it's a little disappointing
@@gkarone3228 I do know what you mean, as my black Star id core doesn't suffer from the same problem. Certainly lifting it up made a massive difference in sound from how it was just sat on the carpet
I have one but how do I create a fuzzy grungy sound to it?
Not sure if the CAB setting is on but shutting it off does wonders
I use 2 Yoga Blocks. Amazing sound and stable. Black blocks look like it's really part of the amp. To move on carpet, I put carpet sliders on the bottom of the Yoga Blocks. All connected with double sided Gorrila Tape.
Like a lot of people I have several amps, mostly tube but I also have the Code 50 and a blackstar ID Core. I tried the Katana but found it a little thin sounding to my ear plus I was looking for a a modelling amp. Unfortunately while there are plenty of people who love the flexibility of the Code there also seems to be as many who cant wait to make a stupid, unhelpful, dull witted comment, I'm guessing it makes them feel good in some way. Its a shame they have to be so negative as at the end of the day we are all wanting the same thing, great tone. So next time we read a post and the gear is not something we might not personally appreciate, let's not put down the other guys choice and remember music is something we have in common.
Excellent response!!! Chuck M
Lee Perry nice comment you are so right
Pot calling kettle on that one mate..."So next time we read a post and the gear is not something we might not personally appreciate, let's not put down the other guys choice"..The katana sounded thin?? Yes, the 50w [kat] sounds thin compared to the 100w..
Keith - Where the hell did that come from?? You seem bitter and then you go on to insult everyone under 48! Im 38 and can tell you that i seem to have more manners than most that are older..such a erroneous thing to claim..
so, you don't believe in free speech?? Maybe you prefer the term 'hate speech'?
Tim, sorry.
It actually came from the end of Lee Perry's reply.
That is who I was replying too....at least I thought.
I must have hit the wrong REPLY button.
Again, I apologise.
We've been putting our Twin Reverb amps on Chairs for years - even forgoing the equipped "Tilt-Back" Legs.
THANK YOU IT DOSE WORK
I always tilt my Marshall code 50 or any amp the sound does seem to sound better
Ya, but what if I wanna do this with my Code 412 half stack?
I immediately found this a must
What you put in F/C input
thanks for this!
Always keep your amp on a stand or on a desk or something, or else you get too much bass
thank you, man!
I bought a stand and ir does make a difference. I was having problems getting a good clean sound. I eventually turned the volumes down on my guitar and hey presto. Must have bee driving the front end too hard. GUILD STARFIRE II
I always have angled a combo amp so the speakers are facing upwards
or you can buy a stand if you prefer.
+EJ you almost want two fold out legs that hinge off the back of the amp to give it the tilt
yeah i think fender has a combo that has them built on the amp?
I run a 200w English made Marshall quad speaker with my code 100w head. Fantastic sound. It's speaker quality that emulates the real thing.
All I want to do with this amp is turn on with a program called EL34 Heaven. It's the shit. Any answers? Just use that one program and want it to be there as soon as its powered up. Thanks.
What is making that crackly static like noise when you play?
Yeah - I can hear that "Universally Annoying" CRACKLE Loud & Clear all throughout the Video. I thought he was going to show us how to fix THAT ! I'm surprised he didn't hear it.

I’m currently at the urologist being told I need reconstructive surgery.... Instructions unclear
Also turn the cab off. It's on by default on all presets and shouldn't be as it adds a weird processed sound on top
Of course it's gonna sound better!! The sound isn't going straight at you legs and floor, but more towards your ears. This is why combo amp stands are angled!
I think it’s more to do with the resonance the wood provides over that of the carpet
I found this, when I put mine on an amp stand, 200% better. I think the problem in the cab size. However, I found the clean tones acceptable from the get-go.
OMG, so simple, I did lift it 18 inches from the floor. Thank you
Buy an amp stand
Please the preset!!!!!! ): i love the song
I have mine sitting on an end table that has been dedicated to that purpose. Sitting on the floor it doesn't sound nearly as good as it does sitting on that little table! Great advice!
This comments section lends itself well to a study in the results of "weak parenting"...... ;)
or compromised genes
The real way to improve this amp is to buy new speakers. I was unhappy with it until I bought some Warehouse Guitar Speakers for it. The tone is amazing! Sounds just like my JCM 2000, except I have a code 2x12.
What model speakers did you get exactly. I'm buying a Code 100 2x12 combo used for $250 and have been reading about the speakers being better replaced. Thanks in advance.
There are likely two things happening here.
1) Higher frequencies are more directional than lower frequencies, and tend to fall off dramatically when you listen to the speaker 30+ degrees "off axis." This is why loudspeaker designers spend so much effort to have their tweeters at, or slightly above, the listeners' expected ear placement. Tilting the amp back has the same effect as lowering your head. Try it.
2) The floor can cause disruption of the soundwave before it reaches your ear, either by absorbing certain frequencies (carpet=muffled), or by reflecting and causing wave cancellation/addition (tile/hardwood=muddiness/lack of coherence/clarity). Tilting the the amp back reduces the interference of the soundwave by the floor. Placement by a wall, even with a closed-back amp, can also cause the amp to be muddy/boomy.
All amps can be affected by this, but the CODE 50 seems to be particularly susceptible. I'm guessing the bottom edge of the speaker is placed lower on the front baffle than is typical.
What type of platform do you recommend I set it up then?
I've always done this with all of my combos. Now with my code 100.
studio monitors too for a good mix
The CODE is actually great.I thought it was sh1te till I did all the recent updates of amp and app.
Great now ! I always put my amps on a table.
Get a stand and put the amp at head level. then you really hear all of the amp. Same concept as a monitor. you want the sound coming at your ears to get the full range of your setting.
Your my new favourite person 😆😆 I always do that if my combo is flat to the floor all you are doing is directing the speaker to your ears !!
I’ve gotta say I’ve owned the orange cr60 , boss katana 100, Yamaha thr10 , blackstar idv60 , top market digital solid state Amps , and the Marshall seems to sound absolutely shit compared to them I’m shocked as Marshall usually own the solid state market
Orrr..if you feel like spending money you can buy a proline amp stand for it and it gets it up off the floor and makes the control knobs and buttons a bit easier to reach. Also I really liked the sound of the amp through my headphones better than the speaker until I saw a guy on youtube using a tube steamer to boost the signal and went out and bought an RC booster pedal and that seems to give me a great sound straight out of the amp.Now I'm just waiting for them to put out the Code 100 and will be taking apart the 50 and doing more mods to it!
Gary Hundsrucker let me know how you get on. Do you think Marshall will increase the effects option like adding a fuzz or octave?
Best Guitar App I'm sure it will be able to handle just about anything!I've got a Podhd500 x and have hooked that up to it , a crybaby wah pedal and a electoharmonix B13 and those worked too.I bought a aby splitter pedal to run two amps at the same time but I haven't tried it yet. What I'm gonna do with the 50 is build a new cabinet for it and add the output jack to hook it up to a slant back cabinet. Also I am going to bring the control panel up to the front like a traditional combo .
whats a tube steamer?
...in case you didn´t figure it out until now:
it´s the tube screamer, the overdrive pedal ;-)
The absolute best way to improve the tone of any Marshall Code or MG is to trade it in on a Blackstar...lol...just picked up the ID Core Stereo 100...mind blown.
I tried the Blackstar. I couldn't get the chugging palm mute sound the Marshall gives you so easily.
I'd go for a Code100 instead
What the fuck are these dislikes, awesome video man, really helped me!
my friend put a 65 watt speaker sounded terrible it was an eninance they suck terrible He was made it made it very thin and brittle and would clip terrible my guess is some tyupe of greenback speaker at the correct ohm age
yeah
The only trick you need with this amp is a flat response speaker like the Celestion X-200. Marshall puts generic grade guitar speakers in these amplifiers, which is stupid because the amplifiers have cabinet simulation, which sounds awful through a standard guitar speaker.
Geez, turn off that weird music when you're talking.
It's not the ground it's the carpet. When I have it on the hardwood it's fine. On the carpet it did what yours did. It muffles it too much.
+Sherkhan I agree it is the carpet. I played on a hardwood at the weekend and it was much better
if all sound is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration - then carpet kills that vibration
Interesting.. mine is about 3-3.5 ft off the ground and I find myself resting my head on top of it just for that added clarity I guess, maybe I'm hugging it while playing as best as I can 🤣
My trick is been having my Black SG of Honor
So an ok review, but instead of lifting the amp find a flat surface to put it on while you play.
If I lift my speakers off the ground now - will your background music stop????? WHY ISNT IT STOPPING?!?!?! ( throws speakers )
is this 50 watt loud because i live in apartment and i dont want to be loud
It’s out to get you! I find when I gig the master volume starts curving off fairly quickly but the initial jump from 1 to 4 is big. I tend to drop the gain and volume off the settings and push up the master then control the volume more from my guitar. The presets are designed for an arena tour rather than an apartment!
Turn off the music! Can't hear you
I like well this little amp. But what I hate is all those IOS/Android smartphones "editors". This is just shit. Thank's for the trick. I've put a shoe box under my Code 25 :)
Turn the music down please!
All amps ...
“MUST BE AT EARS LEVEL”
to be more effective!!!
Amps low to or on floors are pointless to listen too or get great sounds..
An old 4 -6 drawers dresser is an option
Too mutch talk...
No beer for you today!
Didn't need to waste my time. It's not the answer tbh. Every practice amp I use I always tilt back anyways. "Much more lifted" I wonder how that works haha
I have a Code 50,just turn off CAB and you'll be good to go
not all presets get on with CAB turned off, but some of them sounds awesome that way
Oh, Thank Goodness , it ended . Thanks
Please turn down the background music , or , do away with it all together . It's annoying as , well , You know .
Sorry everyone I just need to make a general statement.
I've sat here and read the replies given and I just can't say how disappointed I am in a group of supposed MUSICIANS.
We're supposed to be of a different breed.
We're supposed to be people who make music from the Heart, Music with FEELINGS but it seems that MOST, NOT ALL, seem to not care about someone's feelings other than to make MEAN, HURTFULL, HEARTLESS and just plain RUDE COMMENTS.
Yep, I'm sure I'll get quite a few TROLLS out there who will relish in the thought of BASHING me from in front of their computer screen or Phone.
Take a second, put yourself in a person's shoes who's making a Video trying to help someone and think how you would feel if it was YOU getting BASHED because of something you showed.
I'm sure the TROLLS feel BIG AND BAD saying what you say or typing what you type because you know you're protected by your screen.
Obviously, you have no life, were taught no Social Skills or maybe you're just plain mean.
People who do this stuff, especially to the Youth of this World or at least here in the United States, are the reason that suicide is rampant among the youth.
I apologise if I'm old fashioned, had great parents who raised me to show respect, whether you agreed or not, you at least respected the other persons point of view.
Those of you who Bash, Love to Bash and will be Bashing me, remember......KARMA IS A BITCH!!!
LET THE BASHING BEGIN FROM THE OH SO INTELLIGENT!!!
The moment you upload a video on UA-cam you should be prepared for some bashing. If most comments are against you, then you are probably doing something wrong. Like posting a 4 minute video just to say "lift your amp a bit". Yeah, the world is full of assholes, welcome to the Internet.
O-o
this is no improvement..the speaker is so directional your bringing whats being thrown at your feet up to your ears....only way to improve the tone is to spend some time with it and reset some presets to something other than the stock neil young ice pick in your ears, sympathy for the devil lead crappy God awful sound, tones...lol
i have two of these amps...one is in the original cab and the other is in a bluesbreaker single 12 cab that is open back and a WGS legend 4 ohm speaker..frkn thing went from a great amp (after i modded some presets)to amazing amp....
that's a woody tone 😂😂😂
I've always had my amps up at least 4 Foot .. your ears are not in your knees.. but the code 50 is imo a very lifeless amp..
TALK TOOOOOOOOOOO MUUUUUUUUCH
intro background music annoying as fuck
Ha Yes!
The very Best Trick to Improve the Marshall Code is to Buy the Boss Katana instead
Tried it. Didn't like it for high gain metal, its distortion sounds a bit fake.
First of all, you’re playing that riff wrong!!! Secondly are you fucking joking?
it's a crap!!!!
Just don't buy it if it sounds like shit. Simple as that. The boss katana sounds better
Nah, tried the Boss Katana. Played for a couple of minutes. Then the sales person connects the Marshall CODE50. After a couple of seconds I bought it.
I have got this amp. Lifting them up is only tne first part to improve their perfomance. Le´s me give you the whole pack of measures:
a)Lift it up
b)Go to your nearest window
c)Wait for nobdy passing down
d)throw it away
c)Forget this MARSHIT for ever and ever Ok.
still sounds like fart
l3ertuz you're so right I tried this and I shit myself. something about that angle that makes the fart like sitting on a good sugar shitter
Really! The low end is ridiculous. Hi-end no exist. Class D amps don't have a emotional character... This Amp lacks in personality and life
I put mine on the roof and it does sound better. Cuz I can't hear it anymore. Worst amp and app I've ever bought!
I threw mine off the roof..cause i wanted to hear the nice breakup..i love marshall...but they havent made a affordable good sounding amp since 1986
I agree man. I wanted a combo to drag around the house, so I bought a Code 50. Absolute garbage
Yep me too it's shit I bought the head 100w and it's so noisy it's useless clean tones are pointless with the horrendous humming fizzing popping and on and on and on
How to improve your tone on the Code 50? Buy a BOSS Katana 50.
I did
Hahaha!!! I think So!!! that's how you Improved it!!!
spend some time and get rid of the hvy metal ice pick in your ears presets...and pull some really smooth tone from it...thats what i did
Yeah Right lol. They sound so thin compared to the Marshall.
I was going to type return it, get a Katana 50, put the 30 bucks you saved in your pocket or buy some strings.
