  • Parosphromenus is a genus of gouramis native to freshwater in Southeast Asia. All species are highly specialized peat swamp inhabitants native to southeast Asia, and the males are usually brightly colored in breeding dress; however, their need for soft, acidic water and live food prohibits the genus from becoming popular aquarium fish. They represent a good challenge for the medium-advance aquarist.
The genus Parosphromenus is highly threatened by the large-scale destruction of habitats and transformation of rainforest into (palm oil) plantations.

Super cool! Did you ever get Fry! It would be awesome to have more captive breds in the hobby.

My dad's trying to get his set to breed. They come in the pet stores all the time here but they don't know how to look after them. The poor little guys when they come in are so starved that most of them die, even with all the tlc dad puts into them to try and save them. It's so sad.
