This past summer all I got were the pittance snack boxes. Back in December it was at least a decent, albeit cold in a box, sandwich (on a flight 2 miles over the 900 minimum). At least it's improving... I sure do miss the decent hot meals though. Even the flight attendants seemed disappointed in what they had to offer, but otherwise went above and beyond with other snacks and drinks. AA removing IFE really made me lose interest in flying them, and United only uses regional jets at my local airport, most lacking First, so I usually don't even bother checking them.

I prefer very early flights, and Delta for me is the no-brainer choice. The early morning flights tend to have more normal, sensible people, and you avoid many of the audacious crazies out there. The day Delta won me for live: I was flying BOS to LGA. I got to skyclub super early to get some work done. Check in said a storm was coming and my flight might get delayed - do I want to leave early? My flight was hours away and I would have been perfectly happy doing some work and chowing down so I opted to do just that. As time passed, my flight was going to be delayed by 20 mins. Then an hour. Kept looking bad. I told the desk people to get me out early. They somehow couldn't get me into a first class seat on an earlier flight, even though I was booked in first. However, I was able to do it on the app with 2 clicks. I got home EARLY. If I stayed, I'd have been delayed 2-3 hours. LOVE This kind of proactive service and redundancy plans.

Back in the 1970's, on select domestic flights -- in coach -- I can remember how we placed fresh linens on each tray table, and our food was served on china, with entrees such as lobster thermidor, filet mignon, etc. I once flew non-rev on Delta in 1973 (Atlanta to Los Angeles) and Delta's coach service was similar to ours, too. I'm going with Delta, Jeb. The biggest reason? It's a people oriented airline. Their main concern (even in Economy) is the comfort of the passengers, not "how many seats can I squeeze in so I can make more profit?" (I'm looking at YOU, American!) Because Delta is so focused on people before profit, they end up getting more profit. And their service just can't be beat. After 3 years of being grounded due to illness/surgeries, I'm looking forward to climb aboard Delta to head to JFK, and from there, flying Delta partner Virgin to Manchester, for the summer! See you in the skies, Jeb!

I like the morning flights a lot more than the afternoon ones, cause you get to your destination earlier in the day. Besides, it’s fun for me to get up @ around 3:30 or something, in terms of aviation.

    Good comparison!
I might be biased, as my nearest airport is DTW, and I am a Platinum Medallion - but I did live in Philly for quite some time, so I've had AA as the de-facto choice, too. With my overall experiences weighed out, I'd stick with Delta at the moment for the service and connectivity. I have done so for the last few years when traveling DTW>PHL.

Perfect timing with this video Jeb! I've got AA F booked on an A321 in March. Why don't US airlines allow lounge access for domestic flights btw? For me, lounge access is one of the biggest perks as I like to arrive at the airport early and relax. BTW I'm assuming you are allowed into the lounges if you hold airline status, though?

I am a road warrior and have flown both American and Delta, American for more than 4 million miles over 25 years and Delta for over 1 million miles over the past 11 years. I travel enough to keep my Diamond Medallion status. Yes, I remember the grim 2020 flights with a water bottle, a cookie and Cheetos. The good news is that a new and improved meal service is offered. I always get pre-takeoff drinks. The only thing missing is the hot towels, per COVID. I did find compressed towels on Amazon, about 1 1/2" square and 3/8" thick. You ask for hot water, dunk it and get a luscious 9" x 12" hot towel. I treat myself to one before the meal and another towards the end of the flight. The Diamond Status takes a bit more work- 125,000 miles and $15,000.00 in ticket fees, but for that, I get a complimentary Skyclub membership, 4 Global and 8 Regional upgrades and a bonus of 20,000 FF miles.I am almost always upgraded, including transcon Delta One flights. After all these years, probably having flown on every national airline that has existed, including the Trump Shuttle, by the way, I can say, professionally, that Delta is the best national airline. I am looking forward to a transatlantic trip on Delta One in a couple of weeks. The round trip, with Global upgrades, cost me $1,600.00, vs. the $6,853.00 full fare price. I am most impressed with the beautiful new Delta Clubs at La Guardia, San Francisco and Los Angeles. Gorgeous design and wonderful free food. I think, last comment, that First Class transoceanic flights include Skyclub visits. Last thing, I set up Gogo Air, which costs $49.99 a month, which I expense. Since I make 3-4 trips a month, it is money well-spent.

I've never taken a first class flight so I was expecting it to be so much better than coach, especially considering the price difference. I'm sorry to say that I'm definitely not impressed. Besides a couple of electrical enhancements and better customer service, there's almost no difference whatsoever. In fact, even in coach, you usually get a seat back video monitor.

It’s interesting because I just flew American Airlines and sat in “business class” and the seats looked exactly like the ones in the video that you said were “first class.” The actual first class seats on my airplane were a lot bigger and more luxurious. Also we had screens on the back of our seats and could enjoy a variety of movies. Snacks were also very tasty. I think I’ll stay with AA.

I remember my first time, and as of now my only time, in first class and it was on Delta. My mom unexpectedly got an offer to upgrade our seats for around $90-$100 each, and she decided to pay for it. She was expecting it to just be bigger seats and free service, but we had these pods or capsules that I’d say was spacious. Unfortunately, I was young and this was almost 5 years ago, so I don’t remember the technicalities and what the food was like, but with first class seats from airlines in America, I might not get that experience again. At least for a while

    Looked like fun

My preference is for early flights due to less delays and sometimes fewer people in the airport. But surprisingly red-eye flights are great! I’ve always slept quite well on planes and if it’s a work trip I arrive well rested. In Feb of 2020 I flew one of the last Delta 777’s from LAX to Sydney for work… red eye. Fell asleep on departure and woke up an hour before arrival. The FC attendant in my row saved my food for me and joked that he thought I had died. Just dead tired. 😂😂

The best first class in when you get upgraded from steerage. I think that is more likely to happen from a smaller station than from a large hub. When I was checking in at US Airways in Greensboro NC years ago, the agent said I had a long flight today since I was going all the way to Sydney via Charlotte and Los Angeles. I replied that I was going to Sydney to watch my wife compete on one of the U.S. teams at the Sydney Games. He asked for my boarding passes and tore them up, printing up new ones and stamping them 'First Class'. It was really appreciated.

I've found 1st class was inconsistent even before Covid, and even more now. I've been on back to back flights with AA where I got real glass and mixed drinks with a snack service and the next flight I was handed my captain, coke and plastic cup of ice and the snacks were on request. The 2nd flight was also the longer flight of the 2.

Seatback screens are a must have for me. I just flew on my first United Express flight a week ago and not having a seatback screen or even Wifi to stream to a device makes the flight feel less premium. I also don't travel with a tablet, so I would have to stream to my phone, which isn't as big of a screen as the seatback screens.

Switching to Delta. I go with AA, as my upgrades seem to always clear, and price is better. With the new AA qualifiers, it will be easier to earn status on Delta. While pre pandemic, AA first class had better meals & alcoholic beverages, along with a better blanket, Delta just feels much more premium. Its that seat back IFE for me. Delta Lounges are also vastly superior to AA's.
