great work !!! I'm a luthier and I try to swirl or marbeling on guitars, I bought the pebeo marbeling paints, and I got a formula ready for the paints to float easily, but when I apply the paint or background on the guitar and do the dip, the designs run and don't stick to the piece ! I've been trying for almost a year, please what base paint should I use to make the swirl stick to the guitar? thank you very much
The pick guard looks great. Did you need to do anything special before dipping it? Just curious how this works on plastic, if there's a trick or if it just goes right on, like it does w/ the guitar.
Awesome looking swirl. I tried the marble magic paint and it always dried way to fast for me. I use the borax method myself but still can't get it to work as well as you do with the marble magic paint. Guess is that the temp should be below room temp. Love the dip tank gotta get me one.
Is there a specific temp. the water should be at? Also, what did you apply to the guitar after dipping? Thanks! Guitar looks awesome btw. I'm planning to dip my Jackson flying V
So I tried this yesterday and it didn’t work at all. The paint started to clump up on the surface, did not make the nice circle like this video but made stringy rings, seemed like the paint was hardening or drying immediately on water contact. Is there a temperature and other things that need to be prepped in the water first?
I had the same issue, and then I purchased something called "easy marble" by a company called Marabu. You don't need to treat the water with anything, it doesn't matter the temperature, etc. Fantastic product. You can find it on Amazon or at local art stores.
Hi Theo Thanks for the ? I went thru that a lot and sometimes still do, White seems to be the worse. I have a video if you click on my Playlist its the "Swirl Fail" I take these steps 1) Pop the top off the paint and stir it well and also shake it 2) Make sure no fans or windows get any kind of breeze over the water. (No Movement) 3) Water temperature I like a range from 76-78 degrees 4) Fresh water I had done like 3 swirls then on the 4th one I couldn't as it just filmed up. Noe I change the water more often. I think that's everything and Good Luck
Love the swirl but I do have a question. It took almost 4 minutes to put 9 rings of paint and another minute and a half to stir. I’ve done a number of these with water and ambient temperature at 70-80 degrees and every time they skim at 2 1/2 - 3 minutes. So how have you achieved this long work time? This is an interesting art form and looks great on guitars but it is frustrating. I’ve sanded the same guitar down six times to try and get the look and results I like. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. J
The Tank size matter too, but you should try the water closer to the 76-80 degrees fahrenheit. Also make sure there is no wind. Are you using the Magic Marble paints or something else? I went thru so much sandpaper when i started until i realized to use something that i can throw away i used some wood i would primer it then test to get it down. Good Luck and Hopes this helps. I have a short video in my How-to section.
lapinus the only problem with that is when you dip the guitar it ends up with huge areas of a single color, which still looks good but not what I was going for. Thanks for watching
The paint that I use Magic Marble is 1 ounce USA, I would suggest for 3 color paint job 1 bottle of each color, it is always better to have to much paint then not enough. If you are painting the neck and headstock then I would get 2 bottles of each color. This also helps if you don't like the way it turns out you can sand it back down and prime it and have the extra paint.
No Borax when using Magic Marble Paints. I had tried the Borax method but could never get to work for me, then I found these which are much simpler to use.
I just sand and primer it usually white but then it depends on what colors i am using. Also try to plug all the small screw holes reason for this is it sometimes creates bubbles which in turn screw up the paint on the body
groovieguy Is there a specific temp. the water should be at? Also, what did you apply to the guitar after dipping for the gloss??Thanks! Guitar looks awesome btw. I'm planning to dip my Jackson Flying V
Hi, nice finish. How do you get the paint to spread so nicely? Do you have to use thinners? I prepared a bucket with 1,5 tablespoons per gallon of borax in the water but the paints acted quite weirdly. Some of the paint did not spread out at all (revell email paints) like there was still too much surface tension and some of the paint actually sank to the bottom of the bucket like there was not enough surface tension to hold it up. I did not use any thinners though..
@@joemama-kx6rk I actually ended up using "magic marble" paint which is designed for this type of painting. No additional chemicals needed. End result was good
Grandad Certified I probably use about 10-15 ml. They come in 1 ounce bottles which converts to almost 30 ml. Of course you can increase or decrease if you want more or less of a color. When I first started doing these I didn’t use enough and the area towards the neck would be faded. Now I always make sure I have more than enough to get it covered. Hopes this helps. I have another channel ua-cam.com/users/groovieguy
Yes Thank a lot man, definitely helps, I did some test on pieces of wood and it would fade towards the top which is why I wanted to get an amount. Also do you keep the temperature at a certain degree I played around with that and it seems like the paint would get pretty dense and wouldnt always spread out when dropping one color into the next.
Thanks, Also Ive shaken the pieces of wood I tried it out on and some on them resulted in a smudge or drip. Do you recommend blowing off all little droplets or just letting it dry.
I keep my water temperature around 76 degrees. It took me a long time to get everything right but this should get you close. I also found that if a ceiling fan or wind gets to the container your dipping with will also screw it up. I close all windows and turn my fans off.
groovieguy GG friend, i'm 13 and saving money to buy my first electric, no money tospend no guitar to swirl (because i'm not doing it with my inherited spanish guitar or the js i'm planning to buy)
Paint pattern mixed too much? I've never seen one of these videos were the painter didn't stir the paint colors together too much. Instead of a cool pattern you just get a bunch of visual noise. If he had dipped it at 3:50 it would have looked great.
what sandals are you using?
Where did the blue streaks come from?

Dude! Awesome! How do you did this? What components?
what's the background song?
Nice work. I like it
Best one I've seen on UA-cam nice work pal

I did prime the pick guard with white primer before swirling it
NICE WORK!!!
Great! what about the pickguard? did U primed it as the guitar body? then U cover coated it too? Thanks!
i think the pickguard is transparent
What kind of paint did you use and did u thin it out in anyway?
If you read the intro you would know. I don´t get how all those stupid questions comes up all the time.
@@kimhansen6384 the intro doesn't say what type of paint hes using
Enamel or lacquer paint? Just absolutely awesome job! Beautiful!!
How did you get the blue. All I saw was black.
Look at the finished guitar as its Red,, White and Blue. Lighting makes the blue look black in the water
Thanks for the information. The guitar looks amazing.
Beauty!
Good work. It looked like you could dunk the body and just leave it there while you dunk the pickguard and headstock, no?
Sometines I don't even wish to swirl this paint around. :)
Call it the Melted Murica!
I like it, I think I would have used a plain pickguard though;
Great job ,looks awesome. Cool video, be even better without the elevator music.
Where did the blue color come from!?
When i buy a guitar, i will write "The Guitar Is Mine, Fuck You" behind it
Just for the lols

Yes I just spray painted the pickups
ok thx for the info

Well, I was wrong about the water temperature part. Warm water is still ideal.
What is he up to drip the paint like that?
hey groovieguy,
often my paint keeps on drying to quick and makes a "skin" on the water... any suggestion?

Alright, I will watch that video and try again with those tips, might come back to you to tell you if it worked or not :)
thnx :)
Oh and just regular water right or are you putting borax in it? I usually never put borax
With Magic Marble paints just straight water
I'd like to see a video on clean up. What do you do with the tank? Obviously you can't just wash that paint down the drain.
seeburgm100a I've seen people use newspaper to soak up the paint, then I would guess they just throw it away and dump the water.

how much would it cost to have someone do this on average ?
Do it yourself !
Nice finish, but I think that you could've swirl the oil less, so that the circles would've been bigger.

What do you do with the water after you dip the guitar
Throw it away?
drink it

You have to thin the paint with mineral spirits

Hey is the water initially black or just the tub making it seem that way
The tub makes the water look black, its just clear water
Nice, what paint do you use?
Grandad Certified read desc.
Grandad Certified Magic Marble paints
Thanks what color blue is it?
cool
cool, but would love to hear the how and why and not the cheesy music.

No, it’s just straight water and Magic Marble paints check out my other videos I talk about what I use

why don't guitar players actually play these swirl painted guitars on stage. Seems like such a missed opportunity.
That’s the guitar Super Mario would play.
