You're talking about the guys who performed naked with socks on their dicks (or without, Woodstock 1999), recorded dumb songs like "Party On Your Pussy", french-kissed each other in music videos and on magazine covers and would do all kinds of crazy shit. They definately were one of the more scandalous mainstream bands back in the day.

By The Way and Stadium Arcadium have some of the tightest grooves in modern music. Flea's bass lines are fire, and John Frusciante's guitar playing is god tier. How could anyone not like them?

Had a conversation on this topic fairly recently with someone and it's weird this video came up in my recommended. RHCP are a band that I am mostly indifferent to in thought, perceive myself to hate them but realise I actually don't really care for them and do enjoy a few of their songs. I wouldn't ever listen to them voluntarily but I can tolerate them... if that makes sense.

RHCP will forever be the most overlooked band from a critical standpoint. “One Hot Minute is pretty good” and no mention at all of their greatest album Californication... wow. BSSM could be argued as their greatest work in a sense, but it’s not as versatile or polished as Californication, so Californication wins. Even the question of that tweet is stupid and shows you how criminally underrated the rhcp are as a band. Their music is unique, incredibly smart musically, and most importantly timeless. Fantano clearly doesn’t have enough sex or get enough sun. If he did, his opinion would change.
Californication is a good album but it has some filler and the CD version was disgusting to the ears because of the mixing. Clipped beyond belief.

I thank RHCP for bringing John Frusciante into the collective consciousness. without that band, I dont know if he makes Niandra LaDes thus Shadows Collide With People. His solo work is extremely diverse and, to me, very important. Ataxia, the electronica album with Josh Klinghoffer. If youre a serious Frusciante-ite, then RHCP is just tunes with spurts of greatness, e.g. Under the Bridge.
I listen to them every day pretty much and I'm so fucking glad John is coming back, I don't have a favourite song/album because pretty much all of the songs a great in different ways. Can't beat em :)

I don't know, I still listen to By The Way because it is one of the first albums that got me into rock.
I saw them in concert back in the eighties with Oingo Boingo. It was awesome. Their music has been(and still is) the soundtrack to alot of our lives. RHCP are a great band, full of originality, musicianship and some awesome song writing.
It's interesting how he mentioned Foo Fighters in the RHCP bit. I feel the same. Both good bands with a lot of songs I enjoy/wouldn't turn off if they came on but I don't actively seek out or buy their music.

Just recently started watching and I love the videos!
I think people tend to mostly gravitate towards only one Red Hot Chili Peppers era and then they only casually like the rest. There's Hillel, John Part 1, Navarro (I assume some people like that album?), John Part 2, and Josh. Given how different they sound between each of these it's hard for anyone to really love more than one or two eras in my opinion. John Part 2 is what got me into the band, By The Way being my favorite album. I listen to BSSM/Mother's Milk a decent amount, and the album's with Josh occasionally. I do think Dark Necessities stands up with their best from any other album.

Scar Tissue, Otherside, The Zephyr Song, Desecration Smile, and Strip My Mind are my favorites from those albums.

man, i think it's cool how the chili's have developed over the years. i wasnt born when they dropped BSSM i vaguely remember Californication but holy fuck, when they dropped By The Way, everyone my age was obsessed with them. i think they're just a timeless band who've put out great music, that even if you don't dig their albums you can cherry pick their best songs and still come up with a great compilation set. I don't listen to them as much as i used to but i think they'll always have a special funkin place in my heart... + they seem to be such likeable energetic chaps!
All three of them were on fire when they came out. I think BSSM took a little longer to make the rounds but Californication was legendary.
It’s crazy how every album they drop they get a new generation obsessed. These recent years have somewhat lacked that effect because of John not being in the band, but even John doesn’t know what the future holds for him, he could want to be in a rock band again some day. He just doesn’t know. These are his words btw

My favorite Red Hot Chili Peppers album is still Californication and that came out the summer I was headed into high school. There old stuff is fun, but something about the lyrics and the music on album Californication has stuck with me for a long time.

Those early albums all had awesome songs on them and even the songs that weren't so great had a great feel to them.
The self-titled RHCP album, Uplift Mofo Party Plan, Mother's Milk and Freaky Styley are the best but least heard of albums. Most people listen to and judge them on the okay albums that came after.

with the trap thing i remember when my country had a pretty large country/singer songwriter boom and honestly it was pretty amazing, and still our newer more electro and trap like music is still pretty great
absolutely, jon era chili peppers i still listen to frequently, specifically, bssm, californication and by the way, parts of stadium arcadium, but mostly just the first three are what i actually still listen to regularly. aside from those three albums, no, i almost never play any of the other stuff... jon is one kf my fsvorite rock guitarists ever and he's also a pretty solid songwriter as well...
