Teenage me (and many others) needed to hear the 'no shitting on other music genres' message. Also, just because bands have a beef doesn't mean the fans have to as well. Metal got me through my adolescence but now I'm in my 40's what I enjoy listening to changes week to week. Metal is still great for relieving anxiety though.

@@Lumimyrsky this might be the most controversial opinion I've ever shared online about metal, but to me, djent would be the most intense metal genre: that's because djent' extreme technicality is able to smoothly blend ridiculously complex and extremely basic musical structures together, as well as provide the listener with very erudite and complicated meanings behind lyrics and themes, but it doesn't simply sounds unusual, they do seem to work flawlessly without sounding ridiculous, in other words, djent isn't weird for the sake of being weird. To me, I don't find "intense" or "extreme" what tries to be fast or brutal for the sake of being their way, it's the type of music that you don't expect to exist, it's about how you can experiment with the most unusual sounds and visuals together to create a very unique atmosphere that psychologically triggers different emotions together, and because metal itself is an incredibly diverse and open-minded subculture, it's only fair to say that djent itself fulfills metal's ultimate goal of neverending experimentation. I'm fully aware that genres like grindcore, pornogrind, slam, brutal death metal and every black metal genre ecc, which are supposed to have a very uneasy and disturbing feel towards the listeners are way more than just extreme genres, but younger kids are most likely to deny their hidden values and just consider them cool because they sound brutal af and that's it, so basically I understand when this is coming from. Sorry for the long comment, but I had to vent a bit about my "blasphemous" opinions.
Cannibal corpse has good music, but its lame when that's the only death metal they know

These people are like: Hey! you want to hear this super unknown band? they are called Cannibal Corpse. There's more to Extreme Metal than Cannibal Corpse and Mayhem, right? Stuff like: Hellfynder, Unholy Night, Gallhammer, Dishammer, Deathhammer, Abigail, Barbatos, Cruel Force, Whipstriker, Vomitor, Sadistik Exekution, Condor etc. Sabbat is a good example though, i have to give them that.

Thank you for talking about the elitism and gatekeeping. I'm turning 21 in a month and I've listened to metal literally since I was born but I'm not afraid of exploring new music. I love billie eilish for example, she's awesome. Falling in reverse released a song called "voices in my head", a song that has a lot of trap and rap influence, about a week ago and that song is quickly becoming one of my favorite songs of all time. Just listen to what you want, man👍🤘!
I am also a metalhead who loves Billie Eilish! I like Bruno Mars as well. Like 95% I listen to is metal but I also regularly play old country and disco.

Millenials are tarnishing the beautiful image of metal and I find that older and more obscure metal is best. but posers are those who tell, show or boast others they like and listen to metal but really do not enjoy or listen. like just playing for namesake once in awhile, while listening to pop / other genres he/ she loves. metalhead means you listen to metal, popular or not in a daily basis/ or when you want listen to some music.
