This is Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door!
The game everyone loves and loves to tell you about how much they love it. If you've been here for a while you might have noticed we like it quite a bit too. Though usually our playthroughs are some kind of challenge run where we skip all text to get to the gameplay. BUT NOT THIS TIME!
This playthrough is part of our out of order conquest to casually relive all Paper Mario games, together with my co-comm Lenny! Just in time for the remake to get a good feel of what's changed from a more casual perspective!
Like usual; if there's any cool secrets, obscure or funny dialogue and details you know about, be sure to tell us in the comments or on Discord. I know a lot about this game, but I don't know literally everything! Also I might just forget certain things.

super pedantic commenter here-- a dirigible is not the same as a blimp. while both are forms for lighter-than-air air travel, they differ in their propulsion and internal structure. Whilst a blimp is non-rigid and its propellers are placed attached to the cabin, dirigibles have rigid steel supports and propellers placed at the rear, with the rudder and stabilizer fins.

2:14 You know, despite Mario's partners noticing that something is different about Mario at the Mayor's House (which is still an optional cutscene), why are they jot more suspicious NOW, especially given that this is a mandatory cutscene? As far as they know, they already have the Ruby Star and should be heading back to The Thousand-Year Door to find the location of the next Crystal Star. Instead, "Mario" takes them BACK to Creepy Steeple, and they're just like, "Yeah, okay, that makes sense."

I mean, you guys KNOW that the Door's seal is weakening and that Mario's efficient at getting the Crystal Stars, why not just ambush him after- 17:55 Oh, you do that anyway and still try to stop him on the way? Gotcha.

So one thing I’m surprised I didn’t see mentioned- When Dooplis collects the Crystal Star, he doesn’t raise his boots as high off the ground in the “Chapter Complete” sequence when compared to Mario.
All he does is hold up his arms and look at it. He doesn't cheer either
A bigger question I have is where exactly this Crystal Star came from?
@@Shantae1188 I believe somewhere in the game it does mention how each Crystal Star got where it currently resides so I won’t spoil that. Just in case they do go over it in this playthrough.
@@glitchthegamer6747 It’s less how it got placed there and more, how on Earth does the Crystal Star; for lack of a better term, “change hands” before the revolution?
The grind doesn't stop for anybody
I wish that in the remake, after you correctly guess Doopliss' name, he just runs into twilight town and you fight him there instead of back in the steeple. There's no chance they make that change but it would sure be neat if they did. And like at the start of the fight, all the villagers could be in the audience cheering on fake mario and throwing him items, but after seeing how rude he is to his partners and how nice you are to Vivian, they eventually catch on and start helping you instead.
Okay, good, no infinite Bowser retries this time! The Bowser interludes always are great to see.

15:26 let’s go!^^ still my favourite partner in this game. I just really like her and her story. Even in battle I always found her useful enough to justify simply never switching off of her besides tattling.
Hopefully they give Doopliss Mario more attacks than just: Hammer, jump and spin jump. He should be able to use some badge attacks and items

That rendition of the leitmotif from Resurrections for the 1v1 in Stage 6 is fantastic.
I like how dupe is both duplicate and deceitful.

I doubt they'll do this in the remake, but I'd like it if they add a switch in the part of Creepy Steeple with the parrot that creates a pipe between Twilight Town and Creepy Steeple.
That way, you'd only need to go on the Twilight Trail three times instead of five: once with your partners, once by yourself on the way back, and then once more with Vivian.
They did exactly that.

Kinda funny you didn't know about Doopliss going back to town for the partners. Would have loved knowing what the partners would think of "Mario" taking them back to the Steeple for seemingly no reason in an extra cutscene or something. Also it makes sense to ask about Doopliss since he's the only chapter boss that gets away (except the X-Nauts/Crump but they're constant foes in the story), compared to the other bosses which you defeat and their stories end then and there
Cortez sails his ship as much as he pleases. Hooktail flips over defeated but vanishes mysteriously.
Grubba is odd not to hear about. I would have liked a final word of his whereabouts or possible arrest when Jolene takes over the Glitz Pit.
@@runningoncylinders3829 Maybe the remake will have Grubba in the post Chapter 3 cutscene being taken away or something. Hell even a line of dialogue about his whereabouts would be good enough
6:14 I would've said the same as Lenny except not for balance reasons, but for technical ones i.e. avoiding potential glitches.
12:21 As we've established when he healed himself by absolutely doing nothing unlike Hooktail for example, Doopliss is the king of cheaters.
16:28 I mean, Hooktail is dead, Magnus von Grapple exploded while Lord Crump most certainly went back to the X-Nauts' base and Grubba was arrested as Lenny mentioned so it really is just Doopliss who fled to an unspecified location.

If you theoretically upgraded Vivian mid chapter (which you obviously can’t since you can’t leave), would she retain the super status in the battle?
