- FIRST DRIVE: The Crown is here and Toyota wants to break the mold for the luxury sedan. On the outside you will see full LED lighting, raised body, optional wheels and two-tone paint. On the insid there is a 12.3in infotainment system, digital gauge cluster and leather seating. Under the hood is a 2.4L turbocharged inline-4 that is paired with an electric motor to produce 330HP & is mated to a 6-speed automatic and features AWD. Just purchased the limited model. Love this vehicle. The technology behind it, the ride is very comfortable, along with the seating. Still learning all the gadgets and functionality of everything. Ive had lots of praise on the look of the car. Nice that someone over at Toyota thought to include the JBL sound system. As expected in luxury vehicle. Also, the limited 2.4 liter engine provides enough torque to satisfy without the fuel consumption of the turbo. So far so good.
It’s sad that this version doesn’t include the iconic crown badge on the front
That hurts it is not there.
@@RaitisRides Bidens HORRIBLE economy also hurts.... unfortunately many Americans suffer from "Trump Derangement syndrome" thanks to CNN and MSNBC, I hope people can afford this 50k Toyota.........

Best review on this I've seen. This car is the answer for people who want better handling than a crossover will give them, but it also has ground clearance and power as well as AWD for snowy days.
this one will be perfect for winter tires
No fake vents or exhaust tips, I love it.
I would not pay $53,000 for this vehicle. Plus the 2 tone on the hood is throwing me off. Just my humble opinion. But the review is second to none like always. Keep up the good work and high energy flowing.
I know it is not everyone's cup of tea!
I’ve been waiting for this one! Joe, I REALLY appreciate you using a thorough and standardized format for your reviews. You don’t miss anything because you don’t jump all over the place! I always watch your reviews all the way through the first time but if I need to go back to a particular part, I can always tell exactly where to find the info I am looking for. WHY nobody else does this is beyond me, but it makes your reviews excellent!
Thank you Adam! I love bringing all the details to you!
I think they all do this I watch 6 others and they all follow a pattern.
That Grill is Ugly as hell. And that piano black plastic will show all the rock chips an damage it will take. Geez Toyota. Hybrid? No thanks. Just more problems. Especially the way quality, customer service, inflation, an chip shortages of today. People aren't also doing their Jobs right any more.
Heck No !!
@@Misael8924 Agree! That grill is awful. I don't like that design and that plastic on the side of the door...no sir! Terrible looking. You are so right in that rocks and road debris are going to kick up on that thing and it's going to look crazy in no time at all. The Hybrid is not my preference but it looks like we are being groomed towards electric whether we like it or not. It's the future.
Aw man! We are getting closer to that million mark! I'm so happy to see the growth of this channel! Keep it up Team Raitis!

You give a car review like nobody else. Great job!
My dad had a 1977 Crown. I loved it so much that I wanted to buy something similar when I grew up. I ended up with a Lexus LS430 to give me the same feel. Lexus GS was supposedly built on a Toyota Crown model for the US market but it went out of production. Interesting to see they are bringing a less luxury Crown to the US. The true Toyota Crown doesn’t have a Toyota logo but a Crown.
Looking forward to seeing what they bring over to the new 2024 Camry redesign . Great review as always Joe 😁

I think 53k is a bit too much for the features you get!
What do you think the price should be
@@RaitisRides Joe, 45k would be a fair price for this car, but you're the professional here and I would like to know what do you think a good price would be?
@@hasanfadhil6404 I think you nailed it!
I can buy a Lexus for not much more than 53 thousand.
@@alanhumphrey4198 yeah top model NX goes for 58k, but I personally wouldn't buy a hybrid or electric car it's not worth it for me.
Neatly designed, two tone color is tasteful
I agree with the wheel fender trim should be body colored. Thanks Lori for your hard work behind the camera!👍👍
Lori is the best in the biz.
I'm gonna have to zonk the pricing for the upper trims. I was on the Toyota website a few days ago. $41050 for the XLE, $46450 for Limited +2950 for upgrade, and $53445 for Platinum. The ideal pricing I would've like to see is $43000 for Limited +2000 for upgrade and $47500 for Platinum. The trims are waaaay too deep in lexus price territory, the way they were marketing it they should've just given the crown its own US sub-brand between toyota and lexus with the crown badge. (Which isn't even an option 😡)
$53K for a new car is not wise for anyone. Nice car, but definitely not worth it.
The King and Queen of car reviews are showing us the Crown.
Beautiful car, great color. Thanks for bringing it to us, Joe and Lori.
You are so very kind my friend!
I really like what Toyota has done here. I love two-tone paint schemes and this looks good. It's a departure from the norm with respect to the sheet metal, which is a good thing for Toyota. Power train is sufficient, although it seems like it would be quicker considering the hp/tq numbers and the AWD. The only downside would be the interior materials. Just seems a bit dull and uninspired.
I can totally understand where you are coming from.
the interior is like that because its material that last a long time. all about reliability.
@@jessemolina4901 that doesn't change the fact that it's dull and kind of bland. It's not all about reliability.
@@tri3pleagent for Toyota it obviously is. Have some common sense man Toyota only cares about reliability, if you want a nice interior then get a Lexus
@@jessemolina4901 that's completely untrue. The interiors in some of their top of the line trucks and SUVs are much nicer. I said what I said. The interior is dull and uninspired for a vehicle in this segment and at this price point.
Looking forward to seeing a base trim model. $40k is more my max than $50k. At $50k it is just a bit too expensive for me.

I love the two-tone color of the Crown, but comparing the 2022 to the 2023, I think I like the 2022 Crown in bronze best. They both have a few of the Avalon features, if you happen to lock your keys in the trunk, as I've done, the secret button on the trunk saved the day.
I am glad that you are liking this one Cynthia!
There was no 2022 Crown in the North American market so what exactly are you talking about?
@@simul8guy75 Other markets got a full series of crowns; sedan, this crossover, wagon
The exterior actually looks nice and futuristic but the interior personally, it’s decent. I hope there’s more trim colors on the doors instead of whole black
I'm intrigued by the Crown. It's definitely an interesting design choice, but might fit a niche people are looking for. Not sure why the MPGs are so much higher on the other trims, which is I think is what a lot of people are wanting nowadays. Especially, since the Premium has the "better" drivetrain. What I'm not looking forward to, though, are the massive dealer markups these will inevitably have. MSRP might be $53k for the Premium, but I feel like the OTD price will be closer to $70k after dealer markup and any taxes/fees your state might tack on.
I like the way you think 🤔
It is a completely different engine in the other trim levels. That’s why mpgs is different
@@wazzzzupfilms2222 You are correct. I just find it odd the Platinum gets significantly worse MPGs even though it has the best engine/hybrid drivetrain. Not saying mileage is the end all be all, but it’s definitely more of a selling point than it ever has been.
Absolutely love it!!! Only issue I have with it is it’s hybrid. And all options are hybrid included 💔
Well done car by Toyota, even better performance by Joe! Just bought 2022 VW Arteon SEL R Line and while not as efficient love the liftback and room inside the car. Thanks for the frequent videos keeping us updated Joe!
You are so very welcome! Congrats Robert on your Arteon
Someone in my apartment garage just got one of those blacked out. I think it looks great and im not a big fan of VW.
The Arteon is much smoother, modern, looking ride. That Crown is Ugly in the front. That plastic piano black Grill which will Chip off and the back doesn't fit the rest of the car. Plus a Hybrid ? more stuff to break. Not with the world is heading. People and businesses aren't even doing their Jobs right anymore. Everything is a headache.
So excited for this channel. I even watch the videos of cars I'm not in the market for just to push the algorithm along. Great work, 900K is coming! 🤘
Thanks Mark for being on the journey with us
Been waiting patiently for this review. Hope you can also bring us the limited. Can you speak to the ease of getting in and out of the vehicle? Is it as easy to get into as an SUV vs a traditional Camry style sedan?
I will be bringing you the two other trims so stay tuned.
I remember Raiti having couple thousand subs just 2 years ago. Channel is growing so fast. Great review like always 😊
Expected more from the inside, but the outside is gorgeous. Idk about 50k though. I'm interested in what the lower models look like.
I still hope they had a na option. I absolutely hate when they force people into hybrid options.
Hybrid sucks
I agree
Not going to happen.
Good thing they make a million other cars just don’t buy this one, simple.
For 53K I think it’s missing finer details like automatic tilt steering, what’s the point of having users in their new system? And I’d like the touch points to be metal. And no I don’t want Lexus, I love nimbleness of Toyota. Nice car overall.
Excellent way to put it!
Think they are saving those for the Newly designed ES for 25.
It definitely is a nice looking vehicle and if it has the typical Toyota reliability, I think it’s worth it. 😊👍
Thanks for sharing your perspective on this one!
With the headlights and downward curve of the hood and the way the fenders curve in, it looks a lot like a Mustang in the front.
👍🏻
Isn’t every car reliable these days
@@eyeque7 Of the major brands yes whether it be Ford or Toyota or GM and the non-Fiat Chrysler products. Kia tho has had major engine issues. You really don't see too many cars broken down along the road tho unless they are super old or ran out of gas.
Its so nice. Very fair price. Can't beat toyota quality and reliability. It has a huge presence on the road.
You always give the BEST reviews.., but I'll NEVER buy an electric vehicle.
Wow, that 2.4 is in everything ! Looks really good……for those who still want a sedan. I’m not loving the two tone paint.
I’m glad to see you like this one Tom.
I don’t like this color, but definitely a very nice car that doesn’t look cheap with a lot of tech. I was watching a video on the higher trim of the Camry and it’s $40,000. It looked so cheap on the inside and didn’t look like a $40,000 car. Now this crown I will say is worth the price. A little bummed because I won’t be able to afford it, but definitely a beautiful car. The screen is amazing.
I really like the color.
You’re crazy as hell coming from someone with the highest trim Camry. The leather is very real and well put together, the soft touch dashboard, nice red color for the leather, huge pano roof, what seemed cheap??
Definite big ZONK on this car for no hood struts. SMH Toyota. WT Heck?
That really surprised me!
I'm surprised the Crown has been a hidden gem for so long.
It is famous in Africa
I must say, the exterior design of the vehicle is quite impressive. However, I am not entirely certain that it is appropriate to classify it as a luxury sedan. The absence of hood struts, even on the lower trim level, is a notable drawback. Additionally, the interior appears to be rather inexpensive, with a plethora of plastic and coated urethane materials. My expectations may be quite high, but it is unfortunate that Toyota consistently falls short in the final stages of production. If Toyota is planning to release this vehicle as a luxury sedan with price points nearing 50K, it is likely that there are more suitable options available for potential buyers to consider.
wow 53k this is gonna be huge debate between the luxury lexus es 350 it’s fairly close to the price point !! gas mileage is a big plus and looks big on the side profile !!! Thanks J&L
I guess the one thing you are getting with the Crown is the unique style
@Nobody you are spot on the money.
Yeah i would take a 350 f sport with the sound package and save money. Or if i have more money i would do the is 500.
@@RaitisRides its all the outside though. The inside looks like a slightly upscale toyota.
Unique style… I think Pontiac Aztek
Looks great from the outside, it is alright inside. However, for 50k+ I would probably go for a different brand.
Yea 50k is Lexus territory
Good review Joe, I think Toyota is in a class of it's own with this vehicle.
I think you are so right Courtney.
Toyota is running itself into the ground with these ugly new car designs
The black trims above the wheels are a very smart idea. In other areas the roads are not as clean as in the USA. Alot of dirt and small rocks usually hit those areas. If it was painted or was metal it would chip and expose the underlying metal or black plastic. So, making it black and plastic is a very good idea. Wish they started doing that much sooner.

Thank you Joe and Lori! The only thing preventing me from canceling my Jeep order and getting the Crown are the rear seat controls...every high-end top-trim car/suv these days should have rear climate control, ventilated seats (cooled and heated), and the four charging options. I'll have teenage kids in a few years, and I don't see this working for them. The Crown dropped the ball in the back; major Zonk. Everything else is spectacular!! Thanks again!

@@iam4usee So you are cross shopping a Cherokee and a Toyota car? Gotcha.
@@pryme2013 I wouldn't say I'm cross-shopping these two, specifically. There are so many awesome cars coming out this year and next, and I appreciate beautiful and different cars. The Crown, for example, sits on 21s and has a high, raised suv-type profile. I won't go off road in the Jeep, or do anything spectacular with it...I may get rid of the air suspension because of all the potential issues that exist with it, especially with Midwest weather, so there's that, among other things. So please, before you try to get smart, understand first. Thanks, and God Bless!

I just test drove the limited. Absolutely loved it. Very smooth plenty of power and it’s stunning in person.
Thanks for this, guys. Lively out there in Nashville land! I think it's worth the price but I'd prefer the gas savings of the lower trims with CVT to be honest. Although Toyota cars are not known for their designs but for their rugged engines and long-lasting performances, this one is impressive in terms of outer looks. An SUV merged with the sedan kinda look is a pretty out-of-the-box design thought. A hybrid powertrain is good too.

Unfortunately two tone is only available on the platinum trim
IMO, I think keeping the bottom trim flat black and the the trim around the wheels gloss black, will look kinda off. So, I see why they made it flat black around the wheels. Maybe gloss black all around. But, have to worry about getting rock chips dings all around. So, it's pretty much damn if you do and damn if you don't..lol.
That's exactly what I thought too!
You could have the lower trim and wheel well trim vinyl wrapped in gloss black to match the other trim.
Another great job, Joe in your evaluation... a couple questions out there would be... why not HUD for the top end vehicle as an option at least? Any plans as I have it on my Avalon Touring and love it. Other question was on price point.. You said $53k approx. Is that with all possible factory options?? Thanks again team at Raiti's Rides--y'all are AWESOME!!

We are all tired of the cvt transmissions. This is a bit of a maintenance nightmare with all wheel drive, power to each wheel, and the split power to front and rear, I would like to see how many miles before you need real service. Timing belt or chain? 53k is way too high
I must be living under a rock, I never heard of the crown till today, what an amazing vehicle !
Nice numbers on HP and LB/Ft of Torque. Especially on hybrid max. Good power and mpg balance! Only personal not pick is the back end, if it’s not a hatchback function, they should have made it boxier so a spoiler could go on it, specially on the red and white colors. And two tones. That’s my personal taste tho not everyone like spoilers. I think it would match the aggression of the front fascia. Otherwise loving it!
I am so glad that you are digging this one.
340hp is incredibly decent
I think luxury and premium are becoming interchanged too much…..premium as in step up above let’s say the entry midsize sedan then yes. I’d put this on par with Mazdas top trim levels which are premium. But to use the luxury term at a luxury price point is a stretch. This is entry level+ Bmw, Lexus, Mercedes, and Genesis. This is not luxury but it is nice.
.
$53k is a no for me but GO TOYOTA 😅
That’s a very good point!
Yeah for $52k I'm buying a luxury brand car at that price unless it's a Toyota truck or something. Anything German or a Genesis like you said, a Cadillac is cool, hell I'd even take an Infiniti. This Crown should top out around $42k fully decked.
I love how Joe gets picky sometimes. When reviewing the backup camera features, he wished the safety warning was smaller 13:38. I literally laughed when I heard that and was like, "common Joe."
