Well this game was made for a computer that costed as much as a car so it’s not that far fetched to expect a product this visually pleasing for a system made in the 80s that has specs similar to 5th gen consoles
When I saw it, I thought "hey this game looks gorgeous" buuuuuuut I thought it was from 88-89. When I realized it's from 1993, I just went back to believe Super Castlevania IV is the best of them all. It also plays so much better. And it's from 1991!
The x68000 was just such an awesome machine. It seems about 5 years ahead of its time as this looks (AND SOUNDS FOR SURE) nicer than most arcade machines of the time
I remember someone commenting on a video of haunted castle, which is like an arcade version of this, that "he walks like he really needs to take a shit" LMAO
I had no problem beating it for the first time today. But now it is the second round and i can say it is Hard and the enemys are very fast! A Masterpiece
Easily the absolute greatest Castlevania game. The 'Metroidvania' style games tend to be very messy, especially Symphony of the Night. That game required a stream of logic at times that was just ridiculous. And Super Castlevania IV broke the design laws the game had in place by giving more player control. No other game in the series is this refined and utterly perfect! Thanks for the upload, and great job! :D
+Nelsun Erdison (eXOdus) It's funny because DOOM was released the same year as this version of Castlevania...But that was the point of your comment, wasn't it?
NEON 7 haha yeah That just made me think, was Doom popular in Japan upon release? I think someone who could play 16-bit Castlevania on an uber-powerful arcade specs computer might not even blink an eye at Doom at the time lol
Ultima games... They mostly featured hexagrams, but I'm pretty sure there are pentagrams in those games too... Akalabeth (often called Ultima 0) even has a pentagram on the cover.
Thank you, I actually gave up, on this emulator a year ago. lol! I have the game, but for the PlayStation emulator instead, the game is the same as the x68000 version of the game. Great game. I'm playing right now another castlevania game for the Xbox 360, castlevania harmony of despair . I'm playing hard mode and, Man that's some tough game.
Wow, this is like a super-hard "greatest hits" Castlevania game. Good play through. So, question: what happens if you approach the stage 6 boss with hearts?
The enemy AI is really impressive - developers, take note! It's quite obvious that the hardware is much more advanced than the SNES (despite being 2 years older!)
Not always. Compare the MSX to the NES. MSX is better in a few areas but it's a business machine so despite the hardware being similar the NES tends to be better when it comes to gaming.
Two things I noticed in this version versus the "original" version included in Chronicles. 1. All graphics move faster and smoother. 2. Midi here sounds a bit different, it sounds like the 2nd midi sound (there were 3 different sound modes for Chronicles) but different.
The X68000 was almost identical to the Capcom CPS1 hardware that the likes of Street Fighter 2 and Final Fight ran on. It was used as the dev kit for this arcade machine as well. Castlevania running on arcade hardware.
Thank goodness you're playing the Japanese version. The North American version was altered for some reason. In the North American version the subweapons were not able to break blocks, and the Japanese voices were cut out.
Well, this explains why "Original Mode" in Chronicles is a bold-faced lie to anyone who only knew of the NES game. It wasn't saying WHICH CV1 it was actually based on.
Thank God for the native save file function in this game, it would be ridiculous if you had to do all levels in a row with 3 lives. At 29:23, there's a joke of a turkey leg among those blocks to the left. When whipped, it will fall down to the lower level, re-spawning all the enemies there as you drop down in a hurry to collect it before it disappears. Even when I need it, I never even bother... I hate that room in general - nothing but flying enemies and stairs, everyone's favorite cocktail in CV.
Try Rondo of Blood. Especially the Dracula X Chronicles. Super Akumajou Dracula on SFC is quite bloody at times too. I don't mean the snes version, which is shit, as is the aforementioned console unlike the SFC it is based on. The original is the glorious uncensored gory one, but it along with Seal of the Curse on FDS (the better version of Simon's Quest) are in dire need of fan translations for English speakers like with Devil's Castle Legend (Dracula's Curse) and the PSP versions of the two Dracula X games including the remake they are part of.
@@lionocyborg6030 Lol, There is no "Super Akumajou Dracula" for the SFC. Actually the game is called just "Akumajou Dracula" I mean without the Super. 😂
Comic Book Guy I already know that, idiot. I call it "Super Akumajou Dracula" because just reusing the title of the original game gets confusing, especially as Konami also did that not just for the Sharp port here, but the MSX2 one and even the N64 game, which isn't even a port of the first one. So adding "Super" to the title informs the player that it's the Super Famicom version specifically.
@@lionocyborg6030 Just saying Akumajou Dracula for the SFC is enough dumbass ! SFC means Super Famicom and that indicates to the people who read your comment which Akumajou Dracula you are taliking about. There is no need tu add Super. We are not idiots like you.
Poor Simon...the guy goes to all this effort time and time again (Castlevania, Vampire Killer, Haunted Castle, Super Castlevania IV, and Castlevania Chronicles), and what thanks does he get for it? A lousy curse...on on the most horrible nights, too.
Once i had the chance to play it on the X68k (i think it was the only one x68k in the whole republic :D) and then years later on the PS1 ... go for the Castlevania Chronicles .. its the same thing ...
If anyone is wondering, the dolls at 29:00 say this:
Waking up - "Who are you?(rude)"/"Welcome(polite)"
Evading - "Stop it!"
Death - "No!"
Quite impressive you can hear that, I can't make out a single syllable over the music.
Wow that's fucked
Thanks!
Ah, now it makes sense what they're saying. Thanks!
I heard "nya".
MIDI jams got me sweatin'
I do like how Blood Skeletons are actually bloody in this version, as opposed to the other versions where they just crumble into a pile of bones.
"no death Walkthrough"
so he's skipping the death fight?
19:10 - Stained glass golem = badass.
46:00 - Is it just me or does Dracula look like the Joker in a black suit and cape?
For 1993, this game looks incredible.
Well this game was made for a computer that costed as much as a car so it’s not that far fetched to expect a product this visually pleasing for a system made in the 80s that has specs similar to 5th gen consoles

Back when Konami was still good. This is the Konami we choose to remember.
4:13 That insane bass riff during the Giant Bat fight is nuts. My fingers hurt just thinking about playing that fast slapping and plucking.
39:30 I was promised a no Death walkthrough!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA SUCH A FUNNY JOKE HAHAHAHAHAHA
Ohhhh I get it!
Cultists in purple robes resurrect Dracula at the start, then Belmont is attacked by purple-clad zombies in the first stage.
Coincidence!?
The x68000 was just such an awesome machine. It seems about 5 years ahead of its time as this looks (AND SOUNDS FOR SURE) nicer than most arcade machines of the time
X68000 is basically arcade machine in home computer form. CPS1 hardware is exactly this.
the bloody tears remix on this game is awesome, great playthrough!
Wow, what an awesome version! The X68000 never ceases to amaze me.
Even on a crappy modern MIDI synthesiser, the music still sounds awesome.
13:40 Nosferatu!
he was flecking the lights
Zodd
Simon has such an awkward walk cycle in this game. It looks like a limping version of the Belmont strut.
+Pan Z He has a Backproblem from all the whipping
Pan Z they modeled his walk cycle after you.
part of the issue is the aspect ratio, everything is squeezed horizontally, look at the orbs and gears and you'll see.
I remember someone commenting on a video of haunted castle, which is like an arcade version of this, that "he walks like he really needs to take a shit" LMAO
He sure relies on that axe for every boss battle. Wondering what would happen if he lost it.
It's near-impossible to clear.
Simon's walking like he's got a load in his pants, but the castle graphics remind me somewhat of SoTN.
Hurray for Simon Belmondo
The dolls say, お前はだれ!?WHO are YOU!? 帰れなさいLeave here
The soundtrack on this system sounds awesome.
Way better-looking than Super Castlevania IV!
The sprites, animations and color combinations in scenarios are superb

He'll spam same subweapon you currently have at the cost of your remaining hearts.
@@ArekTheDragon Oh yuck. I hate bosses like those.
I love how Dracula's head falls off after the first form is defeated.

Not the same hardware at all.
simply amazing on the Sharp X68000
Best sound of Castlevania
Castlevania Chronicles was a remake of this game :)

Oh, he must be in charge of a Pachinko machine nowadays. Good enough.
But they put Bloody Tears in the stage with a giant Athena statue *actually* crying blood tears, which is nice.

This looks amazing for being 30 years old. I would have enjoyed this way more than the NES version.
Is the X68000 difficult to emulate? Or should I just get Castlevania Chronicles for the PSX?
The Reason why this game is Hard is because of Simon's Poor Speed makes him hard to Dodge Attacks.
this game is great
