Feeding meatballs to Pluto, the megaesophagus dog!

  • Gaining weight for your megaesophagus dog is no easy task. They need to be fed in an upright position to allow gravity to take on the chore of the useless esophagus. For 6 years the meatball method worked for Pluto. Swallowing soft whole meatballs allowed him to gain and maintain a good healthy weight.
    I hope this video helps anyone struggling to find a method that works for their ME dog. Each dog is different but when you find a way that works, stick to it. Don't fix what isn't broken.

    How did you decide on the size of the bolus?

      Size of the meatball? It was trial and error. If it was too large he would eat half of it and spit the other half out. Too small and he wouldn't swallow it correctly and we would more often than not be seeing it again. I guess it depends on the size of the dog. Slightly bigger than a golf ball but smaller than a tennis ball.

      @@plutomedog Interesting - thanks for the reply. I tried a meatball with my dog, but he is extremely picky and it only works some of the time. Patience is a virtue...
