This is good but can we talk about US government taking international citizens hostage "unjustly". Just because you imprison them in Guantanamo Bay doesnt make it right. We are doing the same to so many others.

b: a person taken by force to secure the taker's demands

The family members of the family, including the newborn baby, were taken hostage by the military council. In Mandalay, a brother-in-law and two sisters were abducted after a search of the house failed to find a lawyer, and communication was lost four days later. The next day, she was traumatized and died of poisoning..

A lot of these people are clandestine Christian Missionaries y'know. They behave under the belief that they are an exceptionaly gifted individual, and universal representative of all humanity, both at once. As tourists, they wander about taking lots of photos, asking stupid questions, pointing out what's right and wrong--Like policemen, eating cheap lousy and fattening foods, and in lots of places, it just drives local people out of their minds while they smile, smile, smile, and sell, sell, sell in order to satisfy needs, needs, needs. Tourists aren't always wanted, or desired. Tourism is, in fact, big, BIG industry involving tons of money.

Thank you! I was told stories when our great grandma was force to believe in a religion and was not allowed to believe in Buddhism. I did not learn about this until I was in my late 30s. One of the most annoying thing that I come across in life are Christians. I have no issue with friends believing in anything they desire but it crosses the line when they shove their religion on you. So far it's been all Christians. I hope the damn Christians see this message and leave people alone.

Journalists - actual journalists; not simply talking heads or 'opinion hosts' on TV - do not get the respect they deserve. Theirs' is a dangerous profession at times, and they put themselves into harm's way in order to keep the world informed. It's important they do this, and it's important their work be acknowledged. As to foreign aid workers; the same applies. I'm not talking about missionaries, but those simply trying to be good people, and help others in need. I'm sure many who go into such troubled countries are aware of the risks, but that doesn't mean our government shouldn't do everything possible to have them freed if they are detained.

Exactly. People need to be more mindful that when they go into another country, they have to be respectful, and that they can't always do whatever. Not trying to bash anyone or anything.

But there so many Western foreigners cause so many problems overseas. And some sick ones too like pedophiles, rapists and very disrespectful. It's so bad that they have a reputation now especially in Asia. But when I see this I think about Guantanamo Bay.

Myanmar is pronounced without the R at the end. I know this because I spent three months there in the winter of 2001-2002 (after Ma Suu Kyi became the PM).
