I know this is just a technical preview but the UI inconsistency is jarring and needs to be dealt with before the final release. For ex. the grey bar behind the "Settings" tab is so unlike Windows Phone. And then the white background when you launch say, "Display" or the Cortana landing page looks totally out of place. It looked so much better in all black. I just hope they rectify all this before final release. We do not want another iOS/Android clone in the making with pretty "whites" everywhere in the UI.
You have no idea how crazy I was with Windows phone, bought lumia 525 640 925, all those colors, designs, and excruciating waiting time for update are still vivid. I even flashed the system of my xiaomi mi4 to win 10, it looks so dope even with lots of bugs. I can never forget it. How I wish Windows phone were still alive.
man, i miss that keyboard and it looks even better now. this video was great but can you go further into what they've changed in messaging? i didn't quite understand what they were on about in microsoft's videos lol
+Erxv1 A few days ago, i got a windows 10 key from one page: ## plus.google.com/103995254740430807991/posts/VUCxM3c75MS After i use the key. Key not only work but it is genuine. Hope also can help you. Share with you my experience to say.
I actually used Iphone 6+ , android phone, windows 8.1 phone and now I have my new windows 10 phone! I can say that the windows 10 is the greatest among the phones I have!
Phillip Hernandez I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this but just to be sure, is the voice dictation dependent on an internet connection? Would be awesome if it was not, but that is probably asking for too much.
One of the main reasons I chose a large phone (Lumia 1520) on Windows was because the menus could be accessed from the bottom area. It's so convenient. If they change this, it's going to be a major setback (imo anyway).
Love PocketNow vids. Especially Michael. He's very clear, concise, objective and covers what I want to know in a very short space of time. Thought i'd show the appreciation. Bravo Michael and PocketNow! Keep it up.
Removing single notifications, cursor toggle and instant reply looks good. Above all these, what I do want in Windows Phone 10 are: 1. KEEP THE BLACKS ON THE START+MENU AS AN OPTION. PLEASE. It helps for the eyes. 2. "Mobile internet" switch on the Action Center. It is an eternal pain powering up data plan EVERY. SINGLE. TIME in the Settings. 3. The notification removal can be refined so that I have the freedom to take out one or multiple notifications.
I prefer the home screen with a background and icons to the tiles. That was the main reason why I didn't choose a windows phone. And I hope they will have an option to disable the transition animations. Sometimes, I just want to access the apps without any desire to wait for the transition finish.
the icons in settings menu is a welcomed addition. I also want the settings to be rearranged as they are very messy right now. Audio and display are put deep down where less used settings are put on topside. I just love android settings arrangement.
Still not sold on the Windows phone, but darn that thing sure is gorgeous, and is getting more and more up-to-par with the rest of the market. I could see myself buying one of these in the next 5 years.
I used to have a Windows phone, for 2 straight years actually. Over time, Windows phone's started to slowly get some apps but, they seemed very watered down and had less features that the apps on my friends phones. So A couple of weeks ago when my contract came up, I switched to Android and purchased a Galaxy Note4 and wow, I am really impressed with this phone. The apps are better, user interface is better and an app that I love (life360) actually updates in real time unlike windows phones where it updates every half of an hour. When my kids go to school, I know where they are in real time, to me that's important. Honestly, I am not bashing windows because I am a Microsoft guy having two Xbox Ones in my home but, watch a commercial on tv and when you here them say...'"download the app now!" look at the 2 OS shown, it's ALWAYS iOS and Android and that is telling imo.
I agree with Mike here about the wallpaper on the start screen. I think the wallpaper thing on 8.1 is just fine. Here are my qualms about the current interface right now. 1. I wish the volume and music player be part of the notification center as opposed to pressing the up and down to get to the volume and music player when the phone is locked. 2. I wish the fonts on some apps or when you go to settings are huge on my 1520. I think a little bit of consistency in the fonts.
I'm boarding the ship to a Lumia phone today and so far so good, just hoping the app gap would soften down and consistent performance and UI in windows 10 is all I need
Man I'm really looking forward to the final release. And I'm happy Microsoft allows us the ppl to have an input into the build and let's us try it before the official release. That for me speaks loud.. Thanks for the quick tour..
Ive gotten a question mark at the end of a sentence using cortona. I depends if the software reconizes the sentence structure, not your voice going up high at the end.
Please tell me what app you used yo set a picture as tiles going across the screen? I'm referring to the USS Enterprise near the bottom of your start screen
Heres hoping they enable the ability to set your background on the tiles only with 100% transparency. I like that there are more options now, but to remove existing functionality is a poor choice. And as you said, it was supported after your upgrade.
you have a very funny way of presenting information (in a good way)... your delivery was great and the video was clear and informative..thank you (subscribed)
While I love iOS and Android, looking back at Windows Phone makes me really wish it was still around in 2020. I’ve never actually really used it, but it does look quite good.
please answer me one question: can i have the main screen live tiles like they were in windows 8.1 or windows 8( without the fixed, unmovable background image and without the less defined colors( transparent))
Thank you! Looking forward to the 1020 getting added. The WP team seems to be addressing various concerns via Twitter, which is nice. I'm under the impression this is more of a "get it out and tested" release, and they'll be working on the polish, consistency, and other elements in coming builds. I'm hoping the devs are diving in - looking forward to the next generation of apps.
I get the need to streamline UI elements for easy porting, but doing away with Metro's swipes and bottom toolbar and replacing them with side bars or menu dropdown buttons is a step backwards. It's a handheld mobile device, have it use handheld design sensibilities. Leave nested menus to PCs. And by all that is holy: keep buttons near the bottom of the screen.
Windows phone with 8.1 now is fine. All I want is it able to do call recording. This is the one and only features I miss from 7.5 to 8.0 . Please Microsoft add it back and It perfect.
I hope they improve the text selection feature, functionality is a main strong point in windows PC OS, I strongly think that shoul also be the case also for wp. I have constant problems selecting text in the browser and other programs, and also when i try to paste it from one program to another. Not being able to select and copy text from place to place is a mayor drawback for me, im a utility user, intuitive interface is apreciated but most of all i aprecciate beeing able to get things done.
Windows 10 looks great, cannot wait for it to arrive or at least on my Lumia 640lte. My main hope is for a better google app I.e. UA-cam, google + etc.
Great video mike! I downloaded the preview on my Lumia 830 as well yesterday and after with everything you said. Lots of potential in this early release, hope Microsoft move quick
I really like the way the new Windows 10 phone wallpaper looks. Its really sleek and stands out. Refreshing from typical "swipe through apps" approach from IOS and android. Windows 10 will also bring more universal apps. So hopefully this means we'll see a huge increase in the windows phone app selection. (Even though the app store in WP has gotten a ton better already). Just wish I could access the W10 preview on my Lumia Icon!! :/
What I am hoping for is that Microsoft will release a Windows 10 Technical Preview for Windows 8/8.1 tablets. Have been running the Windows 10 Technical Preview for pc's and I am absolutely am loving it
One thing I notice the most is size; just too small for icons, for text and for almost everything. This looks like 1 more half baked desktop version op from Microsoft. I have good vision and average fingers but I wonder if I could even handle it without being super precise every time and have just day to day use... Really feels like the take large screen and turn it in to small one
Will this come out for ALL Windows phones when it's released or just higher end models? I am getting a Lumia 635 from Cricket Wireless today and I was just curious if I would get the update as well.
The UI needs to have a consistent theme throughout the OS. However, I don't think having a lot of whites means that it's an iOS/Android clone.
That's why it's called a preview smart guy.
Matt Dargis That is why I started my rant with " I know this is just a technical preview.." duh!
Please don't speak for me. I like the direction Microsoft is going in moving forward with WP's UI etc.
Matt Dargis that's what he said at the inception of his comment MORON
at 3:34 how can you expand the tile to that extra large square? I cannot do that with the official released version. my screen is 5.7
Jei Dawnn They removed that capability in the release version.
Michael Fisher, I have to applaud you for making every single piece of content entertaining and informative. Best reviewer/media creator out there.
so the phone reminds you of your appointments before it shuts down now? SWEET!
man, i miss that keyboard and it looks even better now. this video was great but can you go further into what they've changed in messaging? i didn't quite understand what they were on about in microsoft's videos lol
i think it is painfully obvious why the brightness screen has a white background.......
+Erxv1 A few days ago, i got a windows 10 key from one page: ## plus.google.com/103995254740430807991/posts/VUCxM3c75MS After i use the key. Key not only work but it is genuine. Hope also can help you.
Share with you my experience to say.
+Erxv1 It crossed my mind too... but the cortana landing one is a bit wierd. I think that will change tho.
Akira Kurusu ur 4 yrs late
@@geraldpadh5745 hey does this still work
OMG that cursor control setup... why hasn't anyone done that yet?
I actually used Iphone 6+ , android phone, windows 8.1 phone and now I have my new windows 10 phone! I can say that the windows 10 is the greatest among the phones I have!
I'm typing this using a nokia lumia 635 running windows 10 technical preview for phones. It is awesome, it runs very, very well.
Actually, I'm using the voice recognition feature and it is superb.
Phillip Hernandez I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this but just to be sure, is the voice dictation dependent on an internet connection? Would be awesome if it was not, but that is probably asking for too much.
Yea it requires internet unfortunately...
i bought an lumia 550 in 2021... i kbow i am really dumb to order an lumia in 2021 but it hasnt arrive
One of the main reasons I chose a large phone (Lumia 1520) on Windows was because the menus could be accessed from the bottom area. It's so convenient. If they change this, it's going to be a major setback (imo anyway).

I NEED that respond in notification shade thing for Android
Pretty sure 5.0 has that, you could always root though
Try QkSMS. That may work for you.
Just install SMS app with this feature like Textra
There's a ton of third party apps that allow this feature. (No root required).
My iphone has that feature in iOS 8 and it works pretty well. Still hasn't been an integration with facebook messanger or other apps
Removing single notifications, cursor toggle and instant reply looks good.

you can send your feedback to microsoft, so you can help them with your ideas
Additonal thumbs up for you being a fellow Trekkie!
Michael Fisher has become the go to video guy now. Great job!

for some reason this feels like one of the best tech videos ive ever watched

Very happy and am looking forward to this update for my 1520. This a much needed update and Im glad windows phones are on the rise.
how do i get the updates for office? my office is won't to opened
I am pretty sure that you can change it back to black background and transparent tiles since it was mention in the WP10 keynote
I agree with Mike here about the wallpaper on the start screen. I think the wallpaper thing on 8.1 is just fine. Here are my qualms about the current interface right now.

Really lovely background, starting at 0:01. That blue vortex, tried googling it to no avail. Mind sharing it?
Man I'm really looking forward to the final release. And I'm happy Microsoft allows us the ppl to have an input into the build and let's us try it before the official release. That for me speaks loud.. Thanks for the quick tour..
Looks like a lot of my dependable android/cyanogenmod features are making it to Windows. Gets me pretty psyched to try one!
Funny joke
how did you change the tile size in to vertically large ? is that option included in this preview?
Ive gotten a question mark at the end of a sentence using cortona. I depends if the software reconizes the sentence structure, not your voice going up high at the end.

What happened to the newer Windows 10 Mobile video? It mysteriously disappeared.
I had this exact phone it’s amazing.
Where can I get this Background at 3:16?
I particularly like the new looks of the home screen.
as a windowsphone user & fan
the windows 10 is just awesome
i love it

Thnx. Check if Bluetooth keyboard is supported in this build.
need help... do we really get our warranty void if we install pre released W10 os....

2020 still reminiscing i hope Microsoft put more effort on this many has been looking up for this but they gave up easily

I've never wanted a windows phone. But just looking at this os makes me tempted to buy one...
i bought one in 2021 i think i am a real idiot

as an Andriod user, this looks so fucking awesome!
Does this device cast audio to TV.coz I heard that it cast only video not an audio..plz clarify it.
It looks good. but having problems like dead slow, all apps crashes rapidly and soon... Am suffering very much
Hen updated my 925 to windows 10. I didn't get the Nokia music and office. How do I install it?
@Charbel Akl : Yes, the Lumia 925 should have the W10, but the technical preview focuses on low range device.
Superb... A very Helpful Video.. Thanks Pocketnow
What music played in this video?
whats all this about lenovo "used" to have the trackpoint nubs? they still have them! im using one right now
Is the Lumia Icon the best of the Lumia series? I don't think it is supported on 10 from the list you briefly showed
Will it have android and ios stores games and apps?
can you run all desktop softwares on the phone since it's using the same windows 10? like games or something
Great vid Michael. Looking forward to this hitting older devices.
I like the level of details, especially "INTERNET SHARIN" in quick toggles :)
Is there a connection between adreno 305 and WP10 Preview... because all the supported phones have this GPU...
i think that Microsoft nailed it this time, i hope they improve performance next time
Funny joke
Hey.., Howz the battery backup for lumia 830 running win OS 10 previw..?
when you upgrade it to windows 10 do you lose any of the memories like photos passwords and things like that?
I really like the way the new Windows 10 phone wallpaper looks. Its really sleek and stands out. Refreshing from typical "swipe through apps" approach from IOS and android. the black background takes advantage of AMOLED WP, so i think they should leave a setting options for everyone to still use the Black BG . .
That trackpad thingy... neat. If my next phone cant be a blackberry for some reason, im getting a windows phone.
Do you guys think the windows 10 beta would be fine to install on my lumia 640 its my daily driver.
What I am hoping for is that Microsoft will release a Windows 10 Technical Preview for Windows 8/8.1 tablets. Have been running the Windows 10 Technical Preview for pc's and I am absolutely am loving it
Is Windows 10 going to be available for the microsoft lumia 535?
Miss this
When is it going to be released?

Great overview Michael. Good job!
Does this update work on HTC M8 windows and Nokia lumia 925??
Just a quick question, does windows phone use chat heads for Facebook messenger like on android? I always thought that was a cool feature.
im using lumia 720 with windows 8.1 how can i upgrade it to windows 10?
Hi! I'm just going to ask if this is an update for all windows phone? Is this update is it available for Lumia 535?
It would be avaible for lumia 735?
Whoo.....after a long wait we have the preview...its great even its a preview i
when i install windows 10 on my phone lumia 535 is error all app and driver
i have:
lumia 630!!
windows 8.1 Denim
internet access -_-
then why does it say "we weren't able to find a preview for you!"
Does anyone know if lumia 830 windows 10 supports usb connection? because i tried the File Explorer and it didnt't work.
Will this come out for ALL Windows phones when it's released or just higher end models? I am getting a Lumia 635 from Cricket Wireless today and I was just curious if I would get the update as well.
Michael can you do the last build 10136 it leap a head of this thanks
