  • It is time to harvest our Garlic Scapes. We remove the scapes so the plant can put its energy into producing a better Garlic Bulb. The other reason is the scapes taste just like garlic and make a great Garlic Powder.

    Thank you! I didn't know you could use them for that. I just threw mine in a stir fry.

    We don't have a dehydrator, could this also be done on cookie sheets/parchment paper in a conventional oven at the lowest temperature?

      It should be able to be done in the oven at the lowest temp. We have never done it that way but we have heard of others that do. We have done herbs in the oven and it works just fine.

    How long does it take to dry them?

      It takes about 20-24 hrs in the dehydrator at 125 degrees F.

    What dehydrator do you use?

      We have a Nesco Gardenmaster. It was given to us as a gift. Works well. I dry hops with it also.

    Just harvested my scapes. Yet another year that I've left it late and many are already too tough & stringy.
    Edit: How costly is that dehydrator to run ?

      @sunnysideupfarmct  Рік тому

      The dehydrator is 1000 watts max. Depending on where you live and your electricity rates this is about 15-20 cents per hour. Our home is run on solar so the cost to us is 0.

      @@sunnysideupfarmct Thank you for the information. 1kW eh. Not bad to run where you are then. This side of the Pond it'll probably be £££s, I'll have to look into it.
