My mom grew up with an abundance of self-worth, but after 43 years of our dad's open floundering and gaslighting, her self-confidence was in the dirt. He ruined her. No one could convince her she had value. It was so hard for us kids to see her so broken.

😭😭😭 I'm so sorry for your mom. My husbands mom, who passed in 2016, also was married to a Narcissist. I hate that she never came to the full understanding that she has value and worth and deserved better. She even divorced him and met the love of her life and still felt like she was fat, that she didn't deserve such an amazing, all encompassing love, she struggled with the fact he was an atheist (being taught in the church that being unevenly yolked isn't ok, even though this man fully saw her and accepted her with the most amazing love!) and then after having a relationship with this amazing man, she went BACK to my FIL, thinking it was what God wanted....and _nothing_ changed. She died of an aneurysm. I never got to meet her and that breaks my heart.
The amazing thing is my now husband (her son) got back in touch with this amazing man which led to me becoming friends with both of them. I was in an abusive marriage (14 years) and these two men saw I was in abuse, I didn't, they helped me SEE it for what it was and helped me see that he wouldn't change and that I only had control over me. I could not change my then husband. This wonderful man shared letters between him and my now husbands mom....and HER journey and story helped me realize that if I stayed in that abuse, it would continue to slowly kill me. My now husbands mom helped me beyond the grave and I will be forever grateful. I now have self-love, self worth, I'm free and healing and my husband has loved me through cptsd, nightmares, anxiety, triggers. I am so happy and I want this for Linda!!! (My MIL who's no longer with us is named Linda, too:)
Please Linda, for your sake and your kids sake, find a trauma counselor and get you and your kids OUT! If you stay, you'll continue to be gaslit and made the problem while your husband continues to lie, cheat, and show you through his actions that you aren't worth the dirt on the bottom of his shoes....and your kids ARE WATCHING....and they'll learn that THIS is what love should look like, when in fact THIS, what you are living in, is hate and disrespect.

If this happened to me, I would plan everything secretly. One day when he came home, the locks would be changed, his kids and I would have moved out, the house would be empty and his stuff would all be sold. I would then send him a screen shot of all the women and tell him to contact one them to give him a place to live. I'd file for divorce and he would never have direct access to me again. If someone is cheating with NINE people, There is NOTHING to talk about. We're done.

I caught my husband texting a woman he swore to God he wasn’t having an affair with.. after we divorced they went on to have a relationship for several years. He was telling me he was going to potato soup parties and to check on her little girl while I was in school. He made me feel like I was so crazy. After all these years I can finally understand that I was being gaslighted and I wasn’t the crazy one. I was being cheated on and abused.
If he’s gotten comfortable enough to sext with 9 women and feels no guilt … I have a very hard time believing he’s not physically cheating with at least one of them.
Of course, he did cheat. She is just in denial, scared, hurt, whatever it is. I don't know, but it's sad for her to think she is not worth it.

Literally cried listening to this. I struggled so much with just one baby. My amazing husband who wasn't perfect and had his own issues to deal with then was my biggest support! Therapists cannot say “Leave”. That would be someone making the decision for her. She has to make the decision. The therapist helps to uncover and address … it is the person’s responsibility to decide.

It's even worse if the woman has no education/skills to fall back on/job to return to. this is why i always encourage younger women to ensure that they have the ability to provide a decent living, should they find themselves in such a situation! I was very fortunate to be brought up to value myself, get a solid education/degree/establish a career before marriage or starting a family.
I hate how it has to come down to a woman having a job first so she can separate from her ex when she needs to. I wish that the alimony and child support payments were enough. It isn't fair to women in this type of situation.
One way to beat the gaslighter game is standing up for your own values. He can have his definition of cheating all he wants. But it's empowering to say "To me this is 1000% cheating and I will not stay in a relationship that allows for cheating." They can whine and moan about your definition all they want, but it's your standards.

I was on bed rest for a pregnancy, and he told me if I couldn’t satisfy him he’d just have to get his needs met somewhere else. It was the most helpless feeling I’ve ever felt. 8 years later and another kid later, they don’t get better. Now it’s even harder to leave bc I been out of work for so long and have 2 kids to worry about now. Get out if you can, bc I’m a shell of a woman I used to be.
Please work on getting yourself out! You’re still alive, life is a gift it’s never too late it just takes time.

@@krystalgardiner5591 yes, please realize your worth and the power you do have. if you have ANY type of education/skill/job you can return to, i would do that ASAP... i always recommend that younger women establish their education and some sort of career BEFORE having kids, as so many end up in situations like these and feel "trapped" so unnecessarily...it doesn't have to be that way. If you don;t have a way of providing for yourself, i would do whatever i could to go back to school, etc to get myself where i needed to be. Best of luck.

Same happened to me. I sat across from my couselor and tried yo convince get that I was crazy and insane. She would not let me and told me my ex husband was abusing me psychologically.

When I was in the Military I was hanging out with a male colleague and his wife, we both had little girls the same age. I saw it as nothing more than hanging out with friends. It turned out over time it was apparent his wife was trying to get me around her husband so he could try to hook up with me. When that became apparent and I confronted her she listed every excuse in the book from her weight gain to “every man cheats.” I was bewildered. Some couples just enjoy having fun like that. If the third adult is into that and is consenting there shouldn't be a problem with it from anybody. Some women, and men like to share and nobody should have to tell them what is right and wrong. As long as nobody is being harmed and there aren't any terrible side effects from doing such activities, it shouldn't be anybody else's "problem" to fix.

And as much as you may want to tell your husband (standing up for yourself) YOU SHOULD NOT! Get your own counseling for Battered spouses cause you are and go speak with a lawyer for 1/2 free consultation QUIETLY. At least than you know the real score before making a final decision. Time for the male perspective- This is crazy- My wife and I have been in survival mode for many years, with health issues and four kids, my wife homeschooling. But when things slowed down for us in our relationship, I understood why and so did she. We just decided to start dating again like we did before kids, especially since the last one is almost 18yrs old- I mean looking at how she took my check and took care of our family and our kids all these years, even when things were tight- I couldn't imagine hurting her like that. I wouldn't need a therapist to tell me it was wrong- after 24 years of marriage, she is still my best friend, so this is crazy, what has the world come to when a wife has to ask is this wrong- I couldn't imagine our daughters and son not having a strong opinion about this if I was crazy enough to do it. Her husband is a manipulator- you can't discuss this outside of therapy and I am still talking to 6 of the 9 women. So, this is not how men act? Maybe in this new generation but family and marriage use to mean something, use to stand for something. She needs to take a zero tolerance stand, I sure know my wife would because she knows she deserves better than this and wouldn't except any less.

Stay strong Linda. I lived in someone’s gaslit reality for a long time and lost total sight of myself. I was broken for a long time and didn’t even realise it. Once I accepted it all it was tough for a while no doubt, but I became so much stronger for it and now am the person I’d always wanted to be. Happier than ever. You got this.
