  • The AC&J operates 6 miles of track in Ashtabula County Ohio running south out of Carson yard to Jefferson. The railroad has no online customers anymore but has 2 transload operations where product moves from hopper car to semi for local delivery. The 2391 is lease from Horizon Rail. The slow moves of this line make it difficult to make this operation interesting but I'm glad I finally got to document some moves on this railroad.

I grew up in Jefferson. The former elementary school was in sight of these tracks. I always preferred watching trains to 5th grade math!

I love these kind of rural short lines. Fascinating power and a delightful smalltown ambience

Too bad Kansas pulled up all their tracks like these. With all the grain grown here now they could save a lot of truck traffic.

@@tommyhunter1817 cost a Fortune to put them back though and they would have to be torn up again because they went belly up in the first place

Hello Scott, an interesting railroad this AC&J Railroad, with two great diesel locomotives. The GE U23B is not seen that often. This branch line and the work are very nicely filmed. Thanks for showing and best regards

On the other side of the state the Shortlines are all EMD this also applies to Southern and Central Michigan, and Even Northern Indiana I think. Still very grateful that no shortline by me has Dash 9s.

The AC&J used to offer rides in their pass. cars + caboose, you could ride in the cupola if you were lucky. They also used to invite a 0-4-0 saddletank steamer for an occasional weekend!

    Scott,
I really enjoyed this video! Your scene composition is really good. Not just trains passing by. Question about your audio. I really like the fact that you don't play music in your videos. You record the sound of the trains. Is your microphone in the drone or on the ground? Other videographers told me they play the music because you can't hear the trains if they record them from the drone. Is that true?

Awesome footage…. Do you know if the U-boat was an old Conrail? What kind if drone do you use?

The number of the U23 would fit in the Conrail numbering, for those locos--- might be!

Without knowing anything about this operation, it kind of looks like they’re one bad month or severe weather event away from going away…but hope not.
