The Soviets felt bad for the French so they purposely put weak spots on for the 2c and ordered soldiers to stop shooting if they see one to make the French feel better
Fun fact about that periscope, it spins around not in an effort to block the bullet, but to make it so the thin slats that restrict bullets from getting through do not matter as much, as they'd be going fast enough around to see through the tiny gaps as if it were a rolling shutter. It'd also be nearly 360 degrees of view as well which matters a lot when going over a trench where infantry can try to rush the tank.
Yeah, I know it's a throwaway line, but the stroboscope worked fine--for bullets. It would have to be huge to deflect more modern cannon shells, and modern ww2 periscopes were almost as good with no weakspots and required no motor, gearshaft, etc to turn it. It doesn't scale up.
That periscope if it rotates faster than 12 rotations per second can assure a clear, yet flickering, vision all around. At 24fps you got yourself the perfect view of the battlefield and still get some armor protection for your head.
I think realistically, you'd end up with some bullet shrapnel if you got hit, and "hit enough times" = higher chance of shrapnel hitting you. But the core concept worked.
It doesn't spin to stop bullets.Well sort of it spins to create a full 360 view so you aren't restricted by a set amount of view ports. It's the Zoe-trope effect.
My favorrite thing about this tank is that it can block off the tunnel on Frozen Pass if you manage to get it sideways, You can just park one and J out and deny the enemy team their easy access into the tunnel unless they want to workout how to unjam the behemoth of a tank
@@fennikk2433 pretty nice. You can in fact deny access to the tunnel, but you are pretty late to the scene. When playing in arcade, you can also play as a mortar, and shoot tanks without even being seen. 10/10, would recommend 😂
That spinning periscope thing is very cool! I remember in BF1 (in which the Char is a "beheamoth") you could get in them to use the MGs. They actually animated the effect. Apparently the spinning is not for the peepholes to dodge out of the way of the bullets matrix-style, but to make a tiny tiny slit more like a wide vision thanks to how human eyes don't take moment-by-moment shots and more smear everything together. Pretty cool!
you should play the japanese Ho-I. It is at 2.0, basically a Chi-Hu hull with a short 75mm and 15 deg gundep. And 480g of explosive in APHE. On top of that, it has a good HEAT shell, and a very effective HE as well (12mm pen, so you can shoot the top of the turret of Panzer 3 and 4 tanks to overpressure them)

I love the 2C so damn much. From the gun depression to the 300+ kilograms of explosive mass (following the semi-recent buff of it's gun and APHE shell), its hard to have a bad time in games that don't end before you can reach the battleground.
I can see in to the future I’m seeing odd ripping and tearing through the enemy team alone in a TOG II and having the time of his life (once they add that tank into the game) or other ridiculous super heavies like Kv4 or kv5
The 2c (and it's big gun premium bro the 2c bis) are delightful low-tier big chonker lineholder tanks. Main guns on both are always a threat to anything near it's BR (as you saw, even when it needs a creative hatch shot), and it's damn hard to finish one off without beating it's massive crew to death.
The point about periscope is that there is no real holes bullet can exploit. Enough tiny slits with high revs act like a fan: you can see through it, it's just darker. And, since you get big area for light to find a way, the effect is not harsh enough to make things too dark to see.
It's little brother, the 2c Bis isn't too bad either. 1.5 br lower than the 2c but it's the same tank but with a 155mm howitzer instead of the 75. It obliterates anything that isn't heavy
