Good to know there's a cuke variety that doesn't need pollinators! Hoss should start a companion UA-cam cooking channel to demonstrate some of the best ways to prepare many of these veggies, southern style that is!

I am in Michigan. Last year was terrible for cukes. I tried many varieties, but your Stonewall was the only one that survived and produced! I've already received my 2024 order, and just itching to plant...

First time in years in west central louisiana we actually have a spring season. Its still down to 40-42 degrees in the mornings way to cold for watermelons squash and other heat loving vegetables.... I hate it but at the same time i love it.

I've always struggled with cukes and squash but decided to tackle it this year and succeeded 😂 I'm hoping this is my year, I have a whole new program to follow 🤞🤞

I`ve grown Sunburst squash the last couple years and love them. They dont have the little hairy stuff on the outside that makes me itch.

In my opinion, no other pickling cucumber rivals Max Pack for production, flavor, and disease resistance. It’s the only pickling cucumber I now grow since Hoss introduced it a few years ago. I have tried some of the newer varieties, but none have been able to unseat Max Pack.

Crooked neck does taste better imo, little sweeter. But overall I'd say they are real close.
I also highly recommend Golden Delight, I don't even grow the green ones anymore.

I run a small farmers market. The patty pan squash was fairly new, and I thought maybe it would catch on around my small town. Anyhow, after I sold some, I asked some customers how they tasted, and most thought they were a Halloween gourd and had set them out on the front porch with the pumpkins, lol.

I grew golden delight zucchini last year. It's very prolific plant. I grew six plants and had way enough zucchini to last a several weeks.

Really enjoyed the sunburst last year. 2 plants is a gracious plenty, unless you are selling it.

Ordered the minis this time. It’s still a little early for cukes here but I’m looking forward to cute little cukes this summer. Have u tried the white ones yet? Loved them last year😁

The lemon cucumber here in Idaho produces so many cucumbers that I limit my planting to one plant. the grandkids eat them like apples. I love the Golden Delight zucchini and have planted it every year since you introduced it. The Sunburst are colorful and delicious as well.

How best to battle and defeat squash vine borers?

    • @gardeningwithhoss
      @gardeningwithhoss  4 місяці тому

Sprinkle diatomaceous earth around the stalks when the squash vines are small, or the threat of squash vine borers is high (early to mid-summer). Reapply after rain
There are pheromone traps available for squash vine borer adults. These traps attract male squash vine borers and can give growers an idea of when adult insects are active in their area.

If you're not going to be fussy about organics, I personally dust with a small amount of seven dust while they're very young that has worked for me for years. I don't think anything is full proof though eventually vine boars always get my squash no matter how diligent I am about powdering

Papa Hoss did you say you’re going to be selling tomato plants? I live in California and I want to know if you send me some Hiner tomato plants and can I grow them and containers and I don’t know how I’m gonna keep them getting eaten because we have rabbits out there we have rats out there O possum I think there’s even raccoons out there there’s only one of me so I don’t need a whole lot of yield for the year but how can I keep them safe from all the critters not saying anything about the worms and bugs and stuff but I guess you could use something like seven duster I don’t even know what they have nowadays, my cousin used to own a green ring and they used to have seven dust for vegetables to kill the bugs. Keep the bugs off. I’m sure you got better stuff now. I hope you read this and help me out i’m handicap so I can’t do much but I would really like to try the Hator tomatoes they’re sliced and tomatoes right we do get some good tomatoes in the store sometimes, but they have really thick skins on them. Maybe these don’t have as thick as skins as the ones of from the store, I’d like to get some kings Hawaiian bread with miracle whip and tomato sandwich so good

He's also has plenty of videos, let your fingers do the walking, in other words, don't let the screen door hit ya, where the good Lord split ya!!! Second thought I bet you don't like little kids or puppies!!! Have a good one and May God bless y'all
