Samus's first adventure is retold in Metroid: Zero Mission with extra storyline, extra items and on a system with a better graphics processor. This run completes the game with 100% item collection, at least as far as the end-of-game display is concerned.
This is an improvement to cpadolf (tasvideos.org/C... 100% TAS (tasvideos.org/1..., beating it by 38.26 (2,296 Frames @60 FPS) seconds, 32 seconds on the ingame timer. A large part of this (29 realtime seconds, 17 ingame seconds) is because of a few route changes during the item cleanup after getting Power Bombs, but it's also because of higher optimization, faster room strategies, and better ammo management throughout the run. However, since this run is also made on a newer emulator than the published run, every room transition takes 1-2 frames longer, and the screen explaining a newly picked up item (not expansions) is a few frames slower as well.

I didn't find out till years later about this lol played this game when I was a kid. I'm 23 now and barely did 100%

TAS = Tool-Assisted Speedrun
In other words, this wasn't completed normally.
To give you a example, some of the tricks in this run is frame perfect and was done simply because they slowed it down and literally got the exact frame to do the trick. Frame by frame, each trick was executed.
It's called Tool-Assisted because they used tools to help speedrun the game in a way that's almost humanly impossible to do

It felt weird that a majority of the zero suit Samus section kept playing the space pirate mothership theme, I’m used to hearing that for only 20 seconds before a space pirate spots me

One thing I wished about this cutscene is yo see that ray of light that starts at her feet transform her power ranger style that morphs her into her suit starting at her feet until her helmet. Would have been a cool touch.

Because it was made for a small screen, and the sprites look better when they look like tiny complete images, rather than huge blocky messes.
they still look pretty impressive even on a large screen, this was one of the better looking GBA titles
To save the charge you have to shinespark horizontally into a slope; when you collide with a slope, you can go back into a run and then press duck again to save the charge.

Dragonfangs should redo this with early ice beam and the bug clip. Not sure if it would get sub 1 hour but it would be close. Eagle's rta wr for this dropped dramatically with that route change
Michael Greene I don't think ice clip alone would justify a new TAS. However if Late Wave is tested to be an ultimately faster route or even just reverse speedboosting having enough applications to save a significant amount of time, we may see one eventually. Given the any% TAS was finished in June I think it'll be awhile
+Ra Co very good point. I know any TAS and this one in particular are huge efforts and take a lot of time. Just thinking and hoping aloud is all bud. Knew about the late wave beam potential but I've never heard of reverse speed boosting

I loved the transition from zero suit to fully equipped badassery where those lobster looking assholes basically become your bitches. The music is so fitting.
As this being my favorite game and me wanting to get into speedruns, seeing a "computer" do all of this is hilarious
It isn't actually a computer. It's a human using a computer to go through one frame at a time and find an optimal strategy. It takes a lot of patience and hard work to make one of these, probably more than it takes to do a normal speedrun.

Bad jokes aside this was one of the most impressive speedruns I've seen yet. Every move is so perfect.
I wish they had a darker sounding score in this one like they had in Super Metroid.

This is one of the most enjoyable tas'es to watch, this and Fusion. I am pissed i missed out on this game, i didn't even have a game boy advance. But seeing this tas, how many secret things there are that are so well hidden, i think it is best this way ^^ saves me money too.
I know, i tried it. But it just isn't as enjoyable as playing it on the original console and when it is released. But it was fun to play on emulator too.

What's wrong with the charge beam power up? Lots of Tas makers don't take it at first... Some of them forget about it completely... Is there any unspoken tradition among TAS makers about not picking basic power ups?

@@jimmyjohnjoejr Since Charge beam Is not necassary, Not picking it up saved time but if you dont pick it up before a certain point in the game it dissapears and you will be locked out of getting 100% on that savefile

It's called a Shinespark. It's when Samus crouches down while using the Speed Booster, then dashing in any direction, even in the Morph Ball!

I didn't realize that getting to the Zero Mission is about halfway through the game's content. Stupid me for getting my power suit and leaving the planet!
After this, the Space Pirates will never fuck with Samus Again.

It's not, it the Wrecked Ship belonged to the Chozo, not the Pirates

how do you use the ziplines in kraid's stage?
Near the upper right of the map, you'll find a machine that requires you to Morph into it. Activating it will turn on the hook system!Do that and shoot any red glowing orbs you see. Then, a hook should zip to you. Just jump onto it, and you will automatically soar to the other side! And don't feel bad! I was confused about the same thing! Hope that helped!
ZZS and Solid Snake would make a great team of doing sneaking Missions. They both did sneaking missions but Snake does them 24/7
Solid Snake x Mr. Potato Head is the superior couple.
Look at it closer. He burned just enough missiles to have it double his Super Missile count for silliness reasons. After the early stages of the game, ammo management is less important.

So... i thought samus was a Hunter. All i saw her do was kick space pirate butt and bam mission accomplished. Did i miss something?
Her job here was to hunt down the Metroids on the planet and stop Mother Brain, and she did that. The Space Pirates she fought afterward simply ambushed her after the mission was finished and destroyed her ship, so she had to fight her way through them and steal one of theirs. Naturally, she killed most of them on her way through their spaceship.
