I have an A license, but actually went for the rebel 500. No, it's not super powerful, but it's super fun to ride and very nimble. Never tried a Harley though, maybe I should go have a test ride :)

@@MrDarcy-OlMan A Harley is a special way to go, demands a certain set of mind, not a simple consumer product, Honda 500/1100 is more useful in many ways except the one way that matters. And this is "soul" component, every bike has some, HD has more, so it's more than a sum of it's parts. So, the usual brain/heart dilemma.
Just noticed that I watched the video several times and not for the Honda part. That Harley is a visual and audible masterpiece, simple and elegant like a M1 Garand rifle. The Honda is like the M16, modern and evolved, but never superior.
My 17 years young Harley fuels my soul and gives me smiles more than my previous Honda 400cc Shadow and Steed. They were very smooth and comfortable bikes. Even my sports bikes didn’t gave me that soul-fueling satisfaction. Accessories options for Harleys, as I have discovered, really test your resistance to temptation. Nothing shines quite like a well aged Harley. There is this sense of appreciation from the public whenever they see a Harley compare to my other rides. Interesting comparison: apples and oranges, but yeah, you swing a leg over either one and you're in the wind. People probably ride Hondas for the same reason as they ride Harleys and both are pretty fun.
@@MrDarcy-OlMan Yep! I ride a Harley now because I CAN. But, was a time I rode the entire Western USA over a summer on a Yamaha 400 Special (not enough bike, by the way). My rationale at the time was 1) I could afford one and 2) I was a dirt bike rider and figured that 400 was 150 more than 250 (also wrong). BUT: best ride ever.
I've had loads of bikes but always wanted a Harley since I was a kid. Finally got one (a Shovel) aged 32. Now been riding Harleys for 32 years. But, I ride a motorcycle first and a Harley second.
Started with the 2020 Electra Glide Standard then traded in 2021 for a Road King Special with the 114. MY FOREVER BIKE! Yours was in the running though - love the look and sounds great!
I solved my problem buying a Royal Enfield Classic 500 - The best of both worlds and I get hooked. His only drawback is to be slow. But who cares, when roads are restriced in speeds as we are never in a hurry to get somewhere, and not being obsessed overtaking everything in wheels that might be thrown moving in front of us? Missing a harley?. Sometimes, but reason and running costs have their wieght.
As a former rebel 500 rider you made the right decision. You would be trading it in for the softail soon enough. I have the rebel 1100DCT now after riding the 500 for less than 12 months
I’m 40+ on a full licence, love my xl883n sure I would love a 1200, equally or more so a Milwaukee 114 in a street Bob. I will have another Harley but I don’t need it yet, it is fast enough to pull away from most cages, nimble enough to corner and scrape pegs it’s loud and obnoxious but feels like nothing else, smiles for miles - I even smile every 90-110 miles (depending on riding style) when I need more juice……nothing like it!
To me, I don't equate "character" with noise, which is all I get from an HD. I equate character with spirited riding, so for me it's not even a contest. Although as I am 6' 225 lbs I would be going for the Rebel 1100.
I don’t equate it with noise either, it’s the rumble of the engine and the clunky gear box. In essence it’s actually the things that aren’t perfect that make it more enjoyable. Honda rebel is great! We will be reviewing the 1100 this month
My first bike back in 2000 was a Kawasaki VN800 Classic. Great bike and still have it. Two years ago I got an Indian Springfield 2019. Love it! There is an Indian Scout in the family as well (the wifes) and a Sportster 883 Iron. All great bikes in my mind. Different, which is why we keep them all.
Honda makes excellent motorcycles. I would love to get ahold of one of those 1100s. That said, I’m on my second Harley Davidson in two years. I started on the iron 883 and just recently traded in for a ‘21 Low Rider S. Amazing bike! There’s just nothing else like a Harley Davidson, IMO. They can be intimidating with their size and low down grunt, but the biggest draw back is probably the price. They are not cheap and the price keeps going up. That’s one huge reason I went ahead and traded in my 883. I absolutely loved that bike but knew I would always be wishing I had a “Big Twin” Harley, so I found a very reasonable deal (for a Harley Davidson) at my local dealership and went for it. One of the best decisions I’ve ever made! The Low Rider S is so much more motorcycle for the money than the iron 883. Besides, my wife might divorce me if I didn’t buy another Harley? I’m not kidding!
I agree with the bigger bike, at least in my situation. I’m in the US, so I know it’s different than your situation. My son wanted to start on a Street Twin, but he wanted the T120 Black. I got the T120, but started him on a used 300, and then an RE 650 Twin. I already had the 650 for me to start riding again, so I got double use out of it. While it cost a couple smaller bikes, we recouped a decent amount on them, and I was happy skipping the ST. He used rain mode on the T120 initially. Like you said, it’s the torque of the bigger engine (and dual front brakes haha). Thanks for the video; nice, real-world analysis.
Seeing you and the ol' man on Monkey bikes will be crazy, looking forward to it. It's great to hear the Honda and the HD back to back; glad I had headphones on!
first bike was (and I still have it) a Kawasaki 900 Custom, used. Goes well as I am 16 stone and it moves. Second is a Harley Heritage Softtail, no move need be said. Both have their place, 900 for around town and Harley for distance riding.
All about saving m8 cost cutting while having something nice ...fuel etc expensive too therefore I myself would look at getting something cheap to run but looks.good and reliable
Ive had a Honda. Yeah a VFR800 not a Rebel and ive had Harleys. Sportster and a Road King and ill say it with no shame the Honda was a much better bike than the Harleys in every category. More power. better brakes by a long shot and generally extremely well built machine. But the Harleys have one thing in spades. Character! Its hard to pinpoint what it is about them but they just do it for me and i sold my VFR800.
You did the right thing. When I was 17 and before passing my test, I bought an all but new Suzuki GT380 two stroke from a workmate who needed the cash to get married, and also a very cheap ex police BSA 250 on which to pass my test. I promptly exploded the BSA's engine and had to sell the Suzuki in order to buy a brand new Suzuki 250 on which to try my test. Passed first time and put it in for a second hand Triumph Trident 750 almost immediately. The guy used to get a new Trident year on year. A bit of a palaver, the kind of which you've been sensible enough to avoid ! I look forward to the time when the restrictor comes off your ride. Will your test be soon, and hopefully before the summer ? Incidentally, I've ridden a Suzuki SV1000 for the last 16 years, a bit of a good allrounder after some fettling, although 90 degree V twins never sound as good as a 45, even after a change of pipes. Regards from Burry Port, West Wales.
I had an iron 1200 and the Honda rebel 500. I went to trade the 500 in for the Softail standard, and something weird happened… I ended up leaving with a softail slim lol I walked right by the standard, saw the slim, and told the salesman “ I’ll take that one instead “. I will say though, the rebel 500 was a fun bike in general, but the lack of power and aftermarket support left me asking for more
My first big bike back in 2001 was a bandit 600 which I loved. Then had a break and went for the cb650f and a z300 about three years ago, and I’m currently restoring a bandit 400 which is a fun little in line 4 screamer. I’ve commented before that I’m not a huge fan of cruisers but I do quite like the rebel and I took a Vulcan 650 for a spin which actually was quite good fun. Oh and obviously great video 😊
Hello. You made some good points. However, i believe you may have not thought about a few other details. Yes, budget is the biggest obstacle, but where you live plays the most importnat part in every aspect of a purchase. For instance, in my country, a brand new Harley with an 107 or 114 starts around 25k euros. This is getting close to 3 times the price of a rebel 500. Due to covid there huge delays and motorcycle availability issues. Dealers do not have motorcycles to sell, despite the demand. Then there is the other matter, what do you want to do with your bike? Where do you want to take it? If you want a bit of rougher tyres and more versitility, then get a Triumph Scambler 900 and turn it to A2 with a map. The rebel and scrambler are friendlier to the new rider, who just got upgraded from smaller motorcycles or starting from zero. Also more agile. Try getting that Softail to my local riding routes and you will spit blood. You can turn it around easily when the inclination of the road is 0% , but what happens when it is 10%? 20%? Motorcycles are like women, so at the end of the day what matters is which one you fell in love with and which one you can afford.
Beautiful standard. I like Harley's standard line, they are is simple and clean looking with a base potential to build in any direction you chose or not. Great vid and content :)
I love the profile of the new seat, it really smooths out the overall look oF the bike. I still like the sound of my V&H Twin Slash slip ons on my Heritage M8 with a torque cam. Great looking bike there Mr. Darcy!
interesting test. they are common things between them and so many differences. each one have good features. i tested CMX 1100, it is another world with the DCT gearbox. unfortunately not able to be driven by A2 licence, even if engine is only 87HP you can't set it to 47,5HP.
I have a fat boy , had Harleys for over 35 years. However I also have an Interceptor. The Harley is better for two up cruising and has held its value. But it’s very heavy ( I’m 58 had a heart attack and have a very bad knee). The Enfield is light lithe and far better handling . In a way they compliment each other. As I get older and if my leg worsens I may get rid of the Harley, but not until I have to.
Yes it was more because of the A2 comparison as to whether it’s worth restricting a Harley or getting a bike that is already compatible. Possibly could do another comparison when we get the 1100 to review
Started on a Honda Shadow 750. It was 11 years old with 20k miles and only £4k (with a new custom paint job). I wanted something that was reliable and not too expensive if things did go wrong during trips. I plan to sell it in a couple of years for a Harley Seventy Two and spend the next decade covered in chrome polish 🤣
Only cruiser type of bike I had was a keeway superlight. Was like riding on a couch. So comfy. I thought about the rebel last year but funds said I can only get the Duke 390. Great small bike to learn on and have fun on. Untill last month had been stuck on an A2 since just 23. Now turning 32 soon. I was looking at bigger bikes such as the Z650rs, sv650 and the trident. The rebel always tickled my fancy. Now due to insurance the only one in my price range is the rebel. About 30 a month fully comp. The others were about 65-70!. But I was expecting to keep my job but probation is extended. If I keep my job then the rebel is on the cards. I am short and joint issues. Sat on a Harley before and is one of my dream bikes the iron883. But my back has other ideas. I think a happy medium would be the rebel and it is highly customisable. Have a more mean look for daily riding but have some touringstuff like big screen and bags for the odd long tour. I would disagree with the view of getting an A2 i would personally wait and just redo a cbt then go straight to DAS if I could go back in time. Test riding big bikes is a pain as well. As you cannot go I like that but needs restricted. You take the gamble and pay extra. For someone that does not have allot of money. Redoing ur licence is a pain in the ar$e also when you are older with a family that money could go elsewhere (hard to justify it) lol and finding the time is hard as well. Thanks for the reviews on the rebel. Hopefully get kept on and can celebrate with a new bike!
You should've compared the new Honda Rebel 1100cc with your Harley. I tested the St.Bob and after that I just had to buy the big reb. What a ride and quality.
Yes I get you, it was more for the proposition of an A2 license holder as to whether they should restrict a Harley or get a smaller bike. May do another comparison when we review the 1100 👍🏻
The street bob( softail standard) is a keeper with millions of customisation and engine upgrade options… the engine upgrades to be honest is just for enthusiast… the rebel is like harley street 500( is not a keeper and you will move on)….can you review the DUCATI super sport 950 /950 s( many people say great things about the bike- comfortable in city and long rides, two up riding is good, luggage options are good , the suspension (Ohlins) and seating comfort is good , plus the v twin things and safety tech( you can even select the tyres in the menu so that the bike calibrate accordingly)… it’s cheaper than softail standard…
Yes I shall certainly be keeping the Harley for a long time! We’ve tried getting hold of Ducati a few times but so far they haven’t been interested. Hopefully we can get hold of some soon.
A lot of people overlook the mid capacity segment end of the market. This is a shame as they make excellent commuter, weekend bikes. I've owned quite a few large capacity bikes but hadn't ridden for a long time..In the end I settled for a CB500F, added a few bits including a Givi 56 litre top box. Around town and weekend rides its perfect.
@@MrDarcy-OlMan What's the most popular 2 wheeled contraption at the moment? Major Scooters or whatever they're called. Honda, Yamaha, BMW Electric. Fuel embargo on Russians with 35-40% crude oil reserves. Already around $2.20 a litre for petrol in Australia. You might want to rent that fuel economic Honda Chopper during the Ukraine crisis.
I am in the US - near Atlanta Georgia, I visited a couple harley dealers this past week. They had rows of irons and 48's and rows of Street Bobs, the black Street Bob was going to be almost $22,000 out the door. For a $15k bike, in the winter - I was embarrassed for the sales guy, I asked about a used 1200cc sportster, they wanted $11k for a 2014 Sportster Custom. So, I went across the street - literally across the street and found a new Yamaha Bolt R-Spec for $8100.
Yes the 500 Rebel is a good learners bike , but as you say lacks the character and torque of the Harley. I have a 2005 fxdc and always liked it for the base sound and good torque.
I wish Honda had chosen another name to start with. The Rebel moniker takes me back to the entry level 250 and 450s. They had decent engines but kinda goofy looking. The 500 and 1100 Honda Rebels still have similar benefits and liabilities. Honda have bikes that don't ape cruiser styling and are certainly more appealing visually to me. I certainly would not be consider myself a Harley man and generally prefer the Honda brand over the Harley brand, however you would have to be considered legally blind to pick any Rebel over that Harley.
Great review Mr D altho i think your in love with the Harley and rightly so its a harley and youve had the pleasure to ride it . I hope to do my A test in the nxt 6 mths and i really want a rebel 500 . I think for new riders and for affordability the rebel is more within reach.
I'm torn between the Indian Scout (feels so light off of the kickstand and the modern liquid cooled engine), HD Heritage (I like full fenders and chrome), or whatever Softail I can get a deal on. The newer Softails feel so much better balanced than my top heavy Sportster. The Harley definitely wins the character and the amount of customization and accessories. I've had a dozen different Japanese bikes and my Sportster still has the character the other can't match. I'm just ready for a bigger bike. HD's clothing line is pretty awesome too. lol I've got the same slip-ons on my Sporty. I actually added the quiet baffles so I can at least yell over them now. Haha Thanks for the videos!
I’ve got a 2020 street Bob and it’s the best bike there is. A few weeks avond I had the chance riding a 114 street glide and i wouldn’t think of changing my street Bob for a street glide, the Bob is much more fun!!!
Your Softail looks especially pretty in this vid, great light. Personally I'd take the Standard over the Street Bob anyway! The seat and those slash cut mufflers bump it up several notches as well 🤤
I really wanted the batwing fairing more than anything. I’ve only done a few test rides on the touring bikes and they were like 5 minutes a piece so I can’t really say one way or another about which has the better ride. My heritage is set up just the way I like it, might add a few accessories but otherwise I just have to ride the snot out of it
@@mandizzle0517 I found out that one short test ride wasn't enough and it wasn't until I rode the new bike home, that I realized that bumps on the road that were never there on my road king, were breaking my back on the street glide! Totally different ride. But I have learned to "adjust" and now love riding it. Lol. Too bad we can't take bikes out for a couple hours before ponying up $33k. On the brighter side of things, I realize that we are fortunate today to walk into a dealership and buy bikes off the showroom floor. There have been long periods of time in the past where the supply of bikes was years behind the demand, and you waited for years to get your ride.
I own an 83 Honda XL600, 73 Yamaha DT360 and 76 Yamaha XS500. HD doesnt appeal to me, so i would rather have the Rebel. I would rather ride a small capacity engine bike and rev it high than a lazy revving HD.
Sorry, but I prefer a used but true cruiser with a true V2 engine. It can be a Japanese cruiser but with a true V2 engine. I own Vulcan 900 with custom exhaust and I absolutely love it. Parallel twins are crap (tried Honda and Yamaha nakeds with parallel twins).
Okay ... I think I've been watching you and the Ol' Man blast down the WRONG side of the road too much. Somewhat distracted thinking of your vids I got on my KTM, blasted off and after a block or two I found myself wondering why that car in MY lane was coming at me. ??? Sh*t! I was riding on the left! I hold you personally responsible ... it certainly has nothing to do with my doddering old age, no sir! ;) Hondas are well made, low maintenance, good value and usually quite able ... but they're boring! If I were a lion tamer I would never want to be seen dead on a Honda. Darcy, you have a boss bike. The Honda is ... okay too. I have the KTM 390 adv. and love its lightness, quickness, agility, low maintenance (fingers crossed) and flippin' fun factor, but when I get on the Harley ... ohhh man, it's so nice. I'm in a whole different world. Gone is the spry wee KTM, but woah I gots me a whole hunka Harley iron that makes my whithers whistle. So ... buy both. Problem solved. S
Ahaha don’t go getting yourself hurt, maybe it’s a sign to move to the uk 😂yes there’s something about Harley’s that just give you the fizz! Both would be nice haha
I feel like unless you have masses of disposable income Harleys are just unreachable so the question of which is better kind of becomes moot. I doubt I'd ever be able to afford one much as I'd like one.
I have thought about a harley but don't like ape hangers being 70 years old there all bit heavy I like how low they are I do have a benelli 502c and I no your thing about Chinese machine from one of your other vids but its been fine for me so far and I have a triumph 900 street twin and then your dad says get an Enfield so I don't what to do now or is it greedy having three bikes lol
Haha sounds like a good two bikes to have, I think Benellis are pretty well made. You can get plenty of Harley’s without apes, I wouldn’t say it would be greedy haha as long as you can comfortably afford it.
HD is superior in so many ways, but thinking about my first motorcycle, first fall off the stand, first scratch, first crash, I would like a cheap and redundant, generic motorcycle. The Honda is way too good, the Harley is sacrilege as first bike. Pressed between two choices, Honda would win, but probably would have been replaced by the Harley in a few years, then then the Harley kept until the end of times.
I think the honda is better in every way aside from sound and looks are on par. However I'd pick the harley. Yeah the honda is lighter, better handling, can probably lean more, the 1100 is probably faster but at that point if that's what you care about, why are you looking at cruisers? Get a naked bike then.
@@MrDarcy-OlManI recently purchased a Honda rebel 300 and love it. It's not my first bike my first bike was a Buell blast 500. From then I owned smaller bikes until the 300. When I bought the rebel I wanted a 500 but couldn't afford it. So I bought the 300. Weight was a little heavier on the 500 but not bad. My next bike would have to be the 1100 rebel touring model. I think your Harley will still smoke a rebel 1100 being that from what you said the Harley is 1000 cc more than your 500. However, can't make statements unless actual comparison.
The parts available for the Harley are enough reason to own one. There’s no end to the customizable options on a softball. In my humble opinion, while Honda certainly makes excellent product the Rebel lacks a soul.
Your Standard looks very nice with that seat and silencers. It’s a shame though, HD didn’t put some thought into the air filter cover design……a bit bland me thinks. Keep. Them coming👍😊
As a starter bike, get something second hand and cheap. Spending Harley money on a first bike seems pretty silly. Ride for a year or two on a nice cheap bike and you'll be a better rider.
@@MrDarcy-OlMan Sure mate, I know you are an experienced rider. I just meant that people who start out on something smaller and lighter tend to learn faster. I should have made that more clear.
It's strange how a different saddle can make such a difference in the look of a motorcycle. It definitely looks longer than with the original one up seat... The passenger seat on my Street Bob doesn't really give too much comfort for the pillion. Is this a huge improvement you would say? Another great video by the way! 👍👍👍
Thanks buddy, yes I love the look of This seat. It’s called the badlander, it’s definitely more comfortable than the street bob pillion pad but it’s still not that comfortable as it’s quite low profile.
Small changes mean alot! I just ditched my $300 highway pegs/mounts ( 2021 FLHXS ) for a $45 set from eBay and the net result is to double the length of time I am sitting in comfort on longer rides.
Nothing has the outlaw appeal of a Harley Davidson...that Honda may say it's a rebel, but Harley built it's history on rebellion...don't get me wrong, I have 2 Hondas to go with my Road King, but you can't buy the feel of a Harley with any other bike...my Hondas are both more dependable & neither of them leak, but when you're on the Harley, there's just nothing else like it...
In my case the problem is not the economy but the experience. I am a completely beginner and despite my dream Harley Davidson is the Sport Glide I am considering buying the Honda Rebel 500 first to improve technique and gain experience. What would you suggest?
I like Looking at harlys but i dont think i would ever own one. I think its the position of the foot controls that but me off. Thats actually what put me off buying a valcun. Thats also when i discovered i like naked and adv bikes.
@@MrDarcy-OlMan I've never actually had the opportunity to ride one with mid controls. Something about forward controls just throw me. It's not really something i can explain easily but it's almost like it feels like its my first time riding every time i try something with forward controls.

Fantastic. Yes indeed 👍🏼👍🏼
Went from a 2000 Katana to a 13 wide glide and now a 16 softail heritage. I think the softails are the perfect mix between touring and city driving.
Absolutely agree, they are a perfect mix!
Low rider s is a fantastic machine! Iron 883 is great but yes it leaves you wanting more.
It would be interesting to see a similar video but with the Rebel 1100.
Very true!
Headphones are a good call, we have actually reviewed the monkey before in 2020!
Those pipes on your Harley really give it a great "Harley" rumble 👍💯
Thanks, they do sound sweet!
first bike was (and I still have it) a Kawasaki 900 Custom, used. Goes well as I am 16 stone and it moves. Second is a Harley Heritage Softtail, no move need be said. Both have their place, 900 for around town and Harley for distance riding.
OK awesome 👍🏼👍🏼
All about saving m8 cost cutting while having something nice ...fuel etc expensive too therefore I myself would look at getting something cheap to run but looks.good and reliable
The rebel would be a good choice for you then 👍🏻
First big bike was a 2001 SV650S but was on a DAS so I didn't need to restrict it. A great bike and put loads of miles on it.
Awesome!
Honda rebel 500 for me being a shortarse, inexperienced but still wanting the HD cruiser style looks with Honda reliability and economy
Would be perfect for your needs 👍🏻
Good comparison for a new rider with limited funds, but its the harley allday for me...The standard is a real nice looking bike i love it 👍
Me too (obviously) haha, it’s a beauty
Yes i hope you can test the rebel 1100..
Coming soon, we have it booked in!
@@MrDarcy-OlMan yes...thanks 😁
My first big bike was a Harley 2007 heritage Softail, and the exhaust sounds great
Awesome! Yea we agree with that 💯
Ive had a Honda.
Yes that’s it they have something that can’t be matched!
Looking good on the Harley in the thumbnail^^
Thank you!
Thanks for the comment buddy, yes luckily I haven’t fallen in the trap of buying a new bike every year ahah!
I had an iron 1200 and the Honda rebel 500. I went to trade the 500 in for the Softail standard, and something weird happened… I ended up leaving with a softail slim lol I walked right by the standard, saw the slim, and told the salesman “ I’ll take that one instead “.
I will say though, the rebel 500 was a fun bike in general, but the lack of power and aftermarket support left me asking for more
Yes that’s the problem with them, the slim is a fantastic machine!
Darcy your presentation is top notch and when you get the full map on your bike i will looking forward to the ensuing drag race with the old man..lol!
Thank you! Yes that’s a good idea 👍🏻
Did the same, saved a bit longer and bought the bike I wanted
Good on you!
Sounds good buddy! Thank you 😊
Yes, unfortunately I can’t account for all country’s and research how much the bike is in every country. I give a point of view based on where I am.
Beautiful standard. I like Harley's standard line, they are is simple and clean looking with a base potential to build in any direction you chose or not. Great vid and content :)
Thank you, it’s a beautiful machine
*Your softail looks and sounds great.* You made the correct choice ;) Enjoy the hell out of it.
Thanks buddy 👍🏼👍🏼
I love the profile of the new seat, it really smooths out the overall look oF the bike. I still like the sound of my V&H Twin Slash slip ons on my Heritage M8 with a torque cam. Great looking bike there Mr. Darcy!
Thank you, torque cam is definitely something I want to do to mine!
Great vid as always👍👍
Thank you!
interesting test. they are common things between them and so many differences. each one have good features.
i tested CMX 1100, it is another world with the DCT gearbox. unfortunately not able to be driven by A2 licence, even if engine is only 87HP you can't set it to 47,5HP.
Interesting, we have the cmx1100 dct up for review very soon!
@@MrDarcy-OlMan Good. It will be interesting to see your comments
Harley Davidson? I'm in. 😍👍🏼👍🏼🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
Yea 💯💯
I have a fat boy , had Harleys for over 35 years. However I also have an Interceptor. The Harley is better for two up cruising and has held its value. But it’s very heavy ( I’m 58 had a heart attack and have a very bad knee).
The Enfield is light lithe and far better handling . In a way they compliment each other. As I get older and if my leg worsens I may get rid of the Harley, but not until I have to.
That makes complete sense, Harley’s are very heavy.
Brill vid love both bikes .but really looking forward to 1100 rebel vid
Thanks, coming soon!
I think comparing the rebel 1100 to the Harley would’ve been a better comparison. With that said I did enjoy your video I always do.
Yes it was more because of the A2 comparison as to whether it’s worth restricting a Harley or getting a bike that is already compatible. Possibly could do another comparison when we get the 1100 to review
I’ll stick with my 21’ Diavel Dark Stealth, cheers
Cool 👍🏻
Started on a Honda Shadow 750. It was 11 years old with 20k miles and only £4k (with a new custom paint job). I wanted something that was reliable and not too expensive if things did go wrong during trips. I plan to sell it in a couple of years for a Harley Seventy Two and spend the next decade covered in chrome polish 🤣
Ahaha yes chrome polish would be a necessity
Yes that’s true. There’s a lot to be said for mid capacity bikes for sure. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
@@MrAndrew1953 yes fuel prices have gone insane!
Rebel 500 feels like riding my dad's 150cc naked bike from honda, basically it is with bigger displacement
Ahh ok, thanks buddy 👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks buddy. Yes indeed 💯👍🏼
I'm all for Japanese quality and reliability. But man that Harley is beautiful 😍❤️
Thank you!
Rebel is good, but Harley is the best!
For sure!
Blimey, I thought it was the ol man!
Haha, I’m not that old yet 😁🤣
I wish Honda had chosen another name to start with. The Rebel moniker takes me back to the entry level 250 and 450s. They had decent engines but kinda goofy looking. The 500 and 1100 Honda Rebels still have similar benefits and liabilities.
Honda have bikes that don't ape cruiser styling and are certainly more appealing visually to me. I certainly would not be consider myself a Harley man and generally prefer the Honda brand over the Harley brand, however you would have to be considered legally blind to pick any Rebel over that Harley.
Yea interesting. This Harley is also badly named as a Softail Standard. It should be a Street Bob Classic. 👍🏼👍🏼
Awesome bud cheers 👍🏻
Thanks bud 👍🏻
Great review Mr D altho i think your in love with the Harley and rightly so its a harley and youve had the pleasure to ride it .
I hope to do my A test in the nxt 6 mths and i really want a rebel 500 .
I think for new riders and for affordability the rebel is more within reach.
Thanks buddy, yes I am very much in love with the Harley! Absolutely the Rebel is much more achievable for most riders.
All great bikes, the heritage is certainly a fantastic machine. Harley’s build quality is also fantastic.
I’ve got a 2020 street Bob and it’s the best bike there is. A few weeks avond I had the chance riding a 114 street glide and i wouldn’t think of changing my street Bob for a street glide, the Bob is much more fun!!!
Ok awesome 👍🏼
Your Softail looks especially pretty in this vid, great light. Personally I'd take the Standard over the Street Bob anyway! The seat and those slash cut mufflers bump it up several notches as well 🤤
Thank you very much! My new camera certainly makes it look even better 😁
@@MrDarcy-OlMan Sure does, super sharp
I almost traded my heritage for a street glide, walked away…just not ready to give it up , maybe someday I will buy one without having to trade
We prefer the heritage over the street glide personally.
My guess is that the Heritage has a more cushy ride? Going from the road king to the FLHXS was a shock due to the stiffer ride.

Is yours not an M8? I have an FXLRS, with a bassani RR3, and yours sounds flipping unreal! Are they just V&H slip ons?
Yeah it’s a 107 m8, just slip ons. They do sound pretty sweet! 😁
The comparison is valid, mainly because the feeling is one of the most important aspects within the Cruise category, isn't it?
Sorry, but I prefer a used but true cruiser with a true V2 engine. It can be a Japanese cruiser but with a true V2 engine. I own Vulcan 900 with custom exhaust and I absolutely love it. Parallel twins are crap (tried Honda and Yamaha nakeds with parallel twins).

Okay ... I think I've been watching you and the Ol' Man blast down the WRONG side of the road too much. Somewhat distracted thinking of your vids I got on my KTM, blasted off and after a block or two I found myself wondering why that car in MY lane was coming at me.

Hondas are well made, low maintenance, good value and usually quite able ...
but they're boring!

I feel like unless you have masses of disposable income Harleys are just unreachable so the question of which is better kind of becomes moot. I doubt I'd ever be able to afford one much as I'd like one.

I love my Rebel, but HD is built different lol even the ground is shaking when they pass my house.
I haven’t dropped or crashed the Harley haha, I did have a 50cc before lol
@@MrDarcy-OlMan The 50cc had soaked up all the beginner trouble, it was your "generic" first bike, this is why you deserve a Harley.
Oh yes indeed, it soaked up my begginnerness very well ahaha
I think the honda is better in every way aside from sound and looks are on par.
However I'd pick the harley. Yeah the honda is lighter, better handling, can probably lean more, the 1100 is probably faster but at that point if that's what you care about, why are you looking at cruisers? Get a naked bike then.
Good points mate!
It would be interesting to see how your Harley stacks up against the Rebel 1100.
Yes definitely. We won’t be able to go head to head but I can certainly compare it 👍🏼👍🏼
@@MrDarcy-OlManI recently purchased a Honda rebel 300 and love it. It's not my first bike my first bike was a Buell blast 500. From then I owned smaller bikes until the 300. 3:03 - 3:15 perfectly said my brother.
The parts available for the Harley are enough reason to own one. There’s no end to the customizable options on a softball. In my humble opinion, while Honda certainly makes excellent product the Rebel lacks a soul.
Yes there are endless parts for Harley’s, and the soul is unbeatable!

Honda are all about practicality and sportiness
As a starter bike, get something second hand and cheap. Spending Harley money on a first bike seems pretty silly. Ride for a year or two on a nice cheap bike and you'll be a better rider.

Yes; completely
Intereptor 650 vs Iron 883 which is vetter driving machine? and Iron 883 vs Triumph T100?
Iron has the nicer sound and torquey engine but interceptor rides better. Iron over T100 👍🏼👍🏼
What about average suspension set-up of inter and what about weird seat and sitting comfort is not what it should be🤔?🙂
Just wondering how these two would fare on alpine twisty road…
Both would be okay, Honda would be better on the really tight corners.

What about comparing the HD with another US “monster” like Indian?
Yes we’ve struggled to get hold of any Indians for a few years. We’re hoping to get one soon to review.
Absolutely agree buddy, well said!
In my case the problem is not the economy but the experience. I am a completely beginner and despite my dream Harley Davidson is the Sport Glide I am considering buying the Honda Rebel 500 first to improve technique and gain experience. What would you suggest?
