Thank you for this video, my freezer been getting ice in it for months, and fridge stopped keeping temperature. Followed your video and removed a iceberg of ice. All working now. Thanks to this video I’m no longer needing buy new fridge freezer
I bought a Hotpoint FFU4DK Quadrio second hand. It had the exact same water leak problem. The rubber seal/ non-return valve (NRV) was blocked up. Thanks for the video it's been a great help
Thanks for the video, I think my problem should be solved. I cut the rubber tubing and ran a thin wire from the evoporator down the drain hole. Much appreciated.
Yep, great. Thanks for this. I wasn't confident yanking off the fan panel, but seeing it off here helped me understand how to get it off in our quadrio. Defrosting the ice block at the bottom now, will clean out the drain, and leave off the rubber valve for now. Hopefully that will just end the problem this time.
Thanks man cleaned the ice build a week ago and reset it just today. Didn't check the drain hole or the back will do that now once light comes on or so. This helped.👍
Never have I owned such a problematic fridge freezer but that said I'm am presently cursed with this waste of space so Video is a great help thank-you.
Hey I have issues with my Hotpoint fridge freezer it keep bleeping I tried switch it off unplugged it then plugged it back in tried reset after watching your video but still beeping .. is there anything else I could try ? Or so you have any advice
This is a self-defrosting model. The moist air is circulated from the compartments and freezes on the heat exchanger by design to capture it. Then there is a cyclic heating which thaws the ice (this is the banging / clicking noise you often here when the thawed ice drops off the element and the water runs out the drain. The trouble is, if the door of the fridge is left open too often / long, the amount of ice defeats the heater and the ice remains and blocks the hole. I had the same problem today, cleared the ice, including that in the hole and that seemed to sort it. It is also possible that the ice blockage actually freezes the fan solid so that too stops the fridge working. The problem has been made much worse these last few weeks with high humidity overwhelming the frost free system
Hi, got same sort of problem, but it looks like your heating element was also frozen, might something you want to check out. That black plug, I am going to remove as well seems useless to me. I found many have this same issue, some interesting recommendations I found was: if you turn both dials off then the right dial on, off, on, off it should go into a self test, fan should run, baffle open, defrost heater comes on compressor run.... So if you want to check if your defroster works run the self test with all that ice on the heating element, you should see it melting then. Another thing I found in a forum was this: Service engineer arrived and removed the ice blockage but also carried out a simple modification that involved relocating the defrost heating element to a lower position that prevents the icing. Another suggestion was a coper wire from the defrost element into the hole to keep it warm and avoid building ice up there. Hope that helps :-)
The point of the rubber ‘seal’ - as you call it- is effectively a non-return valve (NRV) which allows water out of the freezer but not air back in. Remember that the air above the compressor is hot and this is used to evaporate the water from its tray. If you remove it, warm air will be allowed to rise into the evaporator compartment thus reducing the efficiency of the freezer. I cleaned the hole and NRV with a small bottle brush but there was very little debris in there. But it did not cure the problem. You said you would report back with your findings. Did you manage to fix it in the end? There are hundreds of complaints on the internet about this problem and Hotpoint have re-designed the heater such that it reaches further down below the evaporator. They have also altered the firmware such that the heating time is extended to ensure that all of the ice is thawed. What puzzles me is why the fault doesn’t manifest for several years ( although my most recent problem I believe was instigated by hot humid weather.). I can pour water down the drain hole quite happily with the NRV valve fitted, yet the hole is still blocked with ice when I remove the panels after a period of time - even the next day after de-icing the whole thing. Very strange. So I think it must be associated with the bad original design. Unless there is a thermistor fault or something like that.
The video was very useful although typically long winded, the facts work. I’ll just make a couple of additions: there are actually five or six screws not just two. Three short, three long set in deep recesses. Then both panels come away together. I unplugged the fan and then used a hair dryer to melt the ice. It’s the ice saturating a temperature sensor based in the bottom right and filling the airflow ducts which stops the fridge working. Clear all the ice, reassemble, reset by pressing both buttons together for a good ten to twenty seconds and after a few moments the fridge comes back to life. Obviously takes time, about six hours for the correct temperature to be achieved. Saved my daughter the price of a new fridge. Obviously there’s a design fault, so my non pro advice would be to defrost the fridge every few months.
Great job mate!! Very well explained, Keep it up This video helped me so much, saved me from buying another 1, thnku so much god bless 👍 is ther any other appliances you can fix or made videos?
Trouble with this model was the chiller plates should have went to the bottom but stopped short that’s why ice built up below them. Under warranty I had mine extended thus preventing build up although the drain hole did block up after fifteen years. Not bad really.
Hi. Thanks for the great video. A huge relief to discover the our fridge freezer is actually working fine. just needing a bit of maintenance. That rubber gadget you have taken off the back is sort of non return valve. Any water that comes down the escape pipe will open the valve and drip through then self seal, to an extent, to stop anything passing up it. It's the same as on a vehicle air filter, allowing water to pass out rather than be ingested into the engine. So you might want to refit it. The tray below it looks to be over the compressor motor, or in the region of, so that the normal limited amount of water that could reach it would evaporated away with the heat in that area. Interesting information about cleaning the fins on the back to save money and increase the units efficiency. I think a major spring clean is coming for our machine ! Thanks again.
I'm having problem with fridge it's not cooling freezer works just fine I have reset it and I hope it will go back to normal my fridge is hotpoint ff200e
This is a problem with the heater element, HOTPOINT never made it big enough. They sell an extended version that reaches the drain hole to stop the freezing. I had to do this same job 2-3 times to thaw out the ice. Rather than buy a new heater element at £120 I pulled the original element down toward the drain hole as a final hail mary attempt to fix it. It worked fridge is still going 10 years later.
Hi no photos as it's all back together and still going after 10 year.It was a final Hail Mary attempt to fix it as i had already tried the copper wire etc and after 3 times defrosting with a hair dryer i basically pulled the heater pipe at the lower left corner down toward the drain hole.If i had broken the pipe it was either a new heater or new fridge 😂

Can i still reset my fridge even if it's not blinking?? only fridge is not cooling.. freezer is ok
Can you please make a video on freezer working but fridge not.
Thanks for the advice on resetting the Fridge Freezer.

Im pleased it helped. Thanks for the feedback
Brilliant, Thanks for taking the time to make this video, much appreciated.
My pleasure, I’m glad it helped
Mines was the exact same filthy lol
It was lol I’m doing mines tonight floor soaking cheers great video also well done
Thanks for watching 👍

It’s a self-frosting fridge freezer? Do you mean check for excess ice on the evaporator / heater?

I’ve unscrewed my back panel, mine has 3 screws but when I pull nothing comes off lol ?
There are more screws in the deep holes. Need a long shafted screw driver
I had a hotpoint FF200E Which I had a back in 16 coach mews Sutton Road yep 2015-16
Trouble with this model was the chiller plates should have went to the bottom but stopped short that’s why ice built up below them. Under warranty I had mine extended thus preventing build up although the drain hole did block up after fifteen years. Not bad really.
Hi , how can I take the fan housing off please I took the screws off , but still find it hard to remove it ...thanks
Be brave just pull at each corner.
Great video. That's mine sorted. Thanks.
Great 👍
I couldn’t take the lights off...... but I have another problem the top is not cooling. Any help please. Thanks
Did you defrost the freezer compartment as I showed in the video?
