    Nice video, remember folks if you have wood rot in your window sill (or any where else), you must address that issue or it will spread, apply an anti rot agent first, then fill in as per video etc...

    Great video Aubrey!That window frame was transformed!I didn't realise myself that the stain would cover the colour of the filler so well.

    Hi Aubrey, good tip for dealing with 2k on stained wood.
    Ask you decorating merchants to put some mahogany universal tint from the machine in a kettle for you.
    You dont need very much at all, mix a very small amount in with the filler with the hardener. It will give you a much closer colour before applying the stain.

    I've been restoring some old doors. They were dipped then stained. Left them in a right state. Cracks everywhere. Been using BIN as a primer, followed by that two part stuff for the big holes and old damage. I wish they'd make a slow cure version. It's hard to smooth; have to pat it into place. Then a surface fill and sand, another coat of BIN, then top coat (or prime and top coat if it's that expensive paint that's popular right now). Lot of faffing about, but the results are worth the time.

      Yes, doing jobs like that can be quite frustrating and very time consuming. However, the majority of the time the finished result is worth the effort. Good stuff 😊

    Great video Aubs! As you say it’s a bit pricey but vastly superior to the powdered alternative. I have found the Filter 7 doesn’t cover the filler that well so always put a decent coat of Coloron Wood dye on beforehand. Then finish with the Sikkens 7. Have a great Christmas 😘

      Thanks Kathy, yes a good tip about the old wood dye, I will give that a go. Should save time and coats of stain. Have a great Christmas as well Kathy 🎄

    Could you make a video showing the best method to fix cracks around inside door frames? Where the frame meets the wall.

    Would you recommend completely stripping old exterior window trim paint? Or will I get away with sanding/scraping/filling etc? It’s flaking and damaged in parts if that helps

    • @AubreysAbsoluteDecorating

      As long as the existing coatings are adhering well to the surface then you should be able to leave them. Where you scrape paint off, feather out the edges by abrading with a 120 grade abrasive so that there is not a visible step. Hope all goes well for you.

    Thank you for the very helpful videos. But I have a problem. I did all of the ledges just as you advised, but I forgot to use primer over the filler on one of the ledges and varnished straight on to it. Should I do anything about this or will it be ok?

    • @AubreysAbsoluteDecorating
      @AubreysAbsoluteDecorating  Рік тому

      Glad you are finding the videos helpful. Hopefully all should be ok. Perhaps give it an extra coat to give it added protection.

    Hi Aubrey - are you applying the HLS plus as the primer before filling and is that the same as the topcoat? Thank you!

    • @AubreysAbsoluteDecorating
      @AubreysAbsoluteDecorating  3 роки тому +1

      Yes, the HLS is being used as the primer for the bare timber areas followed by the Filter 7 which is a thicker product used for the top coats.

  • @jackwardley3626
    @jackwardley3626 2 роки тому +1

    would be better if they still made a one pack oil filler that doesnt dry as fast think linseed putty is best filler thinned down with raw linseed oil for skimming. for exterior timber.

    Hi Aubrey. I always thought the Ronseal 2 part filler was fine on bare wood? It’s even wood colour. Am I wrong about this?

    • @AubreysAbsoluteDecorating
      @AubreysAbsoluteDecorating  3 роки тому +1

      Hi, yes it is probably ok to do that but I prefer to prime first as I do believe it helps the filler to adhere to the surface better and stay in place longer. Hope all is going well with the decorating 😊

    • @gdpaintingdecorating5704
      @gdpaintingdecorating5704 3 роки тому +1
