Johnny Cash was a storyteller who used music to entertain his audience. His gift was he was able to instantly connect to his listeners. You can bet that most of this San Quentin audience hear the story of their own lives in this performance as the facts are that most of them didn't have a father to raise them either. That's why they laughed so easily to his words. It's a tragedy that so many our young people today are growing up with little influence from a father.
Really so he actually has an album called San Quentin that’s dope and crazy at the same time but I’m pretty sure they appreciated his performance……Rob 🔒

Ok, so aside from the song called Hurt, which was a remake of a NIN song, this was one of the first Johhny Cash songs I heard. From what I gather, the father was always a pos. I imagine he wasn't a good husband or father. The only thing a mean spirited sob like that could understand is that a man has to be tough in this rough world. The only thing he could think of was naming his boy Sue so he'd have to toughen up quick. With a man like that, playing catch, or teaching his boy how to fish wasn't in the cards. So he did something he thought was a good idea... Well sonofabitch! It actually worked. An amazing song from an amazing storyteller.
Hi guys. Just an FYI. Johnny was a con singing to cons. They saw him as one of them. Plus he was very popular and got a lot of play time on the radio. If you have time check out "One piece at a time" by Johnny Cash. It should make you laugh. Thank you

Hands down the best line I've ever heard about this song
'She said what about the baby? He said Sue me!' LMAO!! 🤣
100 %💯
First time he preformed it he was doing a concert in San Quinton. His audience understood father's leaving nothing but an empty bottle.
He forgot a verse. “Some gal would giggle and I’d turn red, some guy’d laugh and I’d bust his head”.
Remember the audience are inmates

I laughed at the beginning of the song about how the father left them a empty bottle of booze. Come on now, that's hilarious
He also sang songs that can bring a tear to your eyes.
Now you should watch the last song he did, ‘Hurt’….it’s sort of a goodbye to his life, he died 7 months after recording it….goosebumps!
Can’t listen to that song without tearing up.
Hurt is not his song/story, it's a cover (a freaking fantastic cover) of the Nine Inch Nails song.
1 piece at a time by Johnny!!!
