Fralin Set: Alnico 2 - 7.8k neck and 8.2k bridge
Custom Buckers: Alnico 3 - 8.0 neck and 8.55 bridge
Lick 1 - full guitar volume
Lick 2 - guitar volume 4
Lick 3 - guitar volume 7
lick 4 - full guitar volume
Played the same licks as close as possible. Pickups loaded into the same guitar, with the same amp on the same exact settings. 1 close mic only. Reverb from logic.
The pickup heights are relatively the same. The pole screws were adjusted to taste.
RS Guitarworks electronics in my guitar. EQcable cables being used.
It sounds like the Fralins are hotter. They are definitely distorting more in the first section (0-1:00). That made me think the Gibsons sounded better at first. But then on the clean sections (between 1:00 and 3:00), I thought the Fralins sounded better. I would probably choose the Fralins and just back off the gain or the volume know when I needed a cleaner tone.
That Fralin bridge pickup sounds great!
Alnico III for the win!
I just bought a new 1960 reissue, and was debating whether to take my Fralin's out of my old Classic and put them in it then sell the Classic. I've always been a huge fan of Lindy's stuff, but these Custom Buckers are fantastic! Both sets sound great and have their own, different, thing going on. I think I'll be keeping both guitars now, as they are :)
Nice! Congrats!
You have tried so many humbuckers! I’m looking for the thickest, most dynamic and rich in “double tones”. Any recommendations?
Thickest like PAF? Or thickest like super high output, not clear, etc?
I listened to this and the gibsons won easily. I was worried that me watching was subconsciously distorting my opinion. I CLOSED my eyes and listened through headphones. Opened them every time the tone made me say "Hot damn". EACH time I opened it was the custombuckers!
Thanks for all the input! Hope you subscribe and share!
Interesting, to me it was the opposite. (:
I would probably like the fralins better because they are less bright.
57 classic/ classic + vs Fralin is something id check out
Cool!
Pickup Master I have bustbucker pro. Can you suggest they do stand a chance against Fralin pure Paf 7.5 /8 k. Any thoughts as i am thinking is it worth the swap. Your reply can save some buck of mine. Thankyou
I think it would prob be worth it.
@@VisualGuy Thankyou dear
Gibosns are clearer sounding. The Fralin's sounded kind of dull in my ears.
I’m kinda surprised but I think the custombuckers dominate this one.
Hey, I liked them more than I expected!
Visual Guy they seem to have a bit of crunch and clarity that the others don’t, but they also have a slightly unpleasant upper mid range signature. I’m a little torn.
LiquidNarwhal Personally, I’d pick the Fralins, because I can always adjust the piles down for more dullness if needed. But if I had the Gibson’s and a bright amp... I’d probably leave it alone!
Visual Guy the fuzziness that a lot of the PAF clones seem to bring can also be a problem, although in most cases that’s more the amp from my experience. Anyways I hope you’ll keep making these, they’re all great. 👍🏼
@@LiquidNarwhal Thank you. I am taking a break from the shootouts for a bit. It is a lot of work, especially managing them all into separate clips, even recycling footage. But I'll revisit with another line up. I did save all the footage and notes on settings so I can recreate the sound pretty easily as far as guitar/chain/amp/recording. I hope you subscribed, and enjoy the other videos. I have a lot of single demos of lots of other boutique stuff too. Thanks for appreciating the work, but it is really fun to do and makes for great conversation. I enjoy it! Cheers my friend!
