What makes the Gibson Custombucker pickups so special?? Larry is here to tell us!
Even though it has been around for several years, this is Gibson's most recent attempt to recreate the sound of the original PAF Humbuckers that Gibson introduced in the 1950s. If you want them new, you can only get these pickups in Custom Shop Guitars. Of course, you can pick them up used on the internet - you will pay a hefty price for them...Are they worth it?
Do they sound exactly like the original PAF pickups? Which one of the thousands that were produced are you talking about? You have heard people refer PAF as Warm and Smooth or Bright and Articulate, or just about any word that you can think of can be referred to as the PAF pickup.
The Custombucker is an unpotted pickup as all PAF pickups were. This means there was no wax used to seal the components together. All the nerdy details aside...these are great sounding pickups.
