ELP will forever live in our hearts and minds but I give these guys the highest credit ...they did an impeccable job interpreting this. Sign me up as a fan!
Super job on a brilliant piece of music!!! This originally started out as the music score for a movie based on the Jack Higgins novel Storm Warning. But when the project fell apart it was reworked into Pirates for the band.
Actually, when they started working on it, they were going to make it another sci-fi, post-apocalyptic piece until Regina Lake spoke up and said that a pirate themed song would go over much better. That’s from the source. Thanks for listening.
This frontman SHOULD be hired by Carl Palmer to sing the old ELP songs. What an incredible voice, very similar to Lake's. And the whole band is to be congratulated too.
Always a pleasure to hear the music of ELP kept alive! Been finding more people posting their work of ELP on UA-cam these days. The Brain Salad Surgery tour @ Madison Square Garden (Welcome Back album) was the greatest show I had ever seen. Only topped 38 years later by Roger Waters performing “the Wall” at Yankee Stadium (17th row on the field) Great job guys! 👍🏻🍻❤️😎
Fantastic! So glad the algorithm threw this up for me. Have always loved ELP and this is one of my all time favourites. Brilliant to see it covered so magnificently and, as others have said, sounds just like Greg Lake. Well done!
How is this even possible? Even when ELP recorded this, they used an entire Orchestra, and all three of these guys sound almost exactly like the original studio recording. ELP wrote some of the most complex, difficult to play music, not only in rock, but in any genre, and these guys not only pulled it off, they excelled at it. Think of the hours and hours of work that must have went into this. I am blown away. Wow. Much respect. Bravo.
Wow, excellent. Great sounds you got on your boards. The vocals are much better than a past video. I am amazed that the recording of the drums sounds like the album. Much thanks for keeping the music alive.
What a nice surprise to find this. We attended this show - it was great fun! I've been an ELP fan since the early 70's and saw them live many times. These guys do a great job of representing them. It was our first time at Daryl's House. Food was good and the show great. We'll be back!
Guys you are great, it is hard to even come close to Greg's voice but you did, fantastic, thank you for this tribute for one of the greatest Bands EVER
I saw ELP in Dayton Ohio just before the WORKS tour. I was just 15 at the time and it was a 'general admission' show. I stood six foot at 15 but when the few doors opened and everyone pushed forward to get in I was literally lifted off of my feet and moved forward. I remember panicking a bit. A time later THE WHO would play Cincinnati and people died. General admission tickets to rock concerts (more or less) stopped after that. The show blew my f*cking mind! I've been a slave to prog-rock ever since. I'm 63 today and still play ELP at a volume neither my neighbors or my wife can fully understand or appreciate. 😛🤣
I guess the first song I heard was Lucky Man then like everyone else, became amazed at the creative and talented trio. It sounds like twelve guys on stage but, no just three guys doing all that. unfreaking real.
Damn! Great arrangement and performance...and solid vocals, which I didn't expect. Seriously great job! And look at that Behringer Deep Mind handle big chunks of the keyboard parts. Didn't expect that. Thanks much for the post
I know, right? Great vocals are hard so I never expect that from covers. I was very pleasantly surprised! And you're right about Behringer. They've upped their game.
Thanks, bewalker25! When i set out to learn this song, i had to choose from one of two presentations. The first was do do it the way Keith played it without the orchestra - with the sound of the Yamaha GX-1. I felt this had a sort-of "wimpy" sound however, and for as grandiose a song as Pirates, my thoughts were that the orchestral version was the way to go to give it the gravitas it required. That said, Keith was the Maestro and composer, so any way he chose to do it was correct for him. However, for myself, as a man paying homage to Maestro, full orchestra sound was my choice. I'm so glad you liked it. Cheers!

Amazing live off the floor performance! Killer accuracy for such a complicated composition and wonderful Greg Lake sounding singing!

"If you've the stomach for a broadside.." Loved this album since it came out. Saw in 1976.

Great job guys! 👍🏻🍻❤️😎
I love the sound of a five string bass. Coincedentally I was talking about them at work yesterday and now his has appeared on my feed. Excellent.
From Keith's Yamaha GX1 to a Behringer Deep Mind 6! 😂. I love it! I have the DM 12. Outstanding vocals!!!
Nice Alembic bass guitar! Great performance by all. Bass player's voice is great. Keyboard player was fantastic as well.

ELP ( cover ) very good. Here from Brazil.
Pirates is ELPs masterpeice! So awesome you all performed it!!
Very nice. My brother (RIP) and I used to jam on this. He played keys. I played drums.
Wow that is awesome, sounds like Greg.
Couldn't ask for a better cover of such a difficult piece of music. I saw this performed live, lo so many years ago and was thrilled to find this.
Fantastic! So glad the algorithm threw this up for me. Have always loved ELP and this is one of my all time favourites. Brilliant to see it covered so magnificently and, as others have said, sounds just like Greg Lake. Well done!
This is simply wonderfull. The Bass players singing voice is the cream on the coffee......Excelent!

ELP also played it live. See videos of their 1990s reunion performances- Royal Albert Hall I think.
Wow, excellent. Great sounds you got on your boards. The vocals are much better than a past video. I am amazed that the recording of the drums sounds like the album. Much thanks for keeping the music alive.
That singer's voice... WOW!
Can't wait to see you guys in a couple of weeks. Awesome!!

From a forever fan of ELP, you guys serve them well! 👏
Hey guys, great performance. Was a big ELP fan growing up. And I still listen to them all the time.
Well done lads.
DAMN WELL DONE.

Awesome, you nailed it.
Good job on a hard piece. I still remember the 77 orchestra tour, and that was just another level.
Nice job by this band! I’ve been a big ELP since my first concert ever in 1977. Tough to replicate that sound but wow, what a great tribute! Thanks
Wonderful, great music played by musicians....one of ELP's great works.....from Works Vol 1
The musicianship speaks for itself. The vocals, so Carl true. put me right over the edge. These guys rock!
You mean Greg, but we get it.
I guess the first song I heard was Lucky Man then like everyone else, became amazed at the creative and talented trio. It sounds like twelve guys on stage but, no just three guys doing all that. unfreaking real.
Ron sounds so much like Greg Lake. I was amazed how close his voice matches Lake.
Phenomenal! Super talented!!!!!
Wow! Man, this is no easy piece to play and Manticore does a heck of a job with this ELP classic. Congrats, guys. Well done, indeed!
Nice to see something a bit different at Daryl’s House. Been a fan of EPL since ‘Pictures..’
I hope the audience there appreciate what they witnessed. Thank you
....and will again on Sunday April 21! LOL! Shameless self-promotion! Thanks, @Surfinmars!
I'm sure they do to even be invited to this.
Fantastic. 👍
Brilliant!
Awesome guys!! 👏👏👏👏👏👏🥇🎩💎

Hell yeah! I feel the spirit! (and Tarkus should know)
that was really well done, very difficult to play!
Even had Emmo’s old shirt ,hahaha
Good eye! Most folks miss that. Cheers!
Excellent performance!

Wow! This is awesome!
Double pistol grip alembic bass, five string, beautiful.
Well done!
That 5 string Alembic Scorpion bass is too cool.
You noticed it, too!
That was really excellent.
Awesome!
Larga vida ELP
😎👍🏻🎶🎶🎶🎶👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Gregory Lake brought back to life
That was really really good
Although I don't fashion myself to Keith Emerson, he is the reason I play synthesizers
That's probably the best cover of any song I've ever heard.
I'm blown away.
Great job!!
Awesome
Bravo Zulu
Now I remember why I never listened to them before. What a scattered noise.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
👍🏴☠️
Kevin Ellman😯
fantastic
Cool. Where did you get the shirt?
wow that voice. wtf
Thanks for the Prague Darrell
I'd pay to see them before Palmers mess of a show
I wonder how much one of those gongs cost?
HOLY F
the same Alembic bass that Lake had?

Was Paiste-Becken doch ausmachen können!
Thanks, but John doesn’t use Paistes. He uses a new cymbal company - Mehteran Cymbals, made in Turkey - engraved with his personal logo.
