    Have been riding all kind of bikes for the past 40 years, on track, off road, American, German, Japanese… have had it for 11000 km and have never experienced the on/off effect you highlight, nor the flaws of the drive shaft or gear box, mine has an amazing chassis /suspensions, and I come from a GS 1200 LC, and a buttery gear box in all gears, first included. I still have an RT1150 and it rightfully feels like a bike from 20 years ago compared to this amazing Guzzi, probably the most easy and balanced and satisfying bike I have ever owned. Unless you look for rocket power which I dont, pleasure wise, for me, unbeatable.

      @@allanhughes7859 The V85TT is ideal for a long trip. Supremely comfy, and with a huge tank range meaning far fewer fuel stops. My 2022 TT Travel is super smooth at 70mph It just eats up the miles! Buffeting is an issue. but is not bad enough for me to mess about with after market screens. Thanks for the review. Putting the Guzzi on SPORT mode sharpens/fixes throttle response. This is my 5th bike and my second Guzzi. No, its not perfect but is a great package. Im no longer "boy racer" . The bike has good power and torque. and handles very well. Obviously not a high performance sled. Kind of a neoclassic. Thanks for your opinions. No sarcasm intended.

      Regarding the throttle response I haven't had the experience that you've got. However, NO, I don't like the fly by wire especially off road. I understand they are using it because of cruise control but it cannot be modulated like a traditional double cable throttle.
      Here's a minus that we can add to the list. The Euro 5 emissions have made the bike run rough. Of course, this can be fixed with mapping or Power commander but it is a hassle. Unfortunately, air cooled engines are very hard to make them comply to the new emissions standards and the climate communists will never stop pushing for even stricter numbers. This is nothing new, it has been going on for at least 25 years and counting. Ride safely, take care.

      I was thinking the same Ted. I've had my 22 Guardia D'Onore for only four months and broken in pretty well with almost 3000 miles on her. I use sport setting mainly, rain and off-road when needed and I don't have that throttle lag mentioned in the review. The gear box is a bit clanky, though hasn't missed any gear selections. It feels durable. It's easy to maneuver at slow speed and a dream to ride in the twisties here in Colorado. I love the bike. After 20 years on Harley's and dirt bikes, the V85TT is by far my favorite.

    I test rode a 2019 model and experienced the dead spot in the throttle as mentioned around 6:00. Thank you for bringing this up! This is the only review on UA-cam that I have come across that mentions it.
    The bike I rode was part of a demo-day, so I wondered if there was something wrong with it from a previous ride/rider. I mentioned it to the folks running the demo, and they blipped the throttle in neutral and kind of shrugged it off.
    My current bike is cable operated and extremely sensitive, so I was starting to think it was me. I REALLY like v85, but I don’t think I could live with the bike until that’s resolved.

    • @VToldsMotoShow
      @VToldsMotoShow  Рік тому

      In neutral it feels totally fine - so when you rev the bike. I also tried it under different circumstances and it was noticeable when riding at lower gears, so when in gear and when the bike's the most sensitive to throttle.
      Thanks a ton for sharing that as I feel it's really important and it bothered me. Most comments are of course from owners shouting that "their mum is the best" (I'd be doing the same likely) and no such things exist but this can cause new owners who haven't tested the bike enough, disappointed. Making Moto Guzzi hear about it can help as they can fix it if they know that we can feel it.

    I have first version MG V85TT 2019. It is well balanced and relaxing motorcycle. The truly strong side of this bike is a style, and performance in twisty back roads - mounting passes. Man, people on the streets are constantly turning their heads to watch me. Such a unicorn and unique looking bike, like no others. I have no issues for now regarding reliability. Changed the exhaust, stock is bad. And off-road capability is so underrated. In tarmac roads it works like a diesel machine. Offroad regime completely changed the bike . Last week I conquered Abano Pass in Georgia. One of the most challenging gravel roads in the Europe, and this machine was reborn in my eyes there. Yes, on pavement roads it is s little boring, but I'm looking forward to V100 TT Adventure in the near future.
    And the quality of the production materials is on a remarkable level. Not like the plastic Japanese bikes.
    And one more thing, the throttle response is really not so great because of the ride-by-wire, but the vibrating and shaky engine give the motorcycle a character and a soul.

    • @VToldsMotoShow
      @VToldsMotoShow  Рік тому +1

      Thank you for showing another perspective - it's much appreciated to see a real owner's point of view. I think that it can be considered pretty unique. Much respect to the balancing, agility in corners, control and a whole idea of putting a driveshaft there. And yeah, ride-by-wire might need refining in the future by Moto Guzzi. I'd be very interested to check what the outcome would be then. All the best with your V85 TT!

    I used to have an 800gs with about 80-85hp and it weighed much less. I have to confess, there were enough moments when I wanted just a bit more power for my own safety. Not much, just a bit more. Even the 90hp of the bonneville feels like a massive improvement.

      I think I know exactly what you mean. What's interesting is that having ridden a not much more powerful V-Strom 1000 for years (approx. 100 HP), that bike never felt like not having enough power. The thing is about how, how much, and when that power is delivered. On an F800GS - and 850 too - I always wish that they had more power myself. But hey, then the answer is: R1250GS.

    Fun review, dziękuję :-) I have a 2020 bike which has none of the fuelling issues you experienced. I wonder if they've cocked it up a bit in the search for Euro5 compliance?🤔 Regarding the gears - it is an agricultural gearbox, but it sounds to me like your press bike had been used and abused, especially with the way the front brake was - that's not normal! They can be quite sensitive to clutch cable adjustment so that might have been the issue there. As you discovered - they are NOT bikes for people who want to ride aggressively everywhere - look elsewhere if that's your idea of fun. They are much better suited to a long ride chuffing along at more sensible speeds. Finally, yes the switch gear is... unique... let's say. And I have been caught out when I accidentally knocked that bloody kill switch too 😅 cześć.

    • @VToldsMotoShow
      @VToldsMotoShow  Рік тому +1

      Cześć! Thanks for the input and I also wonder if the gearbox was acting up because the bike had been ridden really harshly before. I guess we will never know but on the other hand it might be exactly as you say - it's not a bike to be ridden to its limits at all times. The more I ride, the more I feel that every bike has its preferences and having a type of rider on top of it, who doesn't match the bike's character, simply won't work for both - the bike and the rider. The only one who can adapt is the rider :). I like the way you described the bike in the comment. It felt like reading about a person - I enjoyed that. All the best and cześć!

    You felt the sideways handlebar "slap" correctly. This is the result of the acceleratiing forces within a transverse mounted engine, any model, any brand. Therefore all Guzzi's have this behavior.

      Very, very possible! Good point!

    • @jav1706
      @jav1706 Рік тому

      It’s actually a longitudinal mounted engine. At least in car lingo it is. The crankshaft arrangement is what determine this. Exaggerate the number of cilinders-at least for this engine-in an imaginative representation just to get the gist of it. A V12 engine. The non-balanced forces on a longitudinal engine are what’s spread transversely. But yes, they can be equalized like in the LC BMW engines.

  • @erikverwoerd5020
    @erikverwoerd5020 Рік тому +1

    Maybe you're roling the throttle too far forward instead of letting it go. It has the function to stop the cruise control if you roll it forward a centimeter further than zero. It will probably happen if you're not yet used to the bike and have too much tension in your hands.

    • @VToldsMotoShow
      @VToldsMotoShow  Рік тому

      Thanks for pointing that out and I'm not sure I was doing that. My riding style is always the same on every bike but still - had I known it before, perhaps I'd pay more attention to this behavior being triggered this way. I've got to say that it would be a bit weird to have such an effect and in the end of the day it anyway makes controlling the throttle at the lowest RPM pretty challenging.

      You can see when the bike starts pulling while rolling the throttle in the video, so this part is out of question or subjective approach - it just was there. One may like it or not and we may discuss this part. I wasn't too much into it. Similar story with the gears even though the camera is not showing the movement of the lever but after having ridden dozens of motorcycles, I do notice the differences between them. Sometimes gears don't want to engage properly but here it was happening very often, so my conclusion is that it simply doesn't work well enough. Or at least not when ridden the way I was riding it - especially during the aggressive parts :). Otherwise it was mostly fine. I hope that this explanation helps. Cheers!

    Thanks for the review of this Guzzi.
    The problem is that despite Italy, where a bike like this is seen. Very few places I suppose. And that fact is a lot of negative points in my opinion. It’s very relevant for me to choose a bike of a Brand that is well represented in the place we are going to ride. And more important if we plan to do long trips with it, because in case of a problem happens we can easily receive the technical assistance that we need.
    This is not too much of an adventure spirit, I know . But a lot of us, we buy an adventure bike because they are shaped to be great all around bikes and not to do so much hard off-road trails, I think.
    Never have ridden this Guzzi and I might try doing just that to get the feeling of it, but I’m not inclined for it as I prioritize powerful bikes. They can be heavy but they must have power enough in order to eliminate its weight. I prefer large bikes to nimble ones. In a near future I’ll try the Husqvarna 901 Norden, the KTM 1290 Adventure R and the BMW R nine T, this last, just because I never did it and everybody says it is a pleasure to ride.

      Hi, thanks for sharing these thoughts. I've got to admit that once I saw R nineT, I wished for an explanation and well, it was great. And actually, I think I could confirm that R nineT is really fun to ride. It's something different, stylish and this I personally could consider retro. With Moto Guzzi, I also think that it's pretty niche and rare. Like Benelli and even Aprilia. There are some advantages and some disadvantages to that. In an adventure category, your point of view says it all as trust matters at least a bit more than in most other categories. I'd also say: definitely try a KTM if you can. Not for the trust definitely, but sometimes the X factor can overpower anything else. All the best!

      I've found that you don't need a lot of HP to enjoy a motorcycle unless you're on the race track. It is all about how you deliver the power, especially when it comes to adventure motorcycles. The Yamaha 800 doesn't have the torque at low end like the V-twins. The entire bike was fine, nothing wrong with it, however, an engine like that would be more appropriate for a street bike. Again, opinions.....everybody looks for something different, everybody has a different taste. Cheers. ride safely.

    No offence but you should take some lessons in order to learn how two ride a motorcycle at low speeds. I remeber that you have mentioned the same problem when you have reviewed the V Strom saying that it's not stable at low speeds. You mentioned at that moment that when you say low speed you mean 40 km/h. I told you it means much less than this. You NEVER completely close the throtle when you are doing manoeuvres at such a low speed you had in the moment you almost touched that car's mirror. You lost the balance because you lost the friction between the transmition and the throtle. On the other hand the fact that you're not able to ride slow is easily to be noticed between 6:21 and 6: 29. The speed was much too high when you rode between the lanes and those cars were moving very low. In this kind of situation a very small stearing manoeuvre made by a driver may be very dangerous.

    • @VToldsMotoShow
      @VToldsMotoShow  Рік тому +6

      Well, I'm not sure how to respond to that, especially that we're clearly coming from two different 'worlds' - one where it's clearly not allowed to filter traffic, and the other one where it is. I live in Europe and aside from maybe, but just maybe, Germany, I'm not aware of any country where filtering would be illegal and not practiced. You're clearly from somewhere else and hence could never experience what we experience daily. There's no term of "speed was much too high when you rode between the lanes (...)" as it totally doesn't make sense to judge. I rode - so clearly the speed wasn't too high". We're riding between cars all our lives here and that's why it may be key how a certain bike feels at low speeds. Check out how people ride in Asia - I could write the same sentence about every rider out there: that they ride too fast between each other and too close. But that's the reality there, end of story. This Moto Guzzi does great in terms of agility and ease of handling but it's got a ride-by-wire throttle issue. V-Strom is not as properly balanced, it's more top-heavy and cannot keep a perfectly straight trajectory at low speeds. I've had a V-Strom 1000 for over 10 years and ridden in through all those places thousands of times, so I've got a feeling that I might have some point of reference here. No need to believe my words - check other videos where I feature that V-Strom. Still having warm thoughts about it tough but it was just not as good as possible at low speeds. It hurts to say and I'll do everything to avoid saying that as I had it and still loved it, but that's how it is and knowing how hard it is to make financially significant purchase decisions, I'm fully dedicated to raw reviews and not giving a cr*p about hurting the feelings of owners as taking that into account will result in biased and untrue reviews. I'm not paid by anyone, so I don't have to please them and believe that it's the only fair way of speaking up publicly. Thanks for the insights and I hope that you can see my point of view and notice the sense in what filtering traffic is about in places like Europe.

    Sorry, the thing with the throttle at 6:10 is not a problem of the Guzzi. It is a problem of the driver. This maneuver was not very smart. This could have happened with any other bike in this situation. And if you were used to this typical motor-movement, you wouldn´t have started this maneuver.
    Nevertheless, this is a very informative video.

    • @VToldsMotoShow

      I believe that the throttle thing is this particular model's thing. So far I've ridden all large adventure bikes within the category and this is the only one with such behavior. This to me means that it's purely a bike thing. The manoeuvre was clearly too confident but it happens in everyday riding and since the bike feels so light and nimble, it encourages the rider to push the boundaries further and further. Here it backfired consistently afterwards, which was surprising to me. Cheers!

      I have to say I kinda agree but in fairness to the reviewer I think he admitted this in the review, that he go a little over-confident too quickly on a bike he just go onto. I have a V85TT and I do agree at low speeds and low revs the responsiveness does feel a little muted coming from other bikes, but to me these are individual characteristics of lots of bikes that you need a couple of days riding to adjust. Having ridden the bike for a few months now I would not even notice this low speed throttle characteristic. Having owned about 12 different bikes from 250 - 1200 CC and currently also riding a CRF1000, I do agree with others that the V85TT is one of the most enjoyable with best handling and no issues with the gearbox. BTW, whatever about the discussion on the legalities of filtering in different jurisdictions, I think at 5:42, pretty much everywhere, leaving the road and riding across a footpath at a pedestrian crossing, could land you with a ticket, :-). And I'm not saying I have never done something like that, I'm just saying, :-). Honestly almost colliding with a car just after that can only be the riders fault. Regardless of what bike you are riding, over confidence too quickly can easily land you in trouble. On the plus side the reviewer showed some skill displayed in saving it so well done on that front! I do wonder if that bad experience at the beginning of the video may have subconsciously soured the bike for the reviewer and amplified every little niggle after that, I might have reacted similarly.
      I do thank the reviewer for his honest opinion and review, it has generated a healthy and lively discussion and I always appreciate another point of view even if my experience with the bike has so far been very positive and different. It has also been said a couple of times, maybe this bike was badly prepared. That Moto Guzzi might do this does not surprise me, their after sales and service network can leave a lot to be desired, they often get poor reviews on this front. That front brake lever definitely looks VERY dodgy, on my bike there is 5-6cm gap between the lever and bar after the brake bites. On the review bike the lever is touching the bar, this is not a good indication about how the bike's condition might be in general. Press bikes can take a lot of abuse, this could also help explain the poor impression that the reviewer had.

      My current bike is cable operated and super sensitive, so the problem with the v85 felt all the worse.
