We live in southeastern Illinois on a 41 acre homestead. We just finished building our log cabin in 2018. Now we are focused on trying to grow our own food and raise livestock. Follow us on our journey we continue to develop our homestead and farm, while becoming more self sufficient.

I have never seen a couple (without outside help) accomplish such achievement in reclaiming and rebuilding a homestead. You are extraordinary and deserve so much adoration!!!
Evan, you have learned so much. Yourself and Rebecca are not afraid to try anything. You are doing great. Very clever deciding where to put your posts. I think your braces are very good. As several people have mentioned. Farmer Tyler is excellent. You should look him up,tell him I said Hi. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
One of numerous things I like about is no fear to make a mistake because they're learning tools. More people should be that way. 👍👍👍
Evan, you always find a way to make things happen and you and Rebecca make a great team working together and getting things done. This farm looks amazing compared to what it was.
I think it's an Awesome sight to see how the 2 of you are improving and becoming self-sustaining going forward ❤❤❤ one day and one project at a time 👍❣️
One method to cap the open ended pipe is to tear off part of a cement bag, wad it up and stuff it in a few inches. Once done, pour/trowel in some wet cement and trowel a crown.
It is amazing the things you too get done without hiring it out. You are an inspiration to all of us.
Great job mate keep it up and look after yourself and your family
Evan and Rebekah are an amazing team!!
Your channel has vastly become my favorite, I've been with you a couple of years now. Your upfront attitude is refreshing only thing I might add in a friendly way is giving Rebecca more shout outs, she does a tremendous job. Also you don't lack any friendly suggestions and I'm sure you pay attention to all of them. God bless both or you.
Definitely agree that this is my favorite channel.
now, cap those open ends of your pipe so they don't fill with rain water and rust off at the ground. Lookin good.
One of the best channels on UA-cam
Good job Evan & Rebekah.
That's 2 3/8" upset tubing... I've used that from our Oil Patch for exactly what you're doing... The only suggestion I have for you is make sure you cap all the posts... The wasps and yellow jackets love those for taking up residence. Once put my hand over one and felt a massive buzzing against my hand... luckily I was still in descent enough shape to escape the attack of their fury
Also capping the tops keeps water out so it doesn’t freeze in there
Campbell soup cans painted international rust brown for caps.😅
2" PVC caps should go right over the end of that.....with a little persuasion.
@@chrisbaumer3364 We dipped our CLEAN soup cans in OSPHO to prevent rusting. Underwater welders use OSPHO to treat steel going beneath salt water. Did 120 cans 13 or 14 years ago and still not rust. Although they have been painted at least five times.
The pipe will fill with rain and over time the post will rust off. My barn lot post are concrete filled. Good job guys.
Farmer Tyler Ranch has a great video on welding pipe
He also made a little jig for cutting the curves on the horizontal pipes. Very slick!
I just said the same thing, that’s where I learned to weld from. He just did this up grade as well those fencing videos will be helpful too @countryviewacres
Evan email FTR he made a template when he welded his fence. I believe he said it went so much faster notching out the posts. I know you both watch each others videos. Keep the videos coming I sure enjoy them.
Greetings from Colorado. Your great grandkids will appreciate your permanent fencing. I built many of those corner posts on our farm years ago, many are still in use today. Cutting the pipe to fit definitely has a learning curve, you will get better and quicker the more you do it. This brings back many memories thanks for sharing it with us.
Love watching you all improve your farm.
I love when you drill a hole and find an unexpected rainbow root. 😂😂😂
It’s even better when it’s not connected at either end!
Wonderful job Evan & Rebekah , will look so nice when done
My dad always said everyone has a PHD, you're either a Doctor or you have a Post Hole Digger!!!
Love that!
Always enjoy watching you two get things done.
Once again. Yalls work ethics are top notch! Shouldn’t have no troubles with yalls fence!!’
Farmer Tyler made a jig to cut his notches.Might be worth a look.
Congratulations, Evan. You didnt break anything on this project. SUCCESS!!!!!
Wow what a job!
Looks great! Plans are coming together!
Instead of capping your pipes to keep water and wasps out we used cans of SPRAY FOAM ....a good squirt and after it hardens you can slice it off flush with top and it takes paint. I used it on our clothes line poles and fence posts 15 years ago and it is still there and water tite.
That fence building crew is top notch. Be carefully some fence company doesn't make your top hand a better offer for wages and time off.
Man you have to be RICH to be a farmer! So much money to just get set up. You both have worked hard and are to be commended. . I don't think I could have done half as well as you guys have done. Good luck in the future.
Great video! Didn’t realize how much hard work went into building a fence.
So enjoy your posts great job Evan and Rebekah. thank you so much
Wow I've never seen anyone go to such extreme for a fence
I'm jealous! You make it look easy. I'm a wooden post guy because I can't weld and I'm too cheap to pay someone else to do it. 😂
Great video as always, loved Rebecca drilling the holes, way to go girl🎉
Boy! You have worked so hard to get to this point! Congratulations!
One bag at bottom one bag at top is all you really need.😊
i like that you want to mow 5 more acres of land, thats why the old fences was so close to the road, they didn't want to mow.
Awesome job guys. A lot of work and time goes into putting up a fence right. Blessings
That is going to be one strong fence. Great work guys keep it up!
Amazing job cleaning the fence on your property. Enjoy your videos. Have a great summer.
Just fantastic, thank you
Great job... Bet it feels good to have that much done - Thanks for sharing....
Good video. You are very creative and not scared to work. I loved Rebeka's ''un huh''. I didn't think the cement bag was disintegrating either. 😊
Looking good so far that fence will hold in a herd of elephants lol haha
In Louisiana we call Dotty before you dig. Keep up the good work. The place is looking good. 😊
I look forward to your videos every week. You are painstakingly patient and well prepared for everything you do. How is the progress on the tractor rebuild coming along?
Next time use mason string to line up your posts. You can easily move it about and then mark your holes. It stretches tight over fairly long distances and is fine except for very windy days.
Outstanding!
That plasma cutter is nice!
Nice when a plan comes together! And all your planning and prep work is what makes the plan come together. Very nice job!
Need cap or something to keep the water out. You probably already thought of that and just haven’t told us. A lot of work for a fence but should last you lifetime. It may or may not happened but think about how to replace some on the road side just in case there would be an accident and take out some pipes. Keep up the good work
👍👍👍 fencing!
Cool, I'm excited so I can't imagine how excited the both of you must be
Great Job. Really looking good....Continued Success. 👍
Always looking forward to your videos.
This fence looks amazing! Thank you for sharing!
For those of you that cannot weld in the field (not having access to a portable welder or dry conditions that could start a field fire) there is a product called Bullet Fence System brace kits that works with the oil field pipes. I don’t have a financial incentive just passing it along in case others want to use oil field pipes but don’t have access to a welder. I have always used wooden post for the corners and t-post (like you have used in the past). Looks great so far.
Great job 👏 thanks for the quality content. Take care.
Great job keep up the great work love your videos thank you
Fence line is looking GREAT
Once you cope your first pipe and get the correct shape to match the upright post. Use a file folder or piece of cardstock and roll it over the od of the pipe and trace inside to give you a line. Then remove the file folder and use scissors to cut the line. Then wrap and use welders chalk to lay out your cut. Then plasma torch along the chalk line.
I would suggest you raise the concrete to above the ground level. We have steel pipes for our back deck over our daylighted basement. One day I notices that the pipes had begun to rust thru at the bottom where the concrete was at ground level, the 2 posts that were on a concrete pad didn't rust. I had to have someone jack the deck up and put a cardboard form around the pipe and fill the form with concrete. No rust since.
They sell pipe templets so you do not have to waste a ton of grinding. Refer to farmer tyler ranch.
Yeah, Evan! I’ve been waiting for this video. I’m eager to see the fence go up. Your property is really taking shape. All your hard work is paying off. Congratulations!
Need to put a cap on top of those steel posts, if it feels up with water in the winter, that pipe can freeze and bust or split ...
Great job , Evan ! It looks good and will hold very well ! I LOVE YOU GUYS !!! 🥰🥰
Looks awesome, ton of hard work!
Good job guys
I would recommend a face shield for cutting to protect your face from sparks.
Nice job guys 👍🏻💯💚🌱🌞
Thats going be be a strong fence. Good job
Much better drilling now than last summer. Fence work looks great
one tiny lil thing you might want to do is cap the tops of the pipes so water can't get inside and freeze and bust your nice fence posts and concrete
Lovely operator you have there.😊
Your building motto seams to be " If your gonna be a bear be a grizzly" . That fence should out last Washington Monument.
Nice work
Good luck with 811. My driveway is 1/2 mile long and has 3 total houses on it. 811 told me they are not allowed to come any further than 18 ft off the main road. The second time they came out to mark where my electric gate was going, they marked in completely different locations from the first time. Funny thing is where both teams marked, they missed an actual gas line location by 7 ft. Not 7 inches, 7 ft. Luckly the cable installer located the area for me on his day off. Found everything in about 45 minutes. (Thanks, Cableman Greg). Anyway, keep up the good work Evan. Love the videos.
Thanks for sharing, have a great week!
Good idea to keep that twisted copper phone line intact from the road. It can still handle up to a Gb or more of data depending on distance to home. The older line you dug up was not twisted and so was not capable of high speeds.
I have a couple of tip to extend the life of the fence. It is important to cover the top of the pipe.
The easy and cheap way is to stuff a wad of newspaper or old cloth down the pipe so the top of the wad is about six to eight inches below the top of the pipe. Then, fill the top with redi mix concrete and make a cone of concrete so the water will roll off the top.
It is also important to go back and add a cone of contrate at the base so the water won't stand there and rust out the pipe.
Also, paint the pipe with a mitten and really slater it on thick.
Finally, except for corner posts that will have side stress that need to be used quickly, you can actually dump dry red-mix in the hole around the pipe and the moisture will absorb into the concrete and harden around the pipe.
Hello from Santa Fe, New Mexico the good thing you’re already starting and making it nice job
The correct way to brace a fence: Between the 1st and 2nd posts you put a horizontal brace; you also put a diagonal brace from the bottom of the 1st post to the underside of the horizontal post, where it attaches to the 2nd post; done.
That's what he is doing.
They have those template wraps on amazon to help perfect your fish mouth cut. Keep up the great work, both of you.
You have s great spread !
Great job Rebecca and Evan looks very very nice!
Thanks Guys
You did it great Evan, your fence lines look straight ! My dad and I put in steel pipe for our corner posts in concrete on our dairy farm pastures to keep posts from shifting or pulling up.when I was a teenager and we used metal T-posts along the fence line. You are right in that they should last your lifetime and won't pull out of the ground unless someone pushes them over or pulls them out of the ground. We used large diameter pipe in concrete for our gate posts to support the weight of the gates. Might be a good idea to paint the pipe (white or black) so they don't rust over time.
Looking good
I've seen several people just flatten the ends of the tube with a modified log splitter, seemed to be easier than trying to cope all those ends
If you aren't going to cap the vertical posts, then you will need to put a couple of weep holes near the very bottom of the posts for drainage inside the posts to help prevent rusting faster. The gravel at bottom was a good idea too!
Hello Evan Rebecca nice work. Just a suggestion to put caps on your posts because they with fill up with water. Have a good day.
excellent video as usual
Great job Evan
Looking good Evan and Rebecca. You did a good job with your saddle making with the pipes. Hopefully all will go well for you building out in the field too. Sure makes it easier with having two who can operate all the equipment around there. Rebecca has them down really well. Stay safe and keep up the great videos and the fun you have working together. Fred.
You should watch Farmer Tyler Ranch, he did a project like that last year, I think it would be helpful.
Awesome as Always 😅
When you weld make small circles about the size of a #2 pencil and every circle after overlap the previous by 1/2 the next circle.
You should put marking stones outside the fence right above the waterline. In the future it would be very easy to find were the pipe runs.
Good job you two. 😎
