I don't think I have ever seen such a clean work area!
I’ve been saying the same thing to Glen for a few years now. It’s like a blacksmiths hospital Operating Room.
@@gaz0463 LOL it is CRAZY! I don't know how he gets any work finished between the cleaning.
Yes, others have also told me this. I'm usually neat but I have to be extra organized given my small work space. Thanks.
Your comment really cracked me up! Good stuff.
One thing I dislike is having to clean up after each day or forging, especially when I'm tired, but it's got to get done. But I get a little forging done between cleanings! Thanks.
Relaxes me to see you work Glen.....your organization and flow of work is very satisfying to the soul of blacksmithing. You make it look so easy..the sign of a true craftsman..Thanks for sharing !....did I mention flawless style? A man in his office chair working at his desk molding and forming.....I need this setup....someday.
Very, very nice comment. It may look easy at times, but it's always a challenge for me. Thanks for taking the time to write this - makes me feel good. Now I need to get back to my office chair!
I am sincere to.....I would like to see more tradesmanship in todays education of our young people....we dont want this type of craftsmanship to be lost and forgotten to the ages.....I would hope some of your viewers are younger aspiring and are enjoying your skills......I am now relearning them myself...... "as the Phoenix Rises above the flames.....is even more beuatiful than before" ! :)
You always make it look so easy and I know that’s much more difficult to do than it looks. Especially to make it look that neat.
There's always some challenge with blacksmithing. I think that's what keeps it interesting. Thanks.
I'm partial to old style hardware, but I am also a tough constructive critic. I have no complaints. Once again Glen, working on the fly suits your obvious skill set. Much satisfaction is gained. Thanks for sharing, learning with you.
I really appreciate your overly generous comment. I've got a long way to go with my skills. Thanks for sure.
Very nice and elegant piece. Great job as usual Glen
Much appreciated.
Ok Glen, you can't just leave us hanging like this!!! I need so see the rest so I can make one for my Smith shed... Lol great video though!!
Didn't mean to leave you guys hanging. But I still need to find a door to use this on! Or maybe I can just mock up a door and door jamb... Thanks.
Awesome, looking forward to part 2.
Me too - just need to find a door! Thanks.
Good one these rustic type of latches look so nice, well done Glen.
I outfitted my old house in the US with lots of hardware like this. Nothing was perfect but it really gave it a good vibe. Thanks.
Love this
I remember studying the local curves while designing the fireplace tool set my grade 9 math teacher had requested way back in 76. One of the benefits I loved going to a small town school, you could leave with plenty of useful memories in exchange for a little extra work.
I see a very pleasing organic connection to the shape you coaxed it into becoming and I guess you could say, worth mentioning. Peace.
Exelant video as always.. I really like how you built this.. Nice and easy.. I think you really showed how to make a latch like this very nicely.. Well done Glen.... Martin
If it looks easy for me, then I've got you guys fooled! Good to see you in the comment section. Thanks.
I am impressed by the absence of tentative or unnecessary hammer strikes. There is thought before each action you take. In contrast, I feel the need to hit something while I am deciding what to do next.
I know exactly what you mean, previously having the habit of striking without carefully observing. But I built up the better habit of tapping my anvil gently with my hammer between strikes, mainly when I need an extra second or two to decide. The tapping helps maintain a rhythm without unnecessarily striking the workpiece. Thanks for watching.
Really nice work. I want to get to the shop and attempt a great majority of your projects and this one is no exception.
From what I've seen, your work is top notch. Thanks.
Man you do amazing work, wish I could forge as good as you!
Thanks for your kind words. Appreciate it.
nice work. Good use of tools . Hook looks beautiful
Much appreciated. I often only start with a general idea for projects like this and just try to go with the flow. Some things work out, some not so much.
I absolutely love the latch and you did a wonderful job forging it. The question I have is, wouldn't instead of balancing it, having it slightly back heavy, help it to fall into the keeper on the other side of the door easier? I feel like maybe it would float in the door with it perfectly balanced.
В инструмент можно влюбиться с первого взгляда, глаз не оторвать от того, в каком порядке он содержится! 👏👍
Однозначно лайк + подписка, браво !!!
Thanks Glen, great tutorial!
Glad you like it. Thanks for watching.
great project Glen thanks again for sharing
It's my pleasure. Glad you like this and I appreciate the support.
Came out nice, Glen.
I'm fairly pleased with this. Once I complete the hardware and mount it (whenever I find a door!), I'll know how well it works. Thanks.
Great video, I hope to make one of those. I received the bent knee tongs and top tools last week. Very nice. Will put them to use soon. Thanks.....Dave
Glad you like this, that you received your tools and are thus far pleased with them. I hope they suit you in use. Just let me know if you have any questions and good luck with your blacksmithing. And thanks for watching...
Nice
Enjoyed and gave a Thumbs Up
Glad you enjoyed and good luck in your own work.
Good job
Lovin this episode
Very glad you like this. I'll try my best to make similar videos. Thanks.
I made one not to long ago, it was different style I like the one you made think I may give it a try. Good video as always hammer on.
The great thing about blacksmithing is there's always a few ways to go about making any certain item. Thanks.
Very nice. I really appreciate you approach to blacksmithing and your techniques. Keep 'em coming. I'd love to see the other side made so I can make one as well. If it has to wait a while I understand.
I'll do my best to make a video of making the remaining hardware. Just need to find a door! Thanks for your continuing support, I appreciate it.
Glen GS Tongs I'd gladly offer my entrance door so you could put that fine work of art on it. Best regards from Mexico.
hi glen nice latch , you could also sandwich the pivot between the door and the latch . thumbs up .
That's an interesting idea - might test my woodworking skills to the limit. Thanks for the thumbs (latch) up!
Magic
I am very curious as to the type of anvil you are using. The large face that you seem to be using most of the time seems to be moving separately from the rest of the anvil. Does it have some kind of isolation. - Curious
Awesome I've been waiting for a vid on this
Glad this can be of any help. Thanks for watching.
If your slot handle was in line with the work it might help with centering..
Nice project
Very nice
Much appreciated.
I’m from Suffolk and I have these latches on my doors
Really enjoyed that! Can you feel the heat from your forge on your back? Thanks, Jerry
Happy 2020 👍🏻🇪🇨
Mmmmmm i dont tink so 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Кует,красиво кузнец.!👍👍👍
Never seen one of these made before, next just gotta find that door
Me too - I've also got to find a door for this! Thanks for watching.
I noticed in the beginning when you first put your bar in the guillotine you rotated it after a few wax is that just to even out the work or is there more energy/work going in the top die of the guillotine? Great video
Good observation. My main reason is to even things out. I have a tendency to hold workpieces tilted low and so I like to do this "from both sides" technique. Glad you like this one. Thanks.
Great job. All the things you do is superb
I’d like to ask you a question about your anvils. What kind of steel are they made?
My small block style anvils are all made from 4145 steel. I've found this to be very suitable. Seems to further harden with use (work harden). Thanks.
👍👍👍👍👍👍
👍👍
Thanks for watching.
Correct usage of tools defines aesthetics
Nice handle, With all your great anviils why not a drill press.
Thanks
How easy (or difficult) is it to find suitable steel for your projects? Can you buy it locally or do you have to order it? If you order is it from a local supplier or is it online? Thanks for posting your projects.
Here where i live in Taiwan, it's very easy to get the steel I need. There are a few local suppliers and if they don;t have what you want, they can get it. They cut everything to size for free and have no problem with small purchase amounts. Thanks for watching.
👍🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Ke funzione a?
Cor blast boy, thass a right smart latch but thass bigger than my cottage door! Suffolk latches are small and cheap while Norfolk latches use more metal with a back plate. Thass right instructive to see yew do it tho’.
Это ,ручка на калитку с защелкой видать..
Interesting, but biased. I read the full article. The 500 year cycle is only observed in China's Monglian autonomous region. It is effected nt el nino. The article stated the cooling cycle in that area may, MAY, have a moderating effect on glibal warming. Nowhere does it say the cooling cycle will cause global cooling. The article, instead, said we should avoid complacency and the belief that we can control climate change. May I suggest you stoo cherry picking data to prove your preconceived ideas. This helps nobody.
