Howdy from a fellow old hippy/freak. I'm 63 now, and like you, I'm trying my best to be thankful for the life I have, my wife, kids, and grand kids. The world can sure get you down if you let it. I'm determined to not let the current state of this country and the world take me on a bummer trip. My first encounter with hippies was in 1967 when my family was visiting Washington DC. We went out one evening to Georgetown because my father thought it'd be fun to see the hippies who hung around there. My father was a career military man about to go back to Vietnam for his second tour. He made fun of them, but I couldn't understand why. Anyhow, as I go older, I was drawn to the ideals the hippies espoused. As the Beatles said "All you need is love", how true. Anyhow, I'm glad I found your channel and have subscribed. Last thing, I imagine you're still into music. I don't know if you have heard of Porcupine Tree, but they put out some excellent psychedelic and progressive rock music, and they are at the top of my favorites list. Peace.
What an awesome comment brother! This video was the first one under my new channel name. I had been really negative and a "doomer" before, but something just snapped. Maybe it was the realization that all I was doing was putting out negative energy. For my own mental health I needed to reassess where I was at. The world can indeed be a horrible place, but it can also be beautiful and focusing on the negative is counter productive. I want to put out a message of peace and love. It's the only way to fight the evil. Pointing out all the terrible things only gives them more power. I haven't listened to Porcupine Tree, but I'll definitely search for them. They sound great. Be well my friend and keep being far out and groovy. Oh, and thanks for the sub, I want to turn this channel into a place for hippie's old and young. Peace.
@@VEGTheAgingHippie As for Porcupine Tree, their music from the 1990s-2000s is excellent. May I suggest "Waiting Phase 1", "Trains", "Arriving Somewhere, But Not Here", "Pure Narcotic", and ".3" (dot 3), and "Anesthetize". The band was best (in my opinion) about 10 to 20 years ago. Steven Wilson (the band's founder, and a real musical genius) recently reformed the band, and remade a lot of their older songs with new members. I personally like their older recordings. Steven Wilson also did some solo albums that were very good. I really think you'll like their music judging by the playlists on your channel. Peace and love.
Hey Chris! I'm 79 and was living in Haight Ashbury when the Thelan brothers opened their shop. Then met Leary and Alpert with an endless supply of Owley's fine liquid. The word "hippie" was coined in a San Francisco State magazine (where the evolution really began) and was picked up by columnist Herb Caen, who made it universal. I could go on and on, but suffice to say, once a hippie, always one. Good move buddy!! 🐒😎
What an honor to have an original Hippie here on my little channel. I can't tell you how much the movement influenced me even though I was a little too young in the 60s. I was crestfallen as a teenager when disco started and hippies began disappearing. The stories you could tell brother. I'm sure I could listen to you for hours. Peace & Love.
WOW, I was too young for all that, but LOVED the music from that period & was in a Dead cover band. SO Grateful for those times, even if I was just 3 or 4... HF. ❤🎉
I was also born too late for the hippie movement, but I was keen on the idea of peace and love. I used to gravitate to that philosophy and those who agreed with it. It just seems like as the 80s and 90s went on those voices got quieter and quieter until finally after 9/11 they seemed to disappear altogether. Love seemed to be replaced by fear, which then lead to hate. I also noticed that this doom zeitgeist, if you will, seemed to start around the Y2K issue, which I was a part of remediating in 1999, and it has been there ever since. I, too, have decided to take a step back and try to find positivity in this messy global society that we live in. I'm glad I'm not the only one. I hope someday others will join us and world will realize that we live as one.
My mental health depends on me forsaking all the doom and gloom. It's not sticking my head up my ass and pretending everything is fine. It's more the realization that an attitude like that just makes people give up and never try to make things better.
The hippie movement was co-opted, if not staged. Here in the northeast it went from back-to-the land and using natural fibers to sex, drugs and rock and roll. The ecological anti-plastic and chemicals movement has become electric everything and fear of climate change. If we ever want a truly GOOD movement we have to resist what's pushed on us by the media and the globalist NGOs.
We grew up with similar experience. Hippies evolved into heads and dispersed from there. Great graphics & philosophy. Subscribed. Peace love and freedom.
Thanks my friend. We've got to find a way to end all the hate and division in today's society. Life should be beautiful, not filled with ugliness and rage.
We all need to have a reason to go on living, if for no other reason than to see how the story ends. I needed to stop being so focused on all the horrible things and concentrate on the things that make life beautiful. Love, beauty, nature and peace. Hope this year will be amazing for you.
I remember my mother's comment to me at age 12, when we went to check out a free concert in Piedmont Park in Atlanta in 1972 by these guys out of Macon called the Allman Brothers: "What, you want to look like THAT???
It’s a good balance. I love your channel, Sandy, because you pull the studies and reports and break them down for the audience. And although it is bad news, it’s news we need to hear. And your smile and laughter makes that news so much easier to swallow.
I'm tired of living in dread of what's coming and instead focusing on the now. I'm seeing colors more brightly, after getting my eyes fixed. It's still, in spite of all the horrible things happening on our planet, a beautiful world.
My friend, I am so happy to see this. Thank you so much for the kind words. It means a lot to me to know I was able to have some kind of positive impact. The world can be a dark place. We've seen that darkness first hand. But the choice is ours on whether we succumb to it, or fight back and be a source of light. Can't wait to see more of this new direction 🙌

Yep, focusing on the disasters or potential disasters is contradictory to what i see around me. Trees, bushes, flocks of birds, deer munching. It's not picture post card but it's really good. I was born in 1958 and the Hippies were gone by the time I was 15. I did latch on to Melanie Safka who was still putting out hits like 'Brand New Key' and appeared on the Sonny & Cher show. She was an original 'Flower Child'. Saw her perform live at the Lone Star Cafe in NYC some years later. I do remember at the Catholic school I went to around 1969 or 1970 we did a folk guitar Mass in the Gym and there were peace signs and tie-dye shirts and other psychedelic art on the walls.
I was born a year earlier than you. Grew up at the tail end of the hippy thing. I remember Melanie. Lay down (candles in the wind) was a big hit. She was cute as a button too. I also was raised Catholic unfortunately. Even the nuns around 1970 were dressing more normal. I miss that era.
Well Karen I'm here to fulfill your hearts desire. Just waiting for the next vid to upload. By the time you read this, another hip and groovy show will be tubular!
Hey man! You just gave me another major flashback eh! We used to load up the 57 Chevy wagon and go fishing in lovely cottage country Ontario. So cool bro!✌️
My dad always had Ramblers and they were distinctly uncool. But I do remember that after they changed the name to AMC, they actually had a couple of cool cars and I desperately wanted a Javelin or AMX. The 57 Chevy is from the same year that I was born. Ah memories of a simpler time.
Sounds like a good way to connect with nature. I wish that everyone could find a way to leave all the hostility behind and mellow out. Too much war and hate because they don't realize that we actually injure ourselves when we injure another. I just want to get back to that peace and love thing.
The video is starting to do really well. I'm thrilled. Maybe it's true that the hippies were right all along. Check out the video I just posted. I'm so happy you like the new direction Zelda. Peace.

I'm pleased, but less than excited. My experience on YT suggests that it's just an anomaly and that it may be another 10 years before it happens again. Hippie's are coming back big time in 2024.
You are too young to be a hippy. If 20 in 1974 you'd be 70 now 😞The post hippy generation likes to be identified with the tiny number that actually lived like hippies. I was very briefly a New Age Hippy in Britain. Be grateful? Be happy? Intrinsically unavailable things to many lol Can you link the shout out channels in comments or the description? Have a brilliant 2024!
I was born a hippy. I just didn't know it. In 74, I was 16 and already quite familiar with the psychedelic compounds that gave me a free ride into hippydom. I also had shoulder length hair and wore groovy clothing long after it was fashionable. I had hippy records, a hippy girlfriend and burned incense to mask some of the more pungent odours that emanated from my bedroom. Just search YT for One-More-Light and Lidet Birhanu. If you still can't find them, I'll get off my arse and give you the links. Just tell them a delusional old hippy sent you.
So good to see you back again, this time on a new channel. Looks like you're off to a brilliant start. Don't know what you call you now, though. "Aging Hippie?"
Just call me Chris. Thanks for your kind comment. My goal is to restart the hippy movement in 2024. Hey, I might as well dream big if I'm going to dream. Take care brother.
Chris it is, thanks! Your goal is worthy, I'm on the same boat as you! The 60s movement gave me everything worth knowing, expanded my world immensely, and is why I majored in anthropology and world religions.

Brother! Man, I cannot tell you how happy I am to see you more positive! Gratitude is where it’s at. Despite all of the bloodshed, suffering, climate change, civilization collapse, etc how wonderful it is to be alive at this time, too! How lucky we are to witness all of it. The pain, the love, the music, the tears. Don’t get me wrong, I love the Veg channel but I’m going to dig this much much more. Love and peace, Brother. Love you so much!
Aww Kristen, you're such a sweetie. I can't keep spending so much time watching all the pain and suffering without also seeing the sublime beauty in our world. Being a doomer is just too hard to do full time.
I'm 63, and still have long hair. I was disappointed in a lot of the so called hippies who went disco, then turned into the posession wanting. Liberal, yuppies, in the late 70s and 80s. Sold out. Bigtime. Leaving us born in 60, to continue the ideals of the culture, love, Jesus, peace, pot, Microdot.
Everything turned to shit by the 80s. You are a few years younger than me, so I'm impressed that you held on to the hippy culture. Stay far out and groovy brother!
I love the new channel name! Thank you for sharing about depression I deal with it as well as you know I have struggled with mental illness since birth. I understand why it's bad for mental health to be a doomer, I know that the Climate Crisis (among other things) is only going to get worse but there's also nothing I can do about it either. I do my best to avoid the negative in my day to day life and that includes spending as little time as possible in my confined apt & my depressing dead town. I go where there is life and happy people and spend as much time there instead, and on those rare days that are dry with sunshine, out in the Pines. I definitely am too young to even remember the Hippie movement I sure wish I could have experienced it. It would certainly be a better World if we had more Hippies and less snobby rich people. Yeah it all changed in the 80s and you can tell in the music too. A lot of my favorite people were from the 70s, John Denver, Jim Croce, Dan Fogelberg, The Carpenters, and so many others along with the Philly Soul sound. The best songs ever written were mainly from before 1980. Interesting you mention Cape Cod especially Provincetown because there are beautiful Pine Barrens there I'm sure you remember them. I hope 2024 is a better year for all of us and I am going to keep fighting even harder to find better surroundings. We all deserve to have what we need in life, rich or poor, disabled or not, etc.
Nobody understands depression unless you've lived it brother. You seem to be getting a handle on it though. I know you are dealing with a crappy apartment, but look at it this way, at least you're not homeless or fleeing war. I'm confident that something better is coming your way. It's bound to happen if you keep trying. Man I wish you could see how many pines there are in North Ontario. There's a lookout tower in Eliot Lake where they go on as far as the eye can see. It's my favorite place to go in summer. All the best in 24 John.
I have nothing against Jesus, it's Christians I have a problem with. If everyone actually lived by Jesus teachings, the world would be a much better place.
@@VEGTheAgingHippie I feel the same way. There are many good Christians out there, but so many of them seem to miss the message he gave, and use the bible to justify their hate and bigotry. I think every person who proclaims that they are Christian and follow Jesus should take note of Matthew 25: 31-46, and ask themselves if they are truly his followers, or just posers. I am a nonbeliever myself, but can appreciate his admonitions to take care of and love each other.
@@docf3605 You don't have to be a Christian to appreciate and follow the teachings of Jesus. Just saying you're a Christian doesn't mean much because anyone can say it, but still live their lives hating and oppressing others. "You will know them by their fruits."
@@huffdaddy3845 I never said anyone had to be a Christian. Those that follow the teachings of Christ are by definition a Christian. People who do not follow the teachings of Jesus are not Christian, even if they claim to be.

Good to see you.
Well good to be here too thanks. Love your avatar.
Peace For U in 2024!
Peace right back at you Ken. One day perhaps all men and women will live as sisters and brothers. I can dream can't I
You certainly can!!! And I shall dream with you for a world filled with only Peace & Love!!!!@@VEGTheAgingHippie
Very inspiring, Chris! ☮, ❤ & 🎶/ 🌎
Inspiring? What are you inspired to do? I take no responsibility.
@@VEGTheAgingHippie Love Mon, Love!
Trippy, man!
It's all a groovy happening bro!
2200 views on your first video??? Damn, Brother, rock on in 2024! Obviously, the hippies still reign.
Be happy? Intrinsically unavailable things to many lol
Can you link the shout out channels in comments or the description?
Have a brilliant 2024!
Everyone is born a Hippie, most just get trained out of it. Cheers Huples!
Love the new voice of positivity.
I'm keeping my demons at bay brother.
Nice positive vibe on the new show, my man! Congrats 😊
Gracias John. I'm just tired of being negative. It's terrible for my mental health. Happy New Year brother.
Very rare to find a real hippie now.
It is rare, but hope springs eternal that there will be a hippy revival one day. Everyone would be in a better space psychologically. Peace brother!
Im so happy to hear you experiencing positive changes in your life and making that shift for the new year!! And thank you so much for the shoutout I so appreciate you 🫶🏾 you pronounced my name right btw 😂😎
Also funny because I didn’t major in psychology, but I did major in English education and taught middle school for a couple years ☺️
Oh interesting, because my wife is an English major.
I guess teaching middle school made you a bit of a psychologist. All the best my dear sister.

You'll always be the veg to me
The Veg is hiding in here, just looking for a chance to get out!
Every waking moment harshes my vibe but groovy moments and people are still present if one just mellows the negative input man
A mellow is a terrible thing to harsh.
@@VEGTheAgingHippie Right on
Please dump the background music, it makes it really hard to listen to.
I've turned it way down since I made this video. Thanks for the tip.
Hey veg, try going carnivore, cured my depression and anxiety and I lost 24 lbs.
Hey veg, try going whole food vegan. Cured my depression and anxiety and I lost 24 lbs. Also, i didn't add to the suffering in the world.
I don't believe you.
I don't eat meat or anything with a face.
@@VEGTheAgingHippie I’m sorry about that. Meat is what we evolved with, it’s the proper human diet.
Educate yourself search:

Receive Jesus and you won't be depressed! Scoff and mock all you want, it's true!
I have nothing against Jesus, it's Christians I have a problem with. If everyone actually lived by Jesus teachings, the world would be a much better place.
@@VEGTheAgingHippieStrange thing to say considering you do not follow the teachings of Jesus. No judgement. It's just strange logically speaking.
