Y’all are definitely one of my favorites because you are REAL and do things that are feasible for us regular yard people, not going and purchasing $1,000 worth of plants on a regular basis. When I purchase a tree or even a bush, I need it to be successful, because I don’t have an unlimited budget. I have learned many, many important ways from you to approach gardening, primo tip..improve your soul. Thank you for being regular folks!
"Indiscriminate Annual Chopping with Jim Putnam" 8:36 Oh, there's a path 😮 10:48 look another path 😆 You could plop a pumpkin to the left of the bench celosia for a cute vignette. 🧡❤️ This is a GREAT video for new gardeners to see, just how resilient your landscape can be when it is healthy from the soil up. 🌿 (And encouraging me to get out there in my garden!)
I do find that so fascinating about weeds, they always seem to mask themselves and look very similar to the plant it's next to. And so you don't see it sometimes.
I love a full garden. My son asked me to plant an area in his yard but guess we have different tastes. He now tells me he'd like more space between plants next year. More weeding is coming my way. 🥰
Living in the dry west, we don’t get all that green without supplemental water, even if we mulch. I get a little jealous when I see all that sprawling growth
I must admit how envious I am of your lush garden. Temperature today was 98 and it has rained four times the since early May in my area. Constant watering keeps my garden and trees alive, but definitely not much growth or vigor.
That salvia looks stunning! Recently I purchased a big bag of Soil3 compost humus, and have applied some to a garden bed where I will be planting some new daffodils in the coming weeks. I’m very excited to see how this compost will improve my garden soil.
Garden looks great! I enjoy watching other people work in their gardens - the results are immediately satisfying. Already spent a couple hours weeding and planting in my own garden early this morning, just a few hours west of you. Happy weekend!
Fun to see all the happy plants. Advice on keeping them off your more permanent plantings is one of the best things for the health of your garden. You are always doing good.
Being a new gardener I was winching every time you went at those plants with the pruners. Then I have to remind myself that you know what you’re doing 😂
Hi Jim. I have a Korean Miss Kim lilac in a container & when it’s hot they require watering daily or else its leaf will curl & turn brown. That’s probably what happened to yours… lack of watering. I’m sure it’ll bounce right back from the hard pruning. Lilacs are hard to kill.
Question about the chop and drop method… this time of year when we’re getting more rain and cooler nights, is leaving cut off plant material under shrubs inviting slugs/pests to come into our gardens more than if that material was cleaned up and composted elsewhere?
I was wondering if I should have chopped back my now 4 ft tall Salvias and yes I guess I should have. Prob too late now 8a MS. Was that striking orangish plant on last shot a Candy Corn Spirea? Whatever it is I need that! Thanks again Jim and Steph.
I'm on the hunt for skyscraper salvia, thank you for sharing all those colors! How early and where might I be able to order it? (I'm in Greensboro, NC, Zone 8a). Thank you for sharing so much about what you grow!
Jim….do you have the Joro spider issue? They are EVERYWHERE in my yard and almost need my bee suit on the avoid walking through the webs trying to garden! 😮
I don’t know how we got Mexican Cucumbers in our garden but we have been battling it for years. Not sure why you planted one but good luck getting rid of it. It is horrible. The fruit are cute, like tiny watermelons.
Hi Jim, I had a large maple tree taken down due to Sapstreak. Is it safe to use those arborist chips? Or, would I be introducing the disease back to my yard? What is the likelihood of any mulch harboring disease?
You went on vacation for six weeks and didn’t arrange somebody to water your plants? I’m not familiar with any plant that can go six weeks without water….even succulents can’t go six weeks.

I so agree. I just can't relate to gardeners that can purchase 20 - 30 of anything to fill in for the fall.

Glad I found a local person to help me start my planting... makes it easier. Great videos I've seen so far!
I do find that so fascinating about weeds, they always seem to mask themselves and look very similar to the plant it's next to. And so you don't see it sometimes.
Thanks for the tip about cutting back lush annuals to make room for my perennials. I’ll be out in the garden today!

Good morning Jim and Stephanie. 1st off I would like to thank you once again for taking the time to do the live chat, I LOVED IT!! 😍

It's a blessing and a curse😂
Love every single video you and Stephanie make🌳Thank you !!!
If you have time on your Dallas trip, you would love Metro Maples in Fort Worth! Great people and a beautiful place.

I love hearing your train of thought and your reasoning behind what you are doing. It’s very helpful. Thank you! I learn so much from your channel!
I chop and drop and put it all under the plants and I've noticed a big difference in my plants since I started doing that
Love those salvias and seeing Holly sniffing around!

You won't be disappointed!
Thank you Jim and Stephany. 🌺💚🙃

Gaw DAYUM that coleus is bright!!! Thanks Jim and Steph! Great motivation to get my own jungle under control
Hello 🙏 👋 🌻 🌻 🌻.

I didn't really think about plants rubbing up against my evergreens. I'll get to work right away!
A painted white fence would look stunning it your garden
Good morning!

Oops..SOIL..but improving the soul don’t hurt, either!
I’d venture to say that by improving your soil that your soul will also be improved!!!

🙋🏽♀️MY FAVORITE ‼️🪴🌳🌸
Thanks for a great ideas.
Thanks for the tips!
My garden is out of control and I’ve been home for the last six weeks. 😂🌸🐝

Got ours at Big Bloomers in Sanford
Jim, the smaller branches & woodies stems of the flowers you cut, do you mulch them as they are, or do you use a chipper to shred them first?
Q: What is the plant to your left at 19:40 with the pink and yellow leaves?
I forgot if you said you grew your Salgoon series from seed or plugs.
Jim’s biomass production of clown college annual color😂 that’s a lot of plant material

I can see that! Ugh
And do you regularly water? Atlanta is in a drought and I’ve given up

What monitoring system do you gave for your outside property? Thx❤
He said he has cameras, and his neighbors are coming over frequently, and can see comings and goings.
Jim, Steph,
Pokeweed--yuck!!! 😝

It rains here frequently.
When you get so much rain you can barrel it, you don't think twice about how they will get watered
