Kev, the running stuff is pretty impressive on what the lens can do and your style but the wedding stuff, damn, not only really fine composition on every shot but exquisite moments. Cheers buddy, great work.
Great video to see that the 56mm mk2 is not exclusively for strictly portait shoots :) I have it for now and I’m comparing it to the sigma 56mm, I’m on the fence about which one to keep. The sigma is lighter smaller and more silencious AF, but the aperture ring and the « something special » of the Fuji are good points for the latter.
I hear a lot of complaints on the internet about the autofocus of this lens, but if it were slow it would be impossible to capture the running photos... unless you've taken thousands of them and most of them are out of focus haha...
Do you feel that the jump in AF speed between this and the original 56mm comes more from the lens itself or from pairing it with the X-H2? I typically use the original 56mm along with my X-Pro3 at weddings and I still don't fully trust the C-AF with the 56mm. Typically for the wedding aisle walking shots and such I'll opt for my 35mm f2 instead. I strongly prefer the look of the 56mm over the 35mm, but the C-AF has let me down one too many times.
I used the original 56 with my X-Pro3 and X-Pro2 for a long time. I didn't really struggle with it (remember, if you are using AF-C, ALWAYS set priority for AF-C to release, not focus). However, yes, I can easily notice faster acquisition with the new lens.
Yup, I agree. But it's way too big and heavy for what I need it for..... and extremely rare to need f1. But I agree - the 50mm F1, especially for portraits, is wonderful.
Hi Kevin! I have just received the new XF56mm F1.2 R WR and it seems to me that it has an issue: I use it on X-E4 and it is very noisy and focus hunting constantly regardless of settings. When I press play to review photos it also makes a weird noise (as the focus inside moves) - is it the same with your copy? I have previously used XF56mm F1.2 R and I don't remember it having this focus noise. Could you advise me whether this is normal and what is your experience with the new lens? Is it possible I have a bad copy? Thanks in advance!
@@kevin_mullins I made sure it is switched off. By the way I also got a comment from another user experiencing the same issue on XE-4 - it seems it could be compatibility issue with the body? I will likely return the lens unfortunately. Anyway - thanks for your comment!
Hey Kevin, which Fujifilm lens would you pair with the 56mm, if you were shooting a wedding with two cameras? I often shoot with the 56mm, but feel that the 16mm is a bit too wide at times. My 23mm is broken, but im not sure I love the focal length either...
Dude loving your images ❤!!! Quick question… I just got my 56 WR today and it is quite a bit noisier than I anticipated and I also get some focus pulsing when switching subjects. Does your copy do this? Thanks a ton ❤
Lovely images, but a shame that you shoot only in B&W. For those of us who don't, it doesn't give us a peek into the colour rendering, clarity and contrast - not only of the new lens but the new X-H2!
Not sure what you mean. There are more colour images in this video than black and white? Also, these are not shot on the X-H2 as I don't own that camera.
Asking as an intermediate hobbyist, (dumb question coming up): 1. Assuming shutter speed was set to Auto, right? 2. AFC? If you take the time to answer I’ll be amazed, but thank you either way. You inspire me to get better 🙏
For the running shots, yes, AF-C and shutter speed controlled by Auto ISO to a certain extent. I had the camera set to Mechanical + Electronic shutter so only up to 15FPS. The XH-2S can go up to 40 FPS if you need it.
@@kevin_mullins i have it and it's great but I don't often need anymore to shoot from far away so, I consider switching to the new 56 especially if it's faster than the older one :) or.. I'll have both lol
X-H2S. I was only shooting at 15 FPS and quick bursts, maybe 3 or 4 frames. In almost every burst I shot I got the at least one sharp frame. I was shooting the race for four hours in total.
So Nice, Thanks a lot Kevin :-)
My pleasure!

Wow! I never thought I’d see a 56 1.2 used effectively as a sports lens. Wonderful images. 👏
Many Thanks!

I've not tried the Sigma lenses so can't compare but the Fuji 56 certainly has a charm about it.
Did you shoot in burst? Sorry I’m new.

No issues with AF of the lens for me. :-)

Looks like a really nice lens but for me it just doesn’t match the rendering you get from the 50mm f1. That lens produces magic.

for an xf-56mm, that's some really good consistency at f/1.2
Thank you.

No, I don't have that issue. Are you sure you haven't got pre-focus switched on in the camera?

Those are some beautiful images Kevin and they are tack sharp. Impressive.
Thank you.
Great shots Kev. For the X-H2 running shots, was that using eye detect? Did well if so, at 1.2!
No Eye Detection. Single point. It even surprised me! :-)
@@kevin_mullins wow, so just bog standard single point with af-c. Looking forward to test mine at the weekend.
@@jcpayne Yup 🙂
It's soooo good at 1.2. I can shoot weddings wide open now with confidence.

Hi there. I shoot exclusively with the 18mm and the 56mm these days. Perfect for me.
which one would you prefer if you would pick just one lens for travel XF18mmF1.4 R LM WR or XF56mmF1.2 R WR? I will be using it with XT-5 Thanks.
For travel, 18mm definately.
I’ve used your Fuji film X100 S book snapshots to great shots which is fabulous. Is there a similar version of a publication by yourself of the Xt4?
Not that I'm aware of sadly :-(
Dude loving your images ❤!!!
Quick question… I just got my 56 WR today and it is quite a bit noisier than I anticipated and I also get some focus pulsing when switching subjects. Does your copy do this? Thanks a ton ❤
Not really. You can hear a slight whirr - but really not much. It doesn't have a linear motor so should be pretty quiet.
Lovely images, but a shame that you shoot only in B&W. For those of us who don't, it doesn't give us a peek into the colour rendering, clarity and contrast - not only of the new lens but the new X-H2!

Quality as was the trip to Tokyo, there is an XT5 in the order box.
Thanks Ian.
Your Photos are so beautiful 🙂Thanks for sharing with us.
My pleasure 😊
@4:07 One can only look at this photo and smile! Very nice set. Do you think you'll be keeping the good ol' 56 original?
Thank you. Yes, I'll keep it for sentimental reasons (also, it's very bashed about so I don't think I can sell it :-0)
As always, your black and white images are unique on its own. Well done, Kevin!
Thanks so much.
Yeah, Fujifilm should be paying you. Best review of this lens to date.
I wish! :-)
Spectacular! Congratulations and thanks for sharing! Cheers
Thank you too!

Stunning images ! Which color preset (in your preset pack) did you use for the wedding photographs? Thanks a lot
Thanks. I can't remember off the top of my head but probably started with the Astia profile.
@@kevin_mullins Thanks Kevin I'll check that !
Thanks
Thank you so much, Derek. Much appreciated.
You've got the wrong lens on the thumbnail!!!

thanks for this sales Kevin! Do you also use the 90mm f2?
Thanks, Grégory. No, I haven't purchased the 90mm I'm afraid.

The camera used for the run was the XH2-S or the XT4?
What was the in focus hit rate with this during the race?
X-H2S. I was only shooting at 15 FPS and quick bursts, maybe 3 or 4 frames. In almost every burst I shot I got the at least one sharp frame. I was shooting the race for four hours in total.
@@kevin_mullins Ok so a solid 20% in focus at 15fps. It's not so much.
Thanks for your answer.
IMHO the new #1 Fuji Lens.
I agree.
Great shots! I have the old APD lens.
Nice!
Nice and clean, great 56mm
Sure is!
what camera was used
X-Pro3 and X-T4
Thanks so much Kevin
No problem.
Amazing work
Thanks a lot 😊
Nice images 👍 are these images straight unedited jpegs?
No, these edited with my presets 😄
@@kevin_mullins do you think theres a big difference in image quality using the new 40 megapixel sensor from the 26 megapixel sensor?
I haven't used the new X-H2 so don't know. I doubt I'll get an X-H2 and will wait and hope that the same sensoe comes to the X-Pro.
Beautiful.
Thank you!
XH2?
Guessing XH2s, due to ISO 160 On low end and high shutter speeds.
X-H2S and X-T4 (both shoot at 160). I forgot to add the camera to the EXIF (sorry).
